With death penalty cancelled in some countries, will life sentences be seen as too harsh in the next couple of years?

Amber Guyger's case inspired me to ask this, since she murdered a man in his house after intrusion and according to some sources, and according to Texas law, she'll be given a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Now I'm not sure if that information is correct, if it isn't true and she was given life in prison, hypothesize with me here.
Could we be heading towards a world which sympathizes with murderers because they're now also special snowflakes who deserve second or even third chances?
