Is Trump a good President?

I consider myself a liberal. I think I'm also reasonable. So, whenever I'm wrong I admit being wrong.

First I thought Trump is not a very clever person and is only stealing from the people and not really working or working well. But looking at the raw facts, e. g. unemployment rate, do you (other liberal fellows in particular) think that Trump is a good president after all?

  • I'm neither, because dedicating yourself to either side doesn't leave much room to admit that we need a balance of both. I'm also not American, so I don't give much of a damn about the Trumpster. Considering the US president is a pretty powerful person, and no wars have started yet, he's doing a decent job of keeping the nukes to himself. Plus he's one entertaining bastard, and since his politics don't matter to me, he's definitely good for keeping me amused

@Wally48 That's my blog. I experienced it, and you will never convince me that it didn't happen.

You're basically telling me not to believe H&R Block about how much I paid in taxes.

  • I'm conservative. Good might be a stretch, but I don't think he's nearly as bad as the media makes him out to be, and he's for sure a lot better than Clinton would've been.

  • Unemployment rate is not a real proof. Take economics then you will understand. So I inserted this article to further explain , in case you flunked or missed an opportunity to take economics class in your studies.

The economy has sucked since 2008 and no one not Obama or Trump has fixed anything. Obama created many part time jobs which doesn't help unless you work 3 of them and Trump made things better for the wealthy and that doesn't help the average everyday person.

@jacquesvol That's because we got Clinton the neoliberal shifting the discourse rightward to the point a center-right candidate like Obama is falsely portrayed as a socialist.

    • 6d

@jmstarling Obama really was not anywhere near a Socialist as they made him out to be he was a very weak Socialist compared to the party these days

  • He hasn't done anything truly bad. All he does is he talks smack.
As for putting migrant children in cages, that's not a policy he created. Previous Presidents have all done this and deported thousands of migrants.

  • I think he's a good president, but some of the things he says is ridiculous. I'm not as "radical" as he is, but I'm still way closer to being conservative than liberal.

  • Trump approaches the office very differently from how people are used to seeing. He doesn't tolerate half-ass work, and won't hesitate to cut people loose if they slip up. He won't cover for anyone who doesn't want to own up to their mistakes either. It's very business-like and common sense driven rather than the typical politicking and spoils system that has been basically a constant for 200 years. This makes it appear like chaos, when really it's a shakedown, which is exactly what we needed after three extremely corrupt administrations in a row.

In terms of end-results, he is easily the most effective president we have ever had in any living person's lifetime, but he could do more to defuse the constant hate speech, even though most of it is coming from the far left. I'm confident that Trump himself is not racist, sexist, etc and really only concerned with the final results, and claims to the contrary are lies fabricated by his political enemies. There simply is zero evidence that anything about his politics is discriminatory against anyone, as long as they are legally residing in the country. He has made numerous attempts to collaborate with the Democrats for the benefit of the nation, but the party itself is bent on making him fail to make themselves look good. Some establishment Republicans are also doing the same. This leaves a highly effective executive somewhat at the mercy of a toxic legislature.

So really his biggest weakness (but also a strength) is his communication. He comes across as a hard charger, which is easy to manipulate in the news and rubs people off the wrong way if they are looking for a reason to hate him, but it also energizes his base and builds confidence, which benefits autonomous businesses and families. He also likes to voice his opinion before talking with his appointed experts which has mixed results, but at least he doesn't ever do anything official before having a sit-down because he does value the input of people with more experience in their fields.

So in summary, I would rate him very highly, Congress extremely low, the party system a disaster, and attribute all of this to having a brash business-minded president rather than a conniving lawyer at the helm.

  • Yes, i am liberal and i think he is a good president. Although i will admit i cheated by picking that option because i know the way the words are used in the poll is out of context and in my case i am a blend of both as a result as they aren't exclusive.

Trump is a corporatistic nationalist, i like the latter but dislike the former. Because of the latter he is doing a great job at making sure america is a good place for Americans. Its funny how the globalistic people who are for example Pro-Europe over here blame trump for making good trade deals that work against our own interests. I applaud him for it and wish i had a capable politician like that. He also goes by a its none of our business approach so he doesn't give in to warmongerers trying to start a war with the middle east as i am pretty sure Hillary would have invaded someone by now to "Bring the peace in Syria" or whatever. And she would never have talked the right game with North Korea so we wouldn't have seen as much progress there either. He understands a country needs to be defended from outsiders and justly wants to build better border control so that the culture and wealth can be preserved from outside forces (Armed or unarmed).

But then the corporatistic part of things, in one way that is beneficial since it did create more jobs and employment is at an all time low. The problem is there is some damage in the process, i will not forgive Trump for having had a hand in destroying net neutrality although that isn't enough for me to not support him in what he does right. That said, he does want the best for the economy itself, not just a lot of multinationals. So while he is a corporatist he isn't elitist.

And then also very important is that he is very hard to manipulate and control by the elite, which is why they want to get rid of him so badly. He doesn't give into warmongering, globalistic nonsense, he cuts deals that are not in the interest of the people such as the Paris Climate Accord or the Marakesh deal. He is surpricingly aware and informed on matter that the public has no clue about and has the guts to stick at a controversial decision even if the media tells everyone he is making mistakes.

So all and all i agree with what styxhexehammer once said about him that he has to large of an ego to not want to be remembered as one of the greatest presidents, he truly cares and he tries to do his best and in my eyes he is doing well enough.

  • He's no Abe Lincoln, but he's maybe a Herbert Hoover. Hoover gets a bad rap from history but was actually a pretty good leader. I think Trump will be the same. Half the economy is based on consumer confidence, and everyone knows that a savvy businessman isn't going to strangle the economy with regulations. Existing and being pro-business is really the only good he's done, which already makes him better than most presidents who meddle in everything.

  • I am non American so will stay outside poll but it does seem to be right down the middlle and every election or whatever seems to be pushing closer and closer towards a 50/50 - The unfortunate thing it has become you either love or hate him and what he stands for.

  • I think I agree with maybe 90% of what he wants to do but with that being said I also don't believe the president is truly the president I believe he is a fall guy because wealthy families who have been here forever are really running things. How else could a reality star become president?

  • Trump has a bachelor's degree in economics from a top university. Unlike the previous president, he was not a beneficiary of lowered admissions standards under affirmative action. Trump literally wrote the book on negotiating to get as much as one can.

Trump's greater than life, New Yorker personalty is a put off to less grating parts of the country. But he gets results.
