What Girls & Guys Said

  • I guess people liked Obama and thought he was the best president in the US because he said he wanted to improve the LGBT's rights, make the US adopt an universal healthcare system (but ended up as Obamacare instead), make the country more social-democratic like and end the Guantanamo Bay. It was mostly poor and minorities who voted on Obama.

    2|1

    • on the outside he was a very personable guy and initially it was easy to like him. healthcare was cripled by congress so became unfit for purpose just as trump is now having to downgrade his wall to a fence. both were elected as men of the people but in reality both were men of oil and arms its just we kind of expected the doublecross by trump. obama was more of a surprise to more people

    • Actually that only came later (ironically Dick Cheney (largely believed to be "evil" by the left, even more so then other conservatives) actually supported gay marriage a full decade before Obama supported it) As for the others, those things are very bad (except Guantanamo bay, which was poorly run and Obama didn't shut it down).

  • Meh. I guess B-ish defined where I was? When he was first elected I was still in highschool, a rather conservative republican and protestant Christian (went to a southern Baptist school) and I didn't like him at all, but I was also fairly ignorant of any political topics and didn't watch the news. As I got older into college I became an atheist, turned pretty lefty/ dem, and started to watch some politics but was fairly ignorant about most of it. (I was mostly embroiled in the god debates and my psychology passion). Now as I've gotten older I've moved slightly right, but consider myself more Libertarian than anything. I think his mannerisms and poise were better than President Trump's, but his policies and rhetoric did a lot of harm. He didn't take a strong stance against Russia after they invaded Ukraine, he race baited a lot of republicans (as did Biden), his support of Iran was abysmal, etc.

  • The choices on this question remind me of the clown you depict in the above picture. Are you certain you're 50? Obama had the extremely difficult task of cleaning up Dubya Bush's and Dickhead Cheney's mess. All things considered, he didn't do badly at all. Best POTUS? Nah.. but a decent one. At least when he speaks, he's intelligent, unlike the moron in the WH now, who is without a doubt, one of the worst ever.

    • You can't use the "clean up Bush/Cheney" excuse for Barack Obama. Sure, I'm that was a factor in his first three years of office, but when I saw people use the slogan "takes eight years to make a mess, it takes eight to clean a mess" during the 2012 Presidential Campaign, that's when I lost all credibility for Obama supporters.

And of course, Donald Trump might go down as the worst president of all time, but that doesn't mean Obama was remotely good.

    • @EnglishArtsteacher Please tell me you don't think a person who supports a particular candidate also champions each of their slogans? Obama had his faults, for sure, but he was much better than "remotely good". I'm not saying he was great, but he DID walk into a nuclear disaster, as in Bush/Cheney and turned a lot of things around. Trump will indeed go down as the worst ever, I'm sure, when the light of day shines on the things he didn't do, as well as the things he destroyed by what he did do.

  • Yeah it boggles my mind. I guess you just have to be completely oblivious to everything he did in order to think he was a good president (the biggest war mongering murdering, authoritarian president we have ever had with the shittiest economic policies in history. How didn't people notice).

  • Best US President of the 21st century. Although the competition is really awful, so Obama wins by default. Nobody my age or younger has been alive while a truly great president was in office. I'd say that there is good reason why Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson have memorials in DC. They were the greatest presidents in our nation's history.

  • He didn't talk about his daughter being sexy datable.
He didn't grab womens vaginas without permission.
He didn't peep on underage girls at beauty pageants.
He didn't attack the FBI, NSA and CIA.
He didn't praise the leaders of hostile foreign powers (North Korea and Russia).

I could go on but you get the idea. He may not have been great in my opinion, but it's still much better than Trump.

  • I like Obama. I don't hate him when I find out about bad things he did (drone strikes, how he addressed the flint water crisis and then allowed flint to be used as target practice without warning the residents who must of been so freaked out.). Instead of hating him I just feel sad, let down and disappointed.

  • Because he is sandwiched between Bush and Trump who are insufferable morons, anyone would come out looking great after those two. I find it less bizarre than people thinking Trump is one of the best, the guy is all talk and very little action. America will vote someone of worth someday even if it's just out of sheer probability.

    • "Because he is sandwiched between Bush and Trump who are insufferable morons, anyone would come out looking great after those two."

This is the exact conclusion I've came with. Obama supporters can always say "look what came before him, and look what came after him."

  • Some reasons Obama was a good president. He was not a compulsive liar, they changed his story every news cycle, until he could find the best story, as opposed to telling the truth. Obama didn't say he got the best talent in America to help him govern, and then have a number of them plead guilty, get found guilty, or plea deal. Trump should have said, that he got the best criminal minds in America to work for him.

It looks like Barack Obama could be arguably 20ish. I would still say he's in the 25-30ish range. I would say his biggest weaknesses were his international relations, setting an agenda, and possibly crisis leadership.

(Moral Authority cracks me up. When do any of our presidents display morals?)

    • Love my thumbs downers Obviously Enchanted Follows because who could actual like Trump without being one?

  • Even most Barack Obama supporters would have to admit he's nowhere near the best president of all time. If I had to rank him just off of the top of my head, I would say he's somewhere in the 25-30th range (out of 45 presidents). I would say he's a below average president who was lucky to be sandwiched in between two of the worst presidents of all time (George Bush Jr., and Donald Trump).

I do know one woman who legitimately thinks Obama is the best president of all time. And as you would expect, she gives literally no explanation as to why at all. She just says "he was a fine man, and the G. O. A. T."

Even if you liked Barack Obama as a president, you have to admit that calling him the "greatest president of all time" is a very bold statement. I could argue at least 20 presidents in our history were better than Obama.

    • Yeah, but the difference is that Obama made us look good while fucking up the country, and Trump, with some really undesirable traits like selling out the country even more to Israel and the Saudis, is exposing and somewhat trying to fix the shit. Would you rather date a guy who was a perfect gentleman but fucked hookers behind your back and got AIDS, or a guy who pointed out when you gained 5 pounds and told you to run more?

  • Obama and Trump share the same pitfall that either man could discover the cure to cancer and still be hated. Obama wasn't the best, but he sure as hell wasn't the worse and he didn't earn the hatred he received from the start. He did earn some shit over the course of his Presidency, similar to Trump. But so did Bush and Clinton alike.

Overall I'd say his Presidency will be largely forgettable in terms of our history, but I wouldn't argue he was on either extreme. Some good, some bad, but not great in either direction.

  • The 18-29 age bracket had a higher voter turnout for him, than any other Prez in history. They're largely the ones who believe this. Why? Natural evolution. When one's younger, they're more idealistic, they think about the way things *should* be. When one's older, they're more *realistic*... they deal with how things really are, and aim to protect what they've earned. Someone 23 wasn't around 30 years ago to be able to compare the times from their own personal experiences. They weren't around then. That's who the majority of his constituents were.

    0|0
    0|0
    • The only reason the 18-29 year old turnout was higher when Obama ran is because of the non-whites who were excited for the first minority president.

18-29 year old WHITES voted Republican against Obama.

    • That's ironic. I'm sitting now in the only city in the top 15 in populace in the country that's majority White. Home to the nation's 2nd largest University. The majority here voted for Obama. I can't go 4 hrs a day without hearing some yuppie or trophy wife from a 6 figure background talk about how "liberal they are, because I voted for Obama, so I'm not racist!" Gen X and up have balls, yes, but these millenials? White or not... soft as poundcake. They're only interested in stereotypes, "don't call me a naaaame!😣😣😣"

    • That's 1 difference between me, and most others on the board, I'm noticing. My opinions, are based on MY EXPERIENCES WHERE I'M SITTING NOW. NOT a book, NOT tv, NOT my phone, NOT a classroom. If I open my mouth, there was physical experience FIVE MINUTES AGO ON THE SIDEWALK IN PUBLIC to back it up.
