India is somewhat on track to be a major world power. They were at one point expected to overtake China by 2020 but that seems unlikely now, and would more likely be around 2025-2030. This is largely because the country's population is offsetting the fact India is run like a third world country despite it's economic capability. If they could get their act together, they could easily compete more directly with China. World trade in particular is an area where they are severely lacking compared to the US and China, and their business policies aren't really cutthroat enough to compete. Additionally, much of India's "best and brightest" permanently leave the country to go live in either the US, Europe or Canada rather than staying in India, which definitely hasn't helped their country.
US isn't our neighbor. We tried to establish decent relations with the US and the US has always rejected it by shitting by our doorstep. So nothing from our side on this matter.

Indians are too disorganized and not ethnically homogeneous, they can never be a super power. They only have power because of demographics.
