Can a man tell if you break the hymen?

In some cultures , they always tell the girls not to lose it before marriage because the man can tell if she isn't a virgin, if she doesn't bleed. But in sex education class, they claim tht "breaking the cherry" is a myth and nobody can really tell if you are a virgin or not. Also whenever I go to the doctor , they just ask me if I am a virgin. I think they ask because they can't examine the vagina and tell if you had sex or not. But some men still believe that people can tell if you broke it or not. I'm very confused on this topic because people also say riding a bike or horse or even playing sports breaks it , some people say using tampons break it ( my friends mom is a doctor, she says it's myth that tampons break it)

Well I asked a guy once to check if he could see my hymen, he is pretty experienced. He said he couldn't see anything . I have had a finger been up there but fingers are small so I'm not sure of mine is still intact or not

  • A doctor CAN tell if you are sexually active to a point. If you are 19 and had sex one time when your were 14, then not so much. During a OB/GYN appointment they can see that the hymen is not there bit not how you lost it.

I have been with four virgins and I could only tell with one that she was a virgin and that is because I could actually feel the barrier restricting access and my needing to back out and thrust a little harder and deeper.

Of the four only two bled. Both girls were on the small to tiny size. One was 5'5" and weighed around 104 lbs or less. The other was just small inside and I bottomed out before I was fully inside her and I am average-ish in size.

A tampon will only break your hymen if used improperly.

My ex was a virgin when her and I got together (we were 12-her and 13-me) and she had broken her hymen on the monkey bars of a swing-set when she was 6. A cousin did break hers falling off a horse. So yes even external trauma could break it.

For the most part the hymen is a thin yet strong barrier. The hymen is a fold of tissue which usually covers part of the vagina. In extreme cases the hymen covers the entire vagina, and must be broken to allow menstruation. Once thought to be rather delicate, it has recently been learned that the hymen is actually very elastic, and capable of healing quickly.

    • Hmm two fingers have been up mine, I don't know if mine is still intact lol

  • Can always ask a ob/gyn bout as they RARELY streach across the vagina fully 100%, then they are not easy to see.

Your friend got a free look at your vagina as without a speculum or other proper tools all he would be able to see or touch is your vagina.

As uncomfortable as loosing it is durring sex, I imagine it would hirt more as a young girl loosing it in an unconventional way. You would have remembered.

You moms friend is a doctor of what exactly? What state or country? I am asking becuase 98% of the stuff I saw on the web states that if the tampon is used or inserted incorrectly then YES it can break the hymen.

  • There are a lot of myths about the hymen but from what I gather, it is just a fold of tissue around the opening of the vagina. Its thickness and size can vary between girls and, like skin, it can be stretched out from movements and from inserting things into the vagina. Also if it gets stretched too far it can break and start to bleed. The severity of the tear deciding how much blood there will be.

There is no physical way anyone can tell if a girl has had sex or not (unless you consider rape examinations, which looks for presence of semen and vaginal trauma). But some cultures examine their girls for their "tightness" to decide if she is still a virgin or not and they expect the girls to bleed on the wedding night as that ascertains that she has never had vaginal intercourse with a man before. It is sad that if the girls don't comply with these myths it can cause such awful consequences.

    • Lol but what if she is a virgin , she just didn't bleed? Do all women bleed on there first time? I know where you are Coming from. I personally believe women need to be educated before marriage so that they don't have to put up with that crap after marriage. The man goes around screwing girls but of his wife did it in the past , he gets pissed.. Those women should get a divorce so they don't have to rely on their husbands for financial support and they can be independent and live their own lives.

    • Well, as I said, the hymen has different sizes and it can be stretched out by things other than sex, or it might be small enough that it doesn't get stretched at all, even when having sex. So if someone will bleed or not depends on entirely on their physiology and far from all girls will ever bleed or break their hymen. I thought I made that clear... Being a virgin and breaking your hymen or not are two completely different things.

  • hymen has nothing to do with virginity. being virgin means you have never had sex with any guy. or in plain words, no penis has been inserted into your vagina. also not all hymens can be broken. some are elastic, some are thin, etc there are many types...even there are females who don't have hymens at all.

  • No one can tell a girl except her self that she is virgin or not. hymen may break due to many reasons like, bike or cycle riding, insertion or anything in childhood, horse riding or sometimes while playing your legs might have spread more.

But one thing is sure that no one can actually tell you are virgin or not except you only.

  • I was told by someone that tampons can't break a hymen. personally I can't tell if a girl has her's or not but I'm not very experienced.

personally I don't care if a girl is a virgin or not, sure I would be flattered if she was willing to let me be her first but it's not a big issue for me.

  • The best answer is sometimes, maybe. Depends on the hymen itself. Some are so thick they require surgery in lieu of some very painful early experiences. Some shrink back on their own. Some wear away from sports. Masturbation can play a part. A tampon? No. It is the width of a Sharpie while some guys are as wide as cucumbers.

Virginity is a state of mind. That is much easier to detect but still not foolproof.

Summary: Maybe in extreme cases only.
