There was nothing about the Obama presidency that really makes one nostalgic for it. Indeed, the irony is that, whatever his personal popularity among Democrats, they actually should have little desire to renew his presidency either.Fun fact: By the time Mr. Obama left office, 77% of all partisan elective offices across the Federal, state and local levels were in Republican hands. Whatever his charisma among partisan Democrats, it did not translate into votes. Mr. Obama's presidency left the Democratic party a shambles and at a post-WWII low in terms of the number of elective offices it held.It also set the stage for the Trump presidency. The irony is that the assumption was that because Mr. Obama was the nation's first African-American President, that he would be a unifying force in terms of race relations and the culture generally. In terms of the latter, Mr. Obama's condescension - "clinging to guns and religion" - infuriated what had previously been a core constituency of the Democratic coalition, i. e., blue collar and lower middle income workers. At a time when the economy was transitioning from an manufacturing/extractions base to a service/high tech base, thereby putting pressure on that aforementioned demographic, Mr. Obama's dismissiveness of their concerns and culture drove them into the waiting arms of Mr. Trump. (Over 400 counties that had twice voted for Mr. Obama switched to Mr. Trump.)Secondly, Mr. Obama was similarly tone deaf on race relations. Not for nothing did the nation's current spate of racial tensions begin on his watch. Ferguson, the ill-fated "beer summit" and all the rest. Mr. Obama did not make any real efforts to have each side understand the other and thus racial tensions festered during his term even as he allegedly embodied the post-racial era in American politics. In policy terms, Obama was unremarkable, failing to really break with the dominant Reaganite consensus that, ironically, Mr. Trump seems to be bringing to an end. This is best seen in Obamacare. Mr. Obama's biggest legislative accomplishment, Obamacare was not what he wanted - a national health care system. It was watered down, but then he could not even get - this out of a Democratically controlled Congress - "the government option." It then passed but was wildly unpopular - costing the Democrats their previously mentioned majority - until the GOP eliminated the government mandate, thereby further watering the law down. Only at that point did Obamacare become popular. After that, Mr. Obama's accomplishments are pretty thin on the ground. Indeed, a study by CRS found that Mr. Obama ranks toward the bottom of post-WWII Presidents in terms of his ability to get legislation through Congress. Ahead of only George H. W. Bush, Carter and Ford.In terms of foreign policy, Mr. Obama was shallow and feckless. The assassination of Osama bin Laden was something any President would have done and, in any case, was more cathartic than strategically consequential. The Iran deal so full of holes - not requiring inspection of Iranian military facilities, among other things - that Tehran had no trouble conforming to it. Beyond that, there were no accomplishments to speak of. In terms of the economy, it grew under Mr. Obama, but well below historic norms. Indeed, Mr. Obama famously said that the nation would have to get used to 2% or less growth. The economy then grew 3% in the early part of the Trump presidency. (Note: I am no fan of Mr. Trump. I merely relay the data.)Add it all up, and Mr. Obama was merely one in a line of largely inconsequential presidencies than began with Mr. Clinton's. He was a mediocre figure who was less than the sum of his parts and who did not fundamentally change the country in any positive way and, indeed, was on balance, a net subtraction in terms of fostering better race relations. In short, Obama's reputation far exceeds the reality of his time in the WH.
Worse president in history I think. If he had done nothing the country and every other country for that matter, would have been better off. He worsened racial tensions in the US (based upon multiple surveys) despite being the first black president, he lied about many different things from his position of supporting clean coal (and then once in office did everything he could to dismantle the coal industry (while hampering nuclear as well)) to blaming a youtube video for Benghazi because he didn't want to look bad for having inadvertently creating ISIS during his second term election bid. He attacked the media and whistle blowers more aggressively then any other president (I believe it was 37 different journalists groups had protested his treatment of journalists and their sources. He used the Espionage act to go after whistleblowers (it had been used 11 times since 1949, seven of those where from Obama). One of his most notable was Edward Snowden who showed to the American people and (supposedly) congress that the NSA was spying on us and violating our rights (i. e. they where a breaking the law in a very big way turning us slowly into a police state). He should have been rewarded for that instead he was forced to flee the country.) He also spent tens of millions of dollars to suppress information that would have been released to the public through the freedom of information act. He was the only president in history to have less then 3% GDP and he told us that this was simply the way things are and we had to accept that rather then actually fix the problem, only president in history to be at war for all 8 years of his presidency. He bombed 8 different nations while in office who where not a real threat to us, is the only nobel prize winner (so far I can't find out exactly what he did to win that prize) to have ordered the killing of other nobel prize winners (a group of doctors who worked in war torn areas. They repeatedly issued an appeal to Obama saying the hospital they where in had sick and wounded and to not bomb it because they couldn't move all the patients out in time and they couldn't abandon them. He had the facility blown up anyway.). He spied on his political opponents (and not just Trump, their is a fair bit of evidence showing he spied then leaked a phone call a democratic senator made to Ghadafi because the senator while not a fan of Libya was very anti war. The phone call was leaked to the press I believe while the senator was up for reelection.). He circumvented congress routinely (for instance the Iran Nuclear deal was not legal, the president doesn't have the power to make treaties only congress does) and he also used a massive amount of executive orders and memerandums (memorandums are not tracked but have the same function as executive orders) to circumvent congress as well. He also claimed that man made climate change was real and in order to prove that point he made sure that no counter research (research that may prove otherwise) would be funded thus ensuring that the research would never be able to be done to begin with. He cut NASA's budget, then he basically forced them to focus on climate change instead of their actual job of space research and exploration. The list goes on. He was as far as I can tell the worse president in the entire history of our nation, destroying our culture, economy, unity, our image to the rest of the world and demonized US the American people while he did it.
I try not to.He was a liar from day 1 (i know, shocking for politicians)But the worst part of him was the hope he gave people at the start. He had no intention of following through on anything. He made most things worse than before. But the hope. When it was crushed... man. That hurt.I voted for him the 1st time, but sure as hell not the 2nd.
Yeah, I agree with that. I did the same thing, I voted for him the first time hoping he would go in a different direction, instead he just scammed all of us. Now the more I find out the more I hate him (and I didn't like him all that much before after he back tracked on everything he said and escalated tension and destroyed the economy). I do agree, he gave people hope and that just let him smash them down even further when he revealed who he really was.
He’s handsome. Nice brown skin. Never had a scandal. Very respectful towards his wife. Intelligent. A father. An inspiration. I was in school when he got elected and the whole school celebrated. Many people never thought they would see a black man become president.
Never had a scandal? You weren't paying attention too much.
@WTFever name one !
Fast and Furious.
This may not be a scandal. But he got a nobel peace prize and then ordered drone strikes. He didn't end any conflicts he escalated them.
@grega239 oh lord 😂. Y’all stay reaching. I can give you 5 scandals from the pussy grabber
So I'm reaching by pointing out that Obama is a war criminal?Go ahead
@grega239 a criminal how? 😂
He Got the us involved in another illegal war (Syria) and order drone strikes in other middle eastern countries that the us illegals declared war on.He was the commander in chief. It's the highest military rank. That's how.
@grega239 you are too funny
Don't see how that's funny
I mean is it a requirement for American presidents to be war criminals
I thought that Bill Clinton was the first black President?
And I thought DJT was The Second Coming of God, King of Israel, and Emperor for Life of Trumpland (formerly known as Greenland)
@Guardian45 I have never heard him referred to by any of those terms except by his detractors who are being sarcastic. I have heard Bill Clinton referred to by his supporters as the first "black" president.
African American? He's the first mixed race president. If someone is 1/2 white and 1/2 black, does that make them African American or English American w black accents? If he was born in Hawaii but spent some time in Africa, what does that make him. Sorry... I get peeved when people use race, including me:) You find me a pure race anyone. He was an American as he was born in Hawaii.Very smart... ripped off the most people in history with help of Bernanke and congress criminals and banksters. Note: that's because the bigger the fraud goes, it is bigger at the top of the bubble. Managed us out of the mess created by others to a bigger mess, came out smelling like a rose due to...$14 trillion of debt created. Was involved in several proxy wars against Russia including middle east collapse and distribution, syria, Ukraine. Had a mess going on in syria. Lied about ending war in Afghanistan... i forgive him, it's all political posturing, he didn't start it. High number of military suicides under his watch, he owns that along with poor VA services at the time. Great orator and stature. Stole $100m from treasury I suspect... or should I say borrowed at 0%, whatever. You don't make $40 million (after taxes) so easy folks. Proud of him for stopping smoking, that crap will kill ya! So will dropping bombs in syria.p. s. George Washington was the first African English American President. Given that all humans likely originated from Africa given fossil record. Am I wrong?
Nice enough guy, but a terrible president. His election should have been a unifying period for the country, which was starting to reignite long dormant lines of division toward the end of Bush's presidency. Instead, he ended up becoming one of the most divisive presidents the USA has ever had, his handling of the military was atrociously bad, and really the only thing he managed to "accomplish" during the two years of basically free reign that his party had after his election was a seriously flawed healthcare reform that is designed to fail and lead toward single-payer socialized medicine. The country was unquestionably weaker on the world stage when he left than when he entered too, so can't really give him any points in foreign policy either. One thing that I will give him a lot of credit for, was that he was actually considerably tougher on border security than Bush, and there's not really anything Trump has supported that Obama didn't previously support, despite media spin to the contrary.
He was FAR from worst, and certainly not "best", but considering he inherited the equivalent of an "economic nuclear disaster" thanks to W. Bush, he did a great job turning things around. At least he wasn't a fucking idiot when he spoke and you could point to the President and say he's a smart man, whether you agreed with him or not. What I didn't like was how secretive he was about certain programs and actions, but he did something about getting health care to people who needed it most, at little or no cost to them. Sure it has bugs, but Moscow Mitch and the Repubs have nothing better to offer and won't even work to fix it. Typical. By far, Buchanan, Jackson, A. Johnson, Pierce, and Hoover were much worse, and Trump is already in that bottom dwelling group. Virtually EVERY economic success that Trump claims is HIS, was started in the Obama era.
First, he was as "white" as he was "black"- mulatto. As late as 2007, he stated that he was born in Kenya, making him ineligible to be a United States President. 16 months before he announced that he was going to run for president, he repeatedly stated that he had "no interest" in running for president. So, we really knew he was a liar from the get go.There WAS one thing however that he was honest about. As he was busy overhauling Obamacare with the "Affordable" Health Care Act, he claimed that it would not cost "one dime more" than I currently paid. That was correct. It now costs me almost $2,000 more and THAT- my friends- is definitely NOT a dime!
Right , if you said a multi race and you say black , you were a racist , and should be executed , but win Democrats say it, it is all good
Almost all of our presidents elected have been closely related including Obama. All freemasons. Can't you see it doesn't matter who these clowns are they are just puppets to point a finger at? Dez nuts should have been elected he had majority of the people's votes.
Charming, intelligent, healthy sense of humor, and a great communicator. I didn't always agree with him or approve of his actions (like PRISM, which would have cost him my vote had he been eligible to run again) but he had a gift for bringing people together--at least, for as long as it took to get himself elected. Unfortunately, there was only so much Obama could do. He was very open about the fact that the people would have to make personal sacrifices to become a more perfect union, and nobody wanted to face that, let alone practice it. Much easier to just elect a guy who promises that all we have to do is vote for him and he'll fix everything.
He was a Christian turned Muslim. He went on an apology tour for our nation. He bowed to a Saudi king (our president does not bow to no man or woman.)He destroyed the economy. He divided America.Won a nobel peace prize FOR WHAT?WORST PRESIDENT IN American HISTORY!!
jiffy: You have really swallowed the far right wing nut. 1. Obama has never been a Muslim, except in the eyes of the right wing conspiracy theorists, who don't know what they are talking about. I can say Trump is an alien. Does that make it true too? 2. Obama did NOT destroy the economy. He inherited a very bad economy from Bush, the worst since the great depression. Obama brought life back into our economy. Obama has eight full years of improving economy. It's amazing how right wing nuts refuse to see facts. 3. Obama did not divide America. Americas who were prejudiced, racists, and believed in fool conspiracy theories pulled away and divided America. They could not sand a black president. 4. And your ignorance even thinks Trump was worse than James Buchanan, who let our country slide into the civil war, costing 750,000 deaths. Right wing nuts will say and believe anything, no matter how untrue, and they stand their ground with great ignorance.
But he did turn muslim and he did destroy the economy
@star43able : Are you nuts or something? That's just baseless fantasy. Obama is a christian, and never has been a Muslim. And the economy improved every year under Obama, and that was very good, considering he inherited a very bad economy from Bush. Geesh! Get some real facts, and get out of your hole in the ground right wing bunker.
Your just a left wing person who can't face the facts
@star43able star: I'm sorry, but you are so deluded it's ridiculous. It's people like you, who seemingly have no connection to real facts, that make me understand how Trump gets support. I can hardly believe the degree of ignorance and blindness. No wonder Trump has such solid backers.
I desperately miss his integrity. Intelligence and vision, three qualities that many Americans despise now. This country did not deserve such a gifted statesman. I’m inclined to think that we have sunk to such a moral and intellectual abyss that we actually deserve our septic tank president.
I think Barack Obama did a lot of really good things - being the first black president and presiding over the economic recovery after the Recession are examples. However, he also showed us that the so-called Third Way doesn't really work. Despite the incessant drone of know-nothings chanting "Socialism!", he made too many compromises for most of us, and worked us into policy positions that aren't tenable for anybody (regardless of what side of the aisle you come down on).
He wasn't bad, sure most of his policies were bad and just didn't work but I would say the deck was stacked against him, being elected during the recession, it was going to be a uphill battle.Plus at least with him, I didn't have to worry about him twitting all the time
Half black, half white.Pretty good guy, thoughtful. He was definitely President during some trying times.
A decent, honest, man who didn't understand the scorched-earth policy that was being used against him. He foolishly thought that proposing Republican policies would result in Republican support. He should, for example, have had Joe Lieberman removed from all committees for not supporting him; that one vote cost them medicare for all.
Not a fan. But I guess he was a decent president. Not remotely near the best, but also very far from the worst. He did some things I fundamentally disagree with, but he did well with economy, healthcare and some bits and pieces of foreign policy.
Thankfully he is a past president. President Donald John Trump is 1000% better. While President Trump might not be an amazing person, he only wants to help the USA. Barack Hussian Obama only want to enrich himself and his friends, while looking to fleece the country. DJT 45 is slowing turning around the economy that BHO attempted to sink. Creating jobs for all, that BHO sent abroad. Lowering taxes for all , that BHO raised.
Welcome to UpsideDown World! Where what was right, is now wrong. And where what is now considered 'right' is fact CR*P!
I don't agree with him on many things politically and he was about average for a president, nothing spectacular. Politics aside, he seems like a cool guy who might be fun to hang out with though.
wasn't he the guy who brought in powers for the president to designate anyone as an enemy of the state and claim the right to hold anyone indefinitely without charge, including us citizens?Pretty sure he was..
Also Obama was the 43rd president, but you people can't count.
The bottom picture looks the the cat that ate the canary! If the right would have acted like the left does now, during his reign, I am sure he would still be president account of declaring Martial Law.
I did not always agree with his policies, but I respected him as a man and as someone who genuinely tried to do the right thing. NO politician on either side does so anymore.
He was decent I didn't like him he ok job not terrible he just fixed what the last president didn't do. He could have did a lot more. But to be honest all the presents have been trash
Terrible president, fantastic family man (as far as we know)
He seems like a nice enough guy.I hated most of his policies.
There is no democracy in America and in fact he was elected by the corporate world run by crazy people so he is no different than other guys.
As a person I think he was a nice guy and was doing what he thought was best for the country. But I disagreed with most of his policies and thought they were wrong for the country.
I don't know too much about his policies because I'm in Canada so I don't bother to research what he is doing - but I liked his personality - he was humble and honest and relatable.
I loved him.Classy guy.Sadly, couldn't accomplish as much as he wanted or needed. After all, so a certain ilk in our society, we "can't have a n*gger in the White House !".
I absolutely adore him. I think I even had a sex dream about him once. He is intelligent, witty, charming, and fun. And I will always stand by that. (And Michelle is wonderful too.)
A premier statesman of singular intellect. Led with a measured hand. Unbelievably patient. We may not have his like again in the Oval Office for quite a while, sadly, given how quickly people are devolving in America.
he racked up more debt that any other president in history and got one of the lowest economic growth in the last hundred years. He also did a deal with Iran where the USA paid large amounts of money and Iran still has the USA's prisoners. I am not pro USA or Iran its just a stupid deal. He was a disaster and idiots voted him the most admired person of all time. Not to mention his criminal past.People who like him are idiots.
His terms as Presedent is proof of just how racist "I'm SO not racist" people actually are.
you mean sexist?
People didn't vote for him because it would be such a great advancement for men to have a man in office.
john mccain was dying so it was really palin that you didn't vote for
I voted for McCain in that election, but I don't pay attention to hype. I could tell that President Obama didn't have a plan, he was just letting himself be pulled in every direction and he never got anywhere, if you actually paid attention to the election it was pretty apparent that's what was going to happen. But the media kept hyping how great it would be for equality if we elected a black man as president, the paid almost zero attention to his actual policies and plans what happens after he's elected.Voting for a person based solely upon the color of his skin is, by definition, racist.
i think it could go either way since it was the first time a female ran as vice president. i don't think it's racist. a black man won the first time running.
But it was racist to vote for him based solely upon the color of his skin.
if it was solely on his skin color then yes.
The whole time during that election I kept hearing about how great it would be for equality and how much for an advancement would be for African Americans to get a black man in office. People would often go so far as to openly accuse people who chose to vote against Obama as being racist. If they were truly tolerant, the color of his skin would never have come up during that election. If people voted for him, it should have been because agreed with his policies and his political agenda, not because they wanted to see it black man be president.
you really have to stop watching the biased part of the news. the news in general isn't factual, but you should know by now that there is an agenda coming through the news.
A democratic one.
it's far deeper than that
We're digressing, all I'm saying is racism isn't always negative.
i agree. and once america wakes up and realizes who runs the media they'll know what is going on.
Fat chance of that happening, people instinctually like being part of a crowd, and crowds tend to follow the loudest voice.
we're stuck. we'll never evolve if you believe that.
I'm not saying people can't change, just that this is what I've observed to be true.
your truth is sound. i think if we're given shit choices and have to choose... we're going to have to choose the shit no matter what. i think america realized that in that election.
He lit the country on fire with hate and division in order to get elected to a second term. Identity politics.
"He lit the country on fire with hate and division"In a sense, you're right. It lit a fire in part of the country - that part of the country that's used to lighting fires... Fires like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gqP5JtU7sMCan't have a n*gger in the White House, right?Have to do something.Fucking Southerners. After the Civil War, we should have just killed all the males.
@abc3643 Obama doesn’t get a pass because of the race card... he knew what he was doing. Obama gave us this mess, we were in a much better place with race relations before him which is also why he was elected in the first place.
Oh, and I seriously gave consideration to voting for him in 2008. I almost did but there were issues that I didn’t support. I was one of the large percentage of people in the polling who were happy and supportive of him in the first year. Fuck you and the race card.
A very smart mouth person, and charismatic. unlike Trump. But they're both full of shit politically destabilizing regions , and waging wars.
I voted for him once. Because I thought he’d be more of a Clinton style democrat. I was wrong and now feel like he was bad for the country.
A wolf in sheeps clothing. Great at displaying himself in public. But as a president he wasn't great.
I wasn't really a fan but I got great healthcare because of him so he wasn't all bad
I think he's a putz. Another nickel that thinks he's a buck.
I. Wouldn't say he was a bad president by any means. He wasn't a stand out one either in my opinion. Just average. I think he unfairly catches a lot of scrap just because he's black though.
Dronebama was a terrible president who did not serve the people. Things like government surveillance and drone bombings are why i would rate him a 1 out of 10.
Worst president everhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UpiNiaak18
Well, I wouldn't call him African-American...I read one of his books and I liked it. It changed the way I see him. He's one of those famous people that I would like to meet.
I think he was the worst president ever. He did nothing for the United States 🇺🇸 except make it worse than it already was.
He didn't really do much in my opinion, only thing I think he'll be remembered for is being the first black president.
Wasn't a fan of him or his policies. And yet he had the same kind of Fucktardation that all Presidents have.
Obama was a much better president than Trump. I can hardly believe, we had such an intelligent, dignified president, followed by a lying buffoon.
Brainwashed much dude?Keep watching the mainstream media that will help.Numbers don't lie dude.Gdp under Obama 1.8 after 8 years. Gdp under Trump after 2 years 3.5.He cut 2 industrial sized skids of regulations. And made a law that if you make a new regulation you have to get rid of 2 old ones.Trump opened up the American oil wells also. You know that gas you put in your car? That's American gas buddy. No more dependance on over seas oil!!Taxes were cut.Companies are returning to the United States after NAFTA depleted them. The thing people don't like about Trump is simply the mainstream media hates him just like the far left.He can't be bought. He can't be blackmailed. He can't be threatened. He can't be bribed. He's not under anyones control but the American peoples control.Besides the people who hate him are just listening to the news and repeating what's said on the news.Does anyone know him personally? Can't you make that choice to hate him when you don't even know him?
@jiffy1971 : Jiffy, and you conveniently ignore, that Obama started with the economy crashing when he took over from Bush, and he had to bring the economy back from Bush's worst recession since 1929. And you also ignore that Trump inherited a good, expanding and growing economy from Obama. As you say, number don't lie. Obama did more for the economy that Trump did, as Obama saved the economy and brought it back from the brink of a depression. So keep on believing your right wing propaganda. The rest of the world who can actually look at things as they are, and don't need their own made to order news, know what really happened.
To me he is one of the best president's to ever step foot into office
What about THE GREAT LIE? You know “you can keep your doctor?”
he's going to go down in history as one of the worst presidents ever.
I'm just waiting for his faggotry to come out of the closet.
I never heard any complaints from Michelle.
@MoscowMitch Yeah, Michael Obama has been quite a dude... err... I mean female for him. But yeah... he's pro tranny for sure... probably for a reason. Just google the conspiracies on it, then pull up her pic, stare at it... then ask yourself if you'd fuck that dude... err... I'm mean woman of color. lolz
I don't google imbecilic shit.
If you're not sure what imbecilic means, it means you.
@MoscowMitch awwee resorting to name calling because my tongue in cheek remark burned just that bad... whatever, you must be a far lefty woke guy, and it's simply just too easy to offend you.
Will probably be considered the last president with some semblance of integrity for a long while.
He’s not black. He’s biracial. it took a White woman to put the first president of color in the White House
He was ok. Which is really all you can be as a president these days. Society couldn't handle any drastic changes
The guy can charm a snake off its last skin. Also one of the best orator I have ever seen.
Overrated , liberal, socialist, that ruined the health care industry , with big ears
I liked him but was a bit disappointed even though I realize in hindsight he didn't have absolute power.
I blame him for the current animosity in the country not trump Obama started the fire
A bit of a game changer but didn't really get time to change the game
Absolutely the worst WhiteHouse occupier in USA history.Lighting up the WhiteHouse in an LGBT rainbow? Nothing has ever made me angrier.
"It's the economy, stupid" ?NO!! It's the MORALITY!!! THAT is what should matter the most!!!
While I dont agree with his policies I think he seems like a decent person.
He was our most wicked president and he was Muslim and he did a terrible job for 8 years.
Some was very good, some very bad.
