Follow up: The reason why the question was asked in the first place is because I'm 3 days late on my period. I had brown spotting for two days and it stopped I'm not wiping anything now. -_- I'm a little scared.

  • Properly used, that won't happen, which is why condoms are recommended as an option.

Condoms can break if they are old, improperly stored (carried in a wallet is a very bad idea; it breaks them down), not put on correctly, used with petroleum-based lube (which breaks down latex), or allowed to dry out (not enough lube - natural or store-bought).

Condoms can also "leak" sometimes if the guy doesn't pull out before he goes soft, because he can slip right out of the condom and the semen can leak out and could possibly end up inside you (rare but possible).

All of these problems are pretty easy to prevent. Use NEW condoms, store them out of the heat or the freezing cold, apply properly, and if store-bought lube is used, make sure it is water-based. And if he is extremely large or extremely small, use a properly-sized condom, even if you have to order them online. 80% of men are between 5.3-6.2" long, and between 4.5-5.5" in circumference, so standard condoms will fit properly.

    • Even with correct usage, condoms still have about a 2% failure rate. There are simply too many variables, and even a new condom properly applied can break in such a way that you never notice it.

  • Short answer is yes.

Long answer is this: even when used perfectly and all directions are followed to a T, roughly 2% of couples who use only condoms get pregnant every year. Despite all precautions, condoms are still simply thin sheets of latex that can and do occasionally break or slip out of place.

And in real world, that 2% doesn't really apply. Most people don't follow the instructions perfectly every single time. In the heat of the moment, they forget to check the date on the wrapper, or they put it on too fast, or they don't pull out correctly, or make any number of other mistakes. The actual failure rate for couples who use only condoms outside of the confines of manufacturer labs and research facilities is around 15%.

  • I suppose. There's always a chance. The condom can tear, have a hole in it, not have the correct amount of whatever they put on/in it to make sure the sperm dies...he (or you) could not put it on correctly...any number of possibilities.

The odds are very low assuming the condom was functional and used correctly.

  • Yes it is possible. If the condom has been stored correctly and is put on his penis correctly then it is highly unlikely but any time you have sex there is always a risk of pregnancy unless you are infertile. Nothing is 100%.

  • No method is 100% safe, only abstinence is. But if you used the condom correctly then chances are so slim.

  • There is always the off chance the condom could break or rip

    • Oh, in that case, you covered it pretty well.

    • @the update. Most of the time, this is nothing to worry about; however, it could be a sign of pregnancy or a symptom of damage having been done to reproductive system, the last of which I really doubt. You should take a pregnancy test just to be sure.

  • Yes it can happen!

  • It is imposable to get pregnant if your using a condom ... reserch has proven that condoms can not break as they are made out of the same material as Spidermans webs !

  • condoms (as it says on the package) are about 99% effective. so yes there is a chance a person could get pregnant, especially if the condom breaks

  • It's rare but it can happen. The condom could tear or break

  • If you're 3 days late, take a pregnancy test.

  • Condoms aren't 100%...so theoretically, yes.

  • yes there is a chance you can get pregnant with a condom - sometimes it can get loose or break etc

  • yes. what if the condom breaks? they can fail up to 25% of the time with normal usage according to planned parenthood. any woman who is sexually active should be on birth control if she doesn't want kids
