So I was watching a Law & Order: SVU episode about (consensual) sibling incest and it made me think of some questions. First of all what do you think about incest? And this entire question is all about incest between consenting adults. I personally think its just weird and wrong. I don't have a good reason for thinking this way that's just what I think. For the people out there who say incest is wrong because it goes against God and the Bible says its wrong, what about Adam and Eve's children. I mean if Adam and Eve were the first two people on earth and they had children together who did their children reproduce with? And for the people who think incest is wrong because the children will have birth defects, it is possible for people to have sex and not have a baby. If the incestuous couple did have a baby there would be a higher chance that the child might be born with some type of birth defect, but there is also a chance the child will be born perfectly normal. If you are someone who thinks its alright if a brother and sister have a sexual relationship as long as they are both consenting adults, do you also think its alright for a father and daughter to have a sexual relationship as long as they are both consenting adults? Parent/child incest weirds me out so much more than sibling incest. Is sibling incest more common in certain parts of the world or in certain types of families, such as single-parent families, or families in certain social classes? These are the types of random questions that pop into my head when I watch Law & Order: SVU.

What I think about and my reading of incest:

A topic on which volumes can be written and debated not surely for 3000 characters, but let's try

1. Forget Adam & Eve, take life in any form including animals, insects, plants, humans etc

2. Logic isn't the answer here, fact and truth is

3. Humans formed society, society formed thinkers and thinkers formed religion cause humans require something to look upto and / or fear to follow without debate (generally at least just as following various religions proves it for a fact)

4. These thinkers are the ones who noticed, discovered and invented various things that are called in modern days as science in any form

5. Incest is allowed in some forms legally in certain socieities and countries. Like a man marrying a sister's daughter in especially matriarchial forms of society etc

6. The thinkers who discovered genetics and studied it found in general in their times that birth defects are possible by mixing up paternal chromosomes that holds true in certain cases for sure. There are communities whose numbers dwindle due to inbreeding. So have certain species of animals perished that were present in smaller geographical areas (not talking about dinosaurs who dissappeared in the evolutionary phases)

7. Ancient Romans and Greeks practiced incest when it was not 'illegal'

8. There were certain situations that caused humans to be savage or uncultured with one of the primary reasons identified by the thinkers as (1) hunger (2) sex

9. The way to control these was (1) community (2) faith

10. hence, they formed (1) society (2) religion

11. When (1) society was formed it laid down rules for various things and one of them was sex (2) religion was formed to make people follow a faith and fear repurcussions

12. Ideas of the unknown and superhumans in some form who were preachers imbibed fear of fault in humans cause every human can think and individual thinking creates a power house in each individual. Hence they had to be made collective

13. The words god and devil became synonymous with human lives which is how we know of Adam and Eve

14. Science and history shows evolution of humans from apes, neanderthals, homo erectus, homo sapiens and finally homo sapiens sapiens (us in present form) and incest was not only common but also natural among all of these including in animals in today's world

15. The whole concept of incest is formed by society and guided / ruled by religion apart from which nature didn't make incest punishable in any way else animals wouldn't exist

16. What matters is good feelings for each other and sex to procreate. However, read points 5 & 6.

Bottomline, there is nothing wrong with sibling love on the contrary that can be the best relationship ever!

I'm sure those following religion and reading out of books will debate this (read points 8 to 13) and which is why most people fearing whiplash from those opposing it will answer anonymously

However, since we humans can think, the thinkers ensured that apart from the birth defects part, inbreeding will not only diminish the populace even to extinction over a period of time but also that no one will look out towards a community survival since everyone will be 'self sufficient' within their own family thus also probably creating a lot of chaos of sorts (lengthy to explain) that won't ever allow a society to form thus threaten existence + Parent / child incest is the worst form perceived since the child may be subject to actual rape and none will ever look at it as wrong in such a case.

5. Once can't categorize it as such. It's a mutual thing and certainly not genetic - as I've stated earlier it's about bonding of 2 humans leaving out the human created fears and preachings

I think its a bad idea, because if the relationship ends, its going to be extremely difficult compared to how it would be otherwise.

Its also a bad idea because people benefit from those sibling relationships. That's even more true of a parent and a child.
