Do religious guys masturbate? someone told me theyre not allowed to?~?

i heard in religions like christianity, islam and judaism, boys are not allowed to masturbate according to the respective bible, is that true? how do you survive without masturbating? I'm sure most modern guys break the rules, no one is perfect in religion, but what about the really religious guys, like orthodox? how do they survive?

  • I found this:

The Bible never explicitly mentions masturbation or states whether or not masturbation is a sin. The Scripture most frequently pointed to in regards to masturbation is the story of Onan in Genesis 38:9-10. Some interpret this passage as saying that “spilling your seed” on the ground is a sin. However, that is not precisely what the passage is saying. God condemned Onan, not for “spilling his seed,” but because Onan refused to fulfill his duty to provide an heir for his brother. The passage is not about masturbation, but rather about fulfilling a family duty. A second Scripture passage sometimes pointed to as evidence for masturbation being a sin is Matthew 5:27-30. Jesus speaks against having lustful thoughts and then says “if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.” While there are parallels between this passage and masturbation, it is highly unlikely that masturbation was what Jesus was alluding to.

Clear: religious people may condemn it, the Bible does not speak about it.

  • If he's lucky, everybody pretends he isn't doing it, and life proceeds normally.

If he's unlucky, they guilt-trip him, punsh him, threaten him with hell, and damage his sexual development however they can. He'll grow up sexually dysfunctional, with a personality scar or two.

Luckily, these communites REALLY repress female sexuality, so nobody knows the raw deal they're getting unless they have regular contact outside the community.

P.S.: It's part of why people in conservative religious communites tend to marry very young.

P.P.S.: It's also part of why such communities tend to isolate themselves, so that the barbarians don't spoil the men and plunder the women.

  • Yes, that's what's SUPPOSED to happen, but if you think that all of them actually abide by that rule, you'd have to be living under a rock. Sorry, but I'm not going to sugar-coat it for you, that's just me. There's nothing perfect about religious rules, those who set them and those who are supposed to follow them,...humans aren't perfect, you should already know that. Personally, I think the rule is ridiculous considering God made us all with sexual drive (there's no denying that). Factor in free-will and temptation (which we are all susceptible to), and you've got the perfect set up for failing to follow a religious rule/bar that is set way to high for humans who are genetically and mortally imperfect. It's a fact of life.

  • I'm a Christian and have grown up with many other Christians but I rarely hear them talk about it at all. What little I have heard or read is that it's discouraged. Personally I don't think it's wrong; I do believe that looking at pornography and having sexual relations outside of marriage is wrong though. And, as 2 other answerers mentioned, Christians do tend to marry young still [like in early 20's, and occasionally younger] and I wonder if part of that reason, at least for the guys, is so that they can have sexual relations soon without sinning.

    • I agree with the fact that they probably get married earlier due to some wants.

    • I got married at 24 1/2. Is that still young?

    • I guess kinda; I could be wrong but I think that those who believe and are willing to have sex before marriage tend to get married later than that because they're already getting many of the "benefits" from it so 24 is still young compared to them. Though I have some [Christian] friends who got married as young as 18 and 19.

  • I think, according to these faiths, especially Christianity, it's not so much the physical act of masturbating that is considered wrong. It's the lustful thoughts that obviously go with it. The Bible stresses mental and emotional purity as apposed to mere physical abstinence. That's probably why they are less likely to do it and more likely to feel guilty when they do do it.

  • In the three Abrahamic faiths, it is considered something you should not do. There are many reasons given for it, but with the same result. Yet, many still do it. Even in the more strict sects, masturbation is something that many do.

  • They don't call it masturbation.

  • To be glib: They marry really young and have sex with their wives.

And not masturbating does not kill you. If you don't have an outlet, then eventually it is discharged when you sleep. So they can survive without masturbation.

Now if you are talking about how do they have the willpower to do so? That's another question...

  • =) I bet they do! I`m a catholic, and according to the bible you should only have sex for reproduction. Therefor masturbation is considered as sinful. That`s also why the pope still is against the use of condoms. (Well even if he thought it would be ok, he couldn`t change the content of the bible.) But I don`t think that a lot of people stick to this rule. Rules like this, presented in the bible, certainly made sense when they were written 2000 years ago. (in this case even older.) If you had sex with a woman and you were not married to her, you could get into serious trouble at the time. But today it doesn`t make that much sense anymore. At least to me.

    • The Bible doesn't say that you should only have sex for reproduction... It even says that husbands/wives should not deny each other sex with the exception of a short time for an agreed upon, specific purpose (fasting and prayer, things like that).

    • Yes, that`s Martin Luthers Bible. Not the old school catholic bible though!

  • I went to 12 years of catholic school. We were told that if we masturbated that we would go blind!

Well there is a uncontrollable desire to say relieve yourself, so I did. I must add that I now need to wear contacts. I wounder if I slowed down in time before I went blind.

  • I hope that they do not get so harshly stigmatized for having a natural sex drive and expressing it in a way that won't allow them to contract an STD. Masturbation is a good thing, and sex is normal. I hope all guys and girls know that.

  • My religion frowns upon masturbation, but I masturbated secretly. Could not help it.

  • in islam there is no clear clue that masturbation is totally illegal..

so I do it without any guilt

  • Their are A LOT of things religious guys "aren't supposed to do" .. some don't masturbate, but many do ha ha its just natural

  • They probably masturbate more than non-religious guys lol

  • They survive by masturbating! ... I'm not speaking for all but if you are alone in a room, who is going to know. I'm pretty sure that I am 90% correct. Besides there is always such a thing as forgivance and prayer.

  • i don't fink there allowed to

  • Its been estimated about 95% of all men do it about 3 times a week...The other 5% are ether castrated, impudent, or have a lot of self control. So yes, religious boys do masturbate

  • I think most guys masturbate at least some, maybe not currently, but they have done it a few times or from time to time. Regarding religious guys, or those who really try to follow their religion (not just showing up at church because of social obligations), I think they for the most part try not to, and feel guilty when they do give in to such temptation. The drive is strong for nearly everyone, regardless of their convictions.

I know that when I was becoming more devoted to the gospel that at first I tried to convince myself that it was not bad, but the more I learned, the more I knew I was lying to myself and I really tried to stop. However, for quite a while that really just meant that I did it a lot less frequently, but would give in occasionally after getting really aroused (like after going clubbing). Eventually I quit clubbing too and really tried to change the media I indulged in to prevent the artificial arousal. Since then, over 13 years ago, there have been a few times when I have let myself slip spiritually and engaged in things I am not proud of (pornography occasionally accompanied by masturbation), but for the most part I have kept my life clean and I do feel much better when I am walking in a better path closer to God. I also have better relations with my family and friends when I try to live a life I think God would approve of.

  • I am not well versed in the rules of the various religions, but I am pretty confident that the Christian sects are against it. They may well be against it, but they are still human and fall prey too the same temptations all the rest of us do.

In the town I reside in we even had a Catholic priest who was doing quite a number of the very young girls. This information came out after he impregnated one of them. I guess though that he would be somewhat of an oddity as it seems the ones that get caught are usually after the young boys. A fact that I have never been able to quite figure out. I do no believe the priests have a monopoly on this bad behavior, but they do certainly seem to have the worst luck as too getting caught.

  • In Islam its controversial, there is no unanimous agreement between scholars that its forbidden. However, its agreed that men and women are required to clean up (take a shower) after masturbation/sex.
