Does illiteracy frustrate you?

So many people seem to feel the need to correct people's word choice, etc. For example: They're, their, there, a lot, a lot, etc. Now obviously the readers know what the writer's intended meaning was, but proper usage seems to be more important than the intent. Why is that? Why does it bother so many people, or you? It doesn't bother me, but I like to correct people to either help them or feel better about my own grammatical skills. *Let's be honest, lol.* Opinions, statistics, whatever you've got!
