Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

Sex ed, Also known as Sex Education is teaching how sex works. Simple isn't it? You find it simple because you were taught sex ed at a young age in schools.

But what happens if your government is so conservative to add it in your school syllabus?

What if the sex itself is a taboo in the society you live?

This might sound like imaginary but it does exist in developing countries with conservative nature.

Being an Indian, I'm much familiar with this situation. Yes, we've sex ed included in our syllabus for approximately 9th grade (Around 14-15 yo) But there are many reasons for which it isn't helpful at all! There are many obstacles we came across to overcome it. Those who succeed, act like so-called normal people but those who don't, end up asking for bobs and vagene on random websites.

The situation I'm about to explain is relative to my country, India but I've strongly believed it is true for other conservative countries too which are developing and have the situation similar to India.

Illiterate Parents, Illiterate Children

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed
While India suffers from poverty, illiteracy comes along with it. The first obstacle is the biggest one. Due to illiteracy and low wage, parents don't allow their children to attend schools even they're free of cost. What if children themselves don't want to attend school? About 26% of world population is illiterate. Firstly you need children in your school to teach them! I'll discuss it further i.e. what happens with sexual education when a boy like this grows up.

Right now let's consider remaining 63% Indians who are attending school.

Shy Teachers

This is a video made by EIC, a comedy group. Although it is made in 2014, it still stands true. Discussing sex in front of many people is taboo. Even the teachers aren't the exception for it. They just skip the lectures when it comes to sex ed instead of answering those questions. I've had this experience at my school too. My teacher gave us an excuse of DEADLINE to complete his own work and just skipped the topic. Even if someone agrees to teach it for the sake of law, due to highly censored content, the topic is un-understandable.

CULTURAL VALUES

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

The cultural values interfere in every aspect of our life including sexual. In Hindu religion, Same Sex is not allowed nor in Islam (Second biggest religion in India). The result of this is Same-Sex Marriages Are Illegal. (They'll soon become legal btw) but how is this related to sex ed? In countries of Kamasutra itself, there is common believe that Sex before marriage is wrong. Politicians and extremist never use complete logic. they derived their meaning which concludes that Why one should know about sex before marriage? That's against our culture!

*Talk* With Parents

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

An imaginary thing like unicorns and mermaids! I'm close to my mother as well as my father but believe me, I've never ever said or heard the word sex in my own house irrespective of the fact that both of my parents are highly educated. My family isn't an exception. The same story goes with others too. Children (or teens like me) don't get to discuss sex with their parents.

This might not be true for girls (I'm not sure with it) as they start expericace periods in early teen years.

From Where Do You Learn About Sex?

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

All of us know the answer to it! straight to the porn! Yes, that's true. When you've access to technology and want to learn about sex, porn is the best option due to advanced teaching techniques like audio and visual. But....there is much harm in learning from porn if you don't know the basics. About 50% porn on the internet is ANAL. Leaving this category alone, we've lesbian porn, gay porn, BDSM, etc. You might enjoy watching but learning from it is a dangerous task. What if the person watches anal from start and thinks that anal means real sex? or if he watches BDSM and starts sexually and painfully harassing women around him? or maybe he'll watch male submissive BDSM and might end up drilling his own penis!

The Misconceptions

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

The biggest misconception is about gender selection. In many countries having a female child is considered as bad luck and the blame goes to the women because people still think females choose the gender of the infant. It ends up with wife beating, in extreme conditions, Burning her alive ( Welcome to the 3rd world, feminists). Another misconception is about contraception. The people who enjoy sex (yeah forced sex on wife) are never aware of contraceptives like condoms, pills etc. They end up having 6-7 babies until wife gets sick (sorry for being blunt but that's the world we live in)

The third one is about AIDS. We all know AIDS is STD but what about the person who never had sex ed? his condition become pretty much same as people from 1600s. he actually believes AIDs is the god's punishment and so does the society. society end ups sending him into exile

Social Awareness? No Thanks

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed

Coming back from the first point, what happens if you don't go to school? Yes, Social awareness can be spread even if people are illiterate. But in a conservative society, it gets really difficult. The government might arrest you for that. But suppose if you manage to escape that, to conduct a session. But who will come to watch you? If you expect working class, then they won't come because society thinks that's degrading. Women? you can just dream of it. There can be such extremism that she will be slut shammed just for attending that session. At least tees? Lol, parents will think that you're teaching vulgar things so they won't allow it. Either way, you'll end up teaching a bunch of perverts what they already know about.

The Combined Effect - Send BOB and Vagene

Living in a Country Without Sex Ed
The funniest meme on the internet but actual truth. I guess many female gag users might have experienced it too. The bobs and vagene effect is the mixture of every shitty thing; the poverty, which leads to illiteracy, the bombardment of cheap technology (cheapest smartphone is available at 4$), poor control over language, and the list goes on. What's the effect on us, the fellow citizens? The embarrassment and tons of judgments from other people. It's my kind request to stop stereotyping a country of 1.4 billion people and know the reality.

Note:

1) Some things in this take might sound extreme to you but that's the reality, face it.

2) The experiences/ situation I've mentioned are true (I've seen them) and I can prove if necessary and possible

3) Although the experiences are true, they do not represent a whole country but the rural as well as suburb portion

4) If you are here to rant against my country using same points, it will be ignored or removed. This mytake is to share the experience and true situations. They aren't meant to downgrade any country. I'm proud of mine, be proud of yours.

5) This is about/ close to Indian society but countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc have experienced similar things. There can be more extreme cases of different countries like N.korea, African countries etc.
