Girls who are on the pill - do you also use condoms? Have you had any pregnancy scares while on birth control?

Just as the question asks... What are your experiences with birth control pills? Did it take long for you to find one that worked? Do you also use condoms, or just the pill? Have you had any pregnancy scares while on the pill if you didn't use a condom?

  • If I'm with someone long-term who has been tested and I know is clean, I don't use a condom. But if it's in the beginning of a relationship, I do. The pill doesn't protect against STDs! People need to understand that! And I actually did get pregnant on the pill. I took antibiotics during it because I got real sick thus making my birth control ineffective at the time, but I did not realize this and surprise! I have a son now. Now I'm omega IUD mirena. It's good for 5 years and I don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday at the same time because that is the ONLY way the pill is 99% effective is if you take it everyday at the SAME TIME!

    • Have you had any complications or side effects with your IUD? I'm considering using that instead of the pill.

    • Nope, none at all. Tho when you get it put in make sure you ask them to cut the strings short because they can get tangled up in there and end up scratching your partner. Also you won't have a period for the first year, but then it comes back. Take Tylenol the day you get it inserted like a half hr before, because you will cramp for awhile afterward. Also I got it put in 6 weeks after I had my son so my cervix was still soft and it wasn't painful at all but it can hurt a bit getting it put in.

  • I don't use condoms in addition to the pill, but it's partly because I also have PCOS, something that makes most women have a lot of trouble conceiving.

If that wasn't a factor, I'm not sure... I trust my birth control. There have been a couple of times when I've missed a pill, that's a situation where I would definitely use condoms for a while just to be safe.

My birth control "journey" was a long one! I started taking it when I was only 15 because I wasn't having regular periods and needed some extra estrogen, then it took me three different brands to find one that didn't have crappy side effects.

  • I'm on my second brand. It works better than the first but I still get stupid side effects. I don't use condoms because I'm allergic to them all, and my first and only partner so far was a virgin so I know he's clean. I haven't had any real scares. It's came a couple of days late but nothing to be worried over really.

    • you know that they make latex-free condoms right? I've needed them in the past and they are really reliable, you can get a box of 24 "skyn" condoms at walmart for 11 bucks a box

    • Yes I know. I said ALL condoms. The skyn ones aren't as bad as the latex ones but for some reason they still irritate me. And I can't stay wet with them. Sorry if that's tmi!

  • of course, I'm even more scared of stds than I am of pregnancy, and that saying something cus I really don't want to get pregnant

  • We used to, but since we're married we don't anymore. No pregnancy so far
