Why banning facial wear is a terrible idea!

Why this take was written

Very recently there has been asked a question on here regarding the #Hijab #OutfitBan.

Since people seem to value labels these days ill identify that this is written from the perspective from a Western White Male. That means that i have no interest towards the Hijab and i'd like the women that wear it to do that by there own choice and not by force.

There where a lot of comments in favor of a (public) ban and this shocked me, since there where so many and responding to all of them would involve me saying the same argument over and over i decided to turn this into a MyTake for everyone to see.

While many arguments in this take can be seen in favor of the Hijab, Burqa and other clothing this is not the intent. I am not trying to act in favor of any particular piece of clothing, i am merely trying to depict the danger of restriction. My debunking arguments that are to follow are meant to show you why this ban is not required and not why everyone should start wearing a specific clothing piece.

The arguments in favor of a ban

Distrust for anonymity or fear of terrorism

This seems to be the main one people are concerned about, ill quote one of the comments.

"what if you want to board an airplane but are wearing a niqab? How are they going to check if it's really you?"

To solve this there are actually a couple of really effective methods, first of all everyone at the airport is always forced to walk trough security gates. A Niqab or Burqa can not hide a weapon any easier then western clothes when these detection gates are being used. It will beep at everything metallic and when searching you should still be able to feel any odd containers. So regardless of clothes the same methods should be effective, this is logical since they where designed with a wide variety of clothes in mind specifically by looking trough clothing and searching for items.

The second part to this is identification, how do you identify that the person really is who they say they are? How can you know, they are wearing full body covering clothing that even masks there posture a little. The answer to this is simple, fingerprints or DNA samples (When stored) or a temporary removal of facial wear in a separate room. If someone refuses to uncover they should submit there DNA sample beforehand so they can pass trough security checkpoints without uncovering. When fingerprints are available in your passport like it is the case in some of the european countries they can simply take the finger prints and compare. If they align the person is who they say they are. Its a trick used in the game Papers Please where sometimes people look very different from the photo, you ask for the prints and compare.

Now the third part i bet some of you don't like to admit. Them being next to you on the plane is making you uncomfortable. The real question is, why so? Even though you can see all of the people in the plane i bet you know nobody other then the people you travel with. While the people with full body cover may look more dangerous or anonymous to you, the reality of the matter remains that everyone else is equally anonymous since you have no idea who they are, what they like, and what dangerous things they might have done in the past. If you can blindly trust them to be on the same plane because of the screening that took place beforehand, you should be able to blindly trust someone in full cover. The real reason you are scared is because the media depicts terrorism in a similar fashion so this kind of image on a plane has been thought to you as fearful while in reality 99% of the time they are just people like you.

While the people with full body cover may look more dangerous or anonymous to you, the reality of the matter remains that everyone else is equally anonymous since you have no idea who they are.

As for the argument about terrorists hiding bombs under them? Wear some proper layers in winter with a small enough but still powerful bomb and you should not see a difference with western clothes. Once again this is all about the image you have been thought of terrorism, in reality many terrorist acts have western influences. In reality someone with a burqa is going to have so many people pay attention to them its really a terrible cover up so it makes no sense for a terrorist to pick this over a more trusting and deceiving outfit.

Women should be allowed to wear whatever they want and should not be forced to (not) wear something!

Great! I totally agree with you! Freedom is very important and it should be the number one thing we take in consideration to protect ourselves from harm. Banning a piece of clothing is the exact opposite of what you are trying to achieve, after all where someone was once forced to wear something they are now forced not to wear something. The amount of forced decisions did not decrease with the new law, instead there freedom is limited on the opposite side of the spectrum. Instead we should criminalize people forcing others to wear certain clothes and when reported the people responsible should be warned and fined and those "defecting" protected. While i admit this solution is a lot more difficult it is the only actual solution. As some of you cleverly pointed out if one piece of clothing is banned they will just switch to the closest western version to it, for example masks so in the end you are solving nothing.

What is really going on and why it matters!

This is not a war on Islam, its a war on privacy

So in the last argument mentioned the clever comment that they will just switch to the next available thing. So let me be the first to introduce, the Hijab 2.0 for a truly western digital world! :D

Why banning facial wear is a terrible idea!

Yup! Thats it, the Guy Fawkes anonymous mask! Often worn in protests and by the activist group that calls itself Anonymous who have also been called Terrorists. Combine this with a hoodie and you are pretty much covered (Literally).

The people pulling the strings love people who are mostly driven by ideology, they are very easy to influence based on there moral view. "This poor women is oppressed so we should set her free by banning the items they oppress her with". I can sympathize with this since you have a concern for others (and so do i) but if you put ideology before realism or logic you can easily miss the bigger picture of what is really going on, so allow me to enlighten you.

If i wanted to disarm the people from protesting (anonymously) against my future plans they will dislike i will have to make sure they are depicted as terrorists and there means are taken away. To start this we can fuel both sides of the spectrum, the patriots by convincing them that there country is being taken over by a foreign religion and assisting them by banning the things that resemble set religion. And we can fuel those who care most about human rights by showing them how women are forced to wear these and how this impacts there freedom. We then offer a very simple solution by taking these means away which should appeal to both groups and by extend most people should be ok with this. The ones not ok with this should not be a problem, since the general public already believes its enslavement and inferior to our own culture as these people do not have the freedom to wear what they want. And because we mostly pander to there ideology and we virtue signal how good of a person we are for helping women stand up to oppression they should not notice that in fact we are the oppressors by taking this away from them.

If i wanted to disarm the people from protesting (anonymously) against my future plans they will dislike i will have to make sure they are depicted as terrorists and there means are taken away.

Of course we don't expect this to work, we had tons of advisers tell us that they will just switch to something else but that is actually a good thing. Sooner or later they will start using regular masks, in fact we should propose this idea trough social engineering and promote these masks along the lines of "You can take my Hijab but not my religion" and fuel the islamic people to wear these western symbols of anonymity. This should convince the general public its better to ditch there privacy in exchange for protection from foreign terroristic influences making sure they won't weaponize with masks against the tracking we put in place and we can easily identify where they go and what they are doing.

Oh and of course this doesn't solve the actual religious problem at all despite all the signals pointing towards it. So we can later admit we need more drastic measures and use this escape goat once again without them suspecting a thing! >:D

The result of the ban

So lets say my fictional scenario works, any kind of facial wear is now banned as some of you have been rooting for in the comments on the question. What then?

Lets say google glass has a breaktrough and everyone is now walking around with a camera on there head, recording you every single second of every single moment you are outside. Waiting for your next blooper to upload on youtube, the next blackmail to use against you or simply to sell you a new product more effectively. Where you currently have the possibility of a mask in case such a thing where to become mainstream this will have been taken away from you forcing you to be observed the entire day without protection or freedom from this.

Lets imagine that the government has succeeded enough disarming plans for you to no longer rile up against them. They have all the weapons, they have all the tracking, they know who comes together and where, they know what you discuss and most importantly they know exactly who is going to oppose them. You can no longer be part of a crowd that protests against a government policy since the only way to do this without possible repercussions for your job or arrests afterwards.

But what if the government never goes rogue (Which history has told us time and time again its not a matter of if but a matter of when), then you don't have a reason to be anonymous right? Aside from the Google Glass argument still being valid in this scenario there is something else that is currently more dangerous. Certain ideology's have been taking over university's, workplaces and marketing. Some company's already don't want anything to do with you if you have been caught saying certain views in your private life that don't fit you. Google recently fired someone from trying to help the balance between the genders from a very realistic viewpoint, he said we should hire both sexes for there talents rather then artificially increase a certain demographic with quota's. This did not fit there ideological viewpoint and despite him being completely reasonable and fair to both genders he got depicted by the media as a sexist. Now imagine you are in a crowd with good intentions, you are fighting with the right moral standpoints but the story gets spun around or some people in the crowd start to riot after you left. The media managed to take a picture of your face and you are now associated with viewpoints opposing those of your work place or with a riot you where not apart in when it took place. The company fires you for not fitting there views and you are now out of a job. The last part of what i just wrote is not fiction, it happened .

You have to be fearful.

Since the take is already quite long i will keep this point short.

If you have nothing to fear, you have no reason to let someone rule over you and give up your freedom. This means that they will always provide you something to fear, something they can protect you against. Because if they do so, you are willing to give up your privacy, your freedom and your money. In other words you give up your power. The people in control of the world are in control for one very logical reason, they have power because they seek power. They seek power because they crave it, they desire to be more powerful then you. It benefits them, keeps them healthy and allows you to keep working for them without even knowing it. They will never tell you this the honest way, instead they will feed your ideological side with story's that benefit them! This is being done trough politics, but also trough religion. Always think for yourself, find the answers yourself and think logically before blindly accepting someone's proposal based on there argument alone.

The moral of the story, and the warning of what is going on.

The moral of the story here is that things are not as coincidental as you may think, the reasoning goes a lot deeper then they will tell you in the media. If you allow an entity to create an artificial advantage for you, you become dependent on them. They CONTROL you. If you allow the entity to take a freedom away, even if its something you oppose such as a Hijab you are allowing them to CONTROL you.

When people loose to much CONTROL they will no longer be Free! And when most of your control is lost you will lack the control to reverse this. Think beyond ideology and seek reasoning behind someone's actions. If it is limiting someone in anyway that should be a red flag. Things like global monitoring, putting democracy on hold in times of crisis (Which can also mean the citizens disagreeing and protesting), restrictions on what to say / believe or wear only serve one purpuse. These idea's serve to make you more easily controlled, preferably to the point where you are forever powerless to oppose those in charge. And when that time comes, they are free to rule however they want with ever increasing technology to dismantle the opposing idea's.

Be protective over your own civil rights, be free!
