The push for circumcision by default in western culture started just after WWII, with the first wave of post-war medical and technological breakthroughs, and the real beginnings of social science and sexual studies. Simply put, a very small number of doctors (who were MALE; female doctors were quite rare at the time) proclaimed that being uncircumcised was a health risk, and in the 1940s and 50s, few people questioned doctors, who were assumed to be right and noble by most people.
As time went on, and as these studies got published outside of medical journals, circumcision by default became the standard, especially in the US. It caught on in Europe for a while, but there, it didn't take nearly as long for more studies to be done that debunked the myths started by that original US study, and circumcision by default started falling out of favor in the 1980s, while in the US, the practice is only now starting to be widely questioned. It's still the de facto standard, but there has been some movement over the last decade away from it. Some of the doctors in these newer studies have been women, BTW.
So, no, I don't believe feminists had much if anything to do with this practice. It was simply one of many "new" (at the time) practices that came out of early, limited studies and possibly by doctors with an agenda (after all, circumcision was a billable practice), that just took far too long to be debunked and widely questioned in the US.
It's never been hard to find a doctor or three to sign off on a questionable medical procedure if it would put dollars into their pockets. Sure, most doctors may decline, but there are more than enough exceptions. Just look at late-night TV ads.1 2 0 1"Circumcision massively decreases the sensitivity of the penis and makes it much harder to masturbate. Therefore, men only get real sexual satisfaction from vaginal penetration."
I am circumcised and I can say without a doubt that all of that is untrue. I know circumcision decreases sensitivity, but it still feels great, it's not hard to masturbate, and I don't need a vagina for sexual gratification.
If a girl (or guy) thinks that way, she is sorely mistaken.0 1 0 0did you get circumcised as and adult though? I mean I think I feel fine and I was circed but had it done as a baby so I relaly can't compare

Ahaha no. People support circumcision mostly because they believe a lot of myths about uncut penises (or for religious/traditional reasons). Women may be more likely to believe the myths because they generally don't have penises and know less about them.
1 1 0 2yes but I feel like women deifntiely gloat over it
Who? The woman (if it is a woman) who wrote that? As a general rule: take conspiracy theory rants with a grain of salt.
well I mean if it results in less pleasure though how could women help but feel superior to men..hoenstly I don't like the idea that all girls know my gentials were cut and altered while there's were left alone.
nope they don't want to control men. My sons will be cut because after doing research on the matter it lowers the risks of many diseases and health issues in boys/girls and its much cleaner.
1 1 0 4the bnefits are not cosndiere major though...infac tthe AAP doenst recommend circumcision they just ssy parents can decide to...are you worried your sons might loose sexual pelasure when they get older?
There are plenty enough men in this world who are cut who have plenty of pleasure during sex. my sons will be fine
some have issues in odl age...but also...evne if he has "plenty"...are you aoky talking a lot from him? I ean there are men who have gotten cut in old age and then think it was horrible msitake and say it reduces their pleasure big time..cut men who get cut as babies might feel fine but they don't have anything to compare it to...they don't know that theyre missing alot..but often men cut as aduts do know the difference.
I don't think most people think that deeply about it.it's just become a tradition and something people just do

3 3I don't believe circumcision is actually more hygienic. There's a Penn and Teller episode on it.

NSFW:0 1 2 1that ei[psode is really biased though..i admit circ shoudlt be as widespread as it is..but that show was meant to be sensationalist.
Is cutting of a body part of an infant ok?
no...im anti-infant circ but I'm saying that there ARE medicla beenfits and that the effects are often blown WAY ouf of proprotion of even made up by the anti-circ crowd.
I dont think that many women think this way though i understand the point.
0 0 0 0I oppose male genital mutilation. If I will have a son, I would never force him to undergo it. I also believe that it's very important to educate people about health consequences of MGM, to help eliminating it.
0 2 0 0You keep posting circumcision questions. Don't you think you should take this up with the government instead?
0 1 0 0what do you mean..they can't help me.
You want a ban on circumcision. Take it out on the government.
that will be great if enough morons get behind it and actually pass some ridiculous crap like that. its not like it would be a religious thing or lead to it being done illegally. hope that there are not enough morons like the QA
good to see you're still trolling around here
