My Problem With Political Correctness and Political Bias

It's kind of funny that I'm typing this take. When I was younger, I never thought I would care so much about society. I use to think I could keep to myself and let the world duke it out. It all started with social media...

1.) Social media is powerful

I started voicing my opinions online through "YouTube", technically "YouTube" is social media although it's not designed for users to make friend switch each other, especially since most people stay anonymous on YouTube. I created my first YouTube account around 2011, of course I kept my identity hidden. I used that account not to post videos but to voice my opinions in the comments on controversial videos. After a while, I decided to close that YouTube account.

In 2014, I created my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. I've always heard of these websites but they never got my attention until my cousins showed me their social media accounts, that's when I decided to create these social media accounts.

I use my real name on the accounts and describe myself on my accounts, I even post pictures of myself. However, I don't say what city I live in or my address.

I quickly started voicing my opinions on random topics, I started following MRA pages and other random pages where I would voice my opinions, I'll save that for another take.

However, I decided to slowly stop voicing my opinion because I found out that certain employers do check social media.

2.) Political correctness in social media

Fortunately I never took it too far when criticizing the far left/radical liberals on social media and I've never posted anything "offensive" either, so I don't really care if certain employers ask to view my social media accounts.

However, I no longer post any comments because I don't want to mess up and accidentally post something offensive. It's kind of disappointing how a person who doesn't support leftism has to be careful with what they post in social media, because that person's reputation can be ruined for not being "politically correct" or for not supporting the same things the leftists support.

3.) Political bias of employers

I know not every employer is biased but that doesn't mean there aren't biased employers. For example a employer will refuse to hire a person because his social media accounts have MRA posts but that same employer will hire a person who's social media accounts have misandrist posts. This is political bias. While, there are justifiable reasons for not hiring a person because of their social media, it's an abuse of power to incorrectly label something on the person's social media accounts as "offensive", "sexist", "racist" "anti LGBT" or "xenophobic" when it's none of those things.

4.) Political correctness ruins lives

A person has to be careful with what they post on social media and say in public cause it can ruin their lives. Any little thing a person says in public can be recorded or if a person posts something on social media and if it gets a "screenshot", someone can misinterpret it and try to ruin the person's reputation. This is usually a problem for celebrities. People have no choice but to restrict their speech.

5.) Report happy

Reporting people's posts on social media just because you don't agree with their views is a just a cheap shot used to silence opposing views. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean it's wrong.

Overall, I don't care what your political views are. I respect your views even if I don't agree with them. I'm personally between moderate and independent(some call it apolitical) when it comes to politics but I do agree with a lot of conservative, right libertarian views and only a small amount of liberal views. I don't expect everyone to agree with my views but I do expect them to respect my views. I'm not anti-LGBT, a racist or a xenophobe. I simply don't agree with a lot of left wing views.

Honestly it amazes me that some people can't comprehend the difference between someone actually being a racist, homophobe or a bigot in general and someone saying something that they don't agree with because it challenges what they've been indoctrinated to believe.

It further amazes me that someone in the opinion section actually said that YOU'D be recognized as a bigot in 50 years, when logic tells me that history will remember them as the intolerant bigots.

It's ideal for human resource to hire employees regardless of political affiliation. In reality, I think it will not happen smoothly because of preferences that are inevitable. I think human resource management purposely discriminates candidates by political affiliation to maintain camaraderie in the workplace without people needing to compromise and suppress their beliefs just to withstand the presence of employees who have different stances than them. This happens in religious firms, too. It's the depressing reality.

In my opinion, I think personal social media accounts should not be monitored by employers. I would understand it if an employee were to publicly defame the name of his/her firm; that's the acceptable time when a business should assess the social media account of the suspected. Employees do remain employees in the internal business setting but as they leave the workplace, they'll get involved in things, oftentimes personal endeavors, not stipulated by their job descriptions.

I've literally never understood a mytake less in my life. you said that it ruins peoples lives, but no one holds a gun to your head and makes you type something racist, homophobic, etc. you're saying that you should be allowed to say whatever you want but there should be absolutely no reproductions for it, but that's not how the world works. If my coworker made sexual or racist comments toward me, then they'd lose their job. So it makes sense that you making sexual or racist comments would prevent you from getting hired. You would hire someone whose previous employers say has her problems, so why would you hire someone that looks like they might have problems due to their online post.
Also, I find that political correctness tends to mean "doing the right thing that we all know we should be doing." I'm not Asian, I've never used a racial slur against Asian people simply because I know it's wrong and I wouldn't like it if I were in their position. I practiced two things there, the ability to step back and avoid impulsive decision and empathy. it's free to use and easy to use. If I learn that a term is offensive later, then I apologize, correct my mistake, and move on. That's not hard either, it's just part of learning and growing as an adult.
although I know women agree with you too, this reminds me of that whole "boys will be boys" mentality. If you're someone over the age of 16 then you should be held accountable for your actions, and speaking is an action. If you show that you don't think before you post, then it's not an employers fault that they can see it.
Also, you seem to not understand how freedom of speech works, you can say what you want but that doesn't mean you're free from criticism (which is the opposing view's freedom of speech too)

There is a big difference between a post that is actually bigotry and one that maybe labeled as bigotry because the views are different than there own. A person saying something like "kill all men" is obviously spewing hate speach, and inciting violence vs someone who says something like "not all men" which is a statement of tolerance and inclusion. Yet the first is not considered hate speech and the second is. (Both are popular hash tags on Twitter). To be denied a position due to the second post is one of intolerance, especially if someone would hire someone who posts the first.

I don't think your issue is with political correctness, rather, I think your issue is with prejudice in the workplace. When I think of political correctness. I think of people using different terminology to describe something as to not offend the person or thing they're describing. Such as instead of saying faggot, I can call them homosexual or gay. Or I also think of when Trump has recordings of him saying when he see's an attractive girl, that you should just grab them by the pussy. That is not politically correct and should definitely not be said.

That I think is a fair summing up especially on the employer front and reaction to what you say. To bring it back to say general discussion rules, everyone is entitled to their opinion and disagreements will happen but to punish someone for holding an opposing view is wrong. It is just this murky area where you cannot get clean cut boundaries. It is a fair statement to say some people offend and some people take PC too far. You can even flip it and say is it okay to offend people you are against especially non liberal. I have often lost my temper and said stuff that I regretted sometimes even apologising for but would get nowhere near the backlash a non liberal would get. To make a long answer short, I simply don't know I ardently believe in free speech but that privilege doesn't give you right to abuse. The sweet spot is somewhere in the middle but getting society to agree where it is won't happen this side of never.

I'm not a conservative either. Socially I've mostly identified as more liberal. I just don't identify with them any longer because how extreme it's gotten. I think I've also become more of a free thinker as I've gotten older and plugged myself out of the influence of the bay area liberal matrix as well.
