Why do Americans take their "Irish" roots seriously, when none of them have any Irish bones in their bodies?

Americans are English and Welsh. America was actually founded by and named after a Welsh guy.

Boston, a so-called "Irish" city, is in fact an English city. It's in New England NOT New Ireland. They didn't call it the former for nothing.

If anything, Canadians should celebrate their Irishness, as the white Canadians tend to be French, Scottish AND Irish.
