Yes and no. It's what drives the world's economy and it helped raise us technologically to where we are now but now materialism like war is now a liability that humanity must evolve beyond before we doom ourselves if we haven't already. What made America the greatest nation in the world and allowed us to thrive over our Neanderthal cousins even though they were better adapted physically to northern climates was human cooperation and trade.
In excess, yes it is. In moderation, it can get people to strive to improve themselves.
I wanna be like swole
There’s only one of me phaggot
It's OK to a certain and self controlled extend and you actually use or gift it what you buy. It's not OK when it turns into something like getting a new iphone literally after each release.
Not really. You can see how stupid hippies talk about capitalism, consumerism and materialism and the real life means living in the wild to "find yourself". And what do you do when you live in some isolated place away from civilisation and consumerism? From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep you struggle to satisfy your materialistic needs. But hippies think they can chill all day on the grass, reading poetry and singing Tibetan psalms.
Everyone is materialistic to a degree, we all enjoy having our things. Problems arise when that’s all a person cares about. So long as it’s under control materialism can be part of a well adjusted persons life.
There are benefits. But also downsides. Being overly materialistic can be really bad
I think so yeah. Not as a value for individuals, but as a cultural thing. People get angry because they get the wrong gift, people are ungrateful, parents feel guilty by advertising for not buying their kids new things all the time.
It's ok but it depend on the level of it. Over materialism where you want to own everything and is never satisfied with what you have is bad but wanting to get news stuff from time to time is ok.
The desire to have new things and better things drives innovation and technological advancement. It's not all good, but overall it's a benefit to society.
Okay, so how is gold useful to society.Gold really only has a couple of non irrationally materialistic uses and even then copper does its job better for the most part
This is also why when people suggest you buy gold in case of societal collapse, they are insane because gold would end up being worthless because it has almost no practical use
@Waffles731 It appears gold is more valuable than you're giving it creditgeology.com/minerals/gold/uses-of-gold.shtml
Huh, so it has more electonic uses. But let's be realistic if we valued metals by instead of how shiny and pretty they and instead by how useful they are, it wouldn't be gold and platinum we all talk about as the most valuable It would be Iron and Copper. Also I imagine killing a werewolf would be significantly cheaper 😂
Yes , i could never be with a Woman whose Materialistic.
Yes, all the great things of this world are not material, love, accomplishment, meaning, spirituality, peace of mind with ourselves, beauty
It's great! I'm a material man in a material world.
Depends on levels of excess. If you rack up huge debts doing it then I would say that it's pretty bad.
It is a good thing for capitalism
Only for people who don't have money.
Its the source of most evil
Nope. I'm materialistic.
Its very bad. Materialism is the worst.
