I need more data. Why is the 40-year-old man single? How do they know each other? If he divorced a loyal same age wife so he could chase younger tail, or was never married to begin with, I would be telling her to run and to not look back.
Me personally, I'm a 42-year-old widower who had to go back to school to compete with an ever changing job market, so 98% of the women I talk to are 20-ish. But I can't imagine why a girl that age would choose me when she could have a frat boy (for a hookup) or an honor student (for a committed relationship).

Most 40 year olds I know who are still chasing 20 year olds are fit, but drunks who don't realize that despite staying in shape, they still aren't as hot as guys who are in their mid-twenties. That's just my experience. They tend to overcompensate with expensive dates, though.

you could list all kinds of pro's and con's to a relationship of same age or very different age's at the end of the day tho why waste all that energy over analising. either your happy together or your not. would I feel kinda cool getting the attention of a much younger woman? yes but that not a bad thing. I would also be worried she's just trying to use me for my money or that she will leave as soon as someone her own age comes along. so I wouldn't waste to much energy on the subject.

As far as older guys/younger girls go, change the numbers to 50/30 and it is common as rain in both dating and (second) marriage and can be very satisfying to both.
