Why do judges still have to be treated like royals (e. g. have to be called Your Honor) and other officials do not have to be?

Why do judges still have to be treated like royals but other public officials do not have to be (like the police, prosecutors, doctors, senior civil servants, inspectors, etc.)?

  • A very good question, and I'm afraid that I don't know the answer; but a similar thing applies to senior priests - your holiness, your eminence, your grace, etc - and I'm sure plenty of other people. In fact it even applies to me as a teacher, although being called Miss isn't quite as grand-sounding as Your Honour!
