What's immoral is fairly fluid given religion, culture, era your living, etc. What was acceptable 100 years ago beating your wife and children, extremely dangerous working situations are not acceptable now. What I think has changed is people's awareness. Before the radio, TV, and now the internet most of what you saw of the world was from what you saw in your own community. Now we are aware of crimes from 100s of miles away. It's possible to look up every murder in just about any area. With that much information constantly coming at us I believe we percieve that there is more immoral behavior happening. Things that you weren't arrested for before now you are, so it looks like more crime. It's not that it didn't happen it's not we didn't know about it.
I believe we are as a soceity becoming more willing to virtue signal and to seem like we are moral decent people but at the back of it we will crush another as long as we don't have to look them in the eyes as we do it. I worked in an elderly home years ago and the amount of people that put their parents in after the signed over their power of attorney, money and home was shocking espicially the ones that weren't senile and were promised they could live out their days at home. Kids often didn't even visit their kids.
As appalling as I find this and I do at least people have some care. As late as the 1950s it was social acceptable to lock mental ill or disabled family members in a room, attic, or basement so they weren't out in society. There were no real ways to report elder abuse so there is no way to know really how the majority of elderly were treated. We like to think that they were treasured and treated well. But given the fact that rape in a martial relationship was still legal in the 1980s and we are not many years away from when it was ok to beat children how do we really know that. The elderly had no real resource to call for help, or report abuse. I don't think how we treat the elderly now is good at all but other than ancidotal evidence, fictional stories, and rememberences how do we really know?
I think those types feel guilty afterwards, but don't confront their guilt properly and often turn to vices and mindless entertainment to distract themselves from their guilt, which then makes them more guilty, and the cycle repeats. So no, I don't think they're becoming immoral, but I do think the attitude of "it's okay to make mistakes" has become too common and has created lots of people who don't try to avoid making mistakes and defend their bad decisions with bad logic like "I was young" or "I was drunk" or "I was tricked/taken advantage of" or "I didn't mean to" or something similar. It's a shame and a waste of potential, really.
No, I just think that with the information age and the ease of communication we have nowadays, that even a minority of bad apples can have a huge voice and effect many more people, I think that's the only real change, plenty of normal good hearted people out there, just not very vocal.
Moral in reference to what standards? Religions of the world? Then yes people are becoming less "immoral" or are just realizing that religion doesn't dictate who is good and bad. Like If you have a lot of premarital sex and then also volunteer a lot I would consider you morally good.Premarital sex was only an issue because nobility would have illegitimate children and "dirty" the bloodline, it's just not a problem anymore because there are no real nobility anymore.
I think that people have ways been "immoral". I think that mamy things used to be shunned and kicked under the rug, but now with the internet people all have a soapbox and even really shitty people will find validation for their crappyniess by other crappy people. There is less shame about it because you know you are not the only one and you actually might get supporters for being that way.
No, for two reasons. One being morality is subjective and as times change so to do our morals. Remember at one point in time it was considered moral to own another human being. And two even people back then were not living up to their own moral standards. The amount of sex, drug use and all manner of what they considered immoral was just as rampant back in the day it was just swept under the rug.
Eehhh. Not really, not by my standards anyways. Gender/racial equality, sensitivity to people unlike oneself, sex positivity, religious tolerance- all these things seem to be increasing, and I think they're all good things. The only thing I see as developing negatively is that people seem to be more individualistic, and so there's less community support networks and general community oriented morality.
Society is much more moral today if you compare it to past generations, we can put up with much more , past gen had tons of racism, before that the generation beforehand had 2 world wars, you can go tracing back when people got exacuted just for being different, etc...
They are and do you know why? Its because they allowed hate to grow inside them, all the violent crimes, all the racism and discrimination, all the wars, all the hurtful things they say to break other human beings, all are fueled by pure hate. I wish I could find a country that is peaceful. But the world is falling apart. Politics are poison.
Most people think casual sexual relationships are normal50% of people think abortion is coolPeople disrespect their parents and elderlyPeople are more prideful than ever Immorality is on the rise. Martin Luther initiated the Kali Yuga. This is all to be expected
Unfortunately yes. Everyday I see it with my own eyes and hear it in peoples voices society is getting worse not better and mankind doesn't deserve to live anymore or have the precious gift of life God gave them
Morality changes over time, the older you get the more you notice.
I think the religious and economic conservatives inflicts constant moral wounds to induce a general state of sociopathy, if that's what you mean.
Immorality abounds more than ever. The "I deserve to be happy" phenomenon seems to have paved the way for ever progressingly worse immorality and poor ethical behaviour.
I have to say @BeHappy19i5 is right, the concept of morality only exists because humans came up with a concept of good and bad, humans in general would only be raised to survive no matter what.
Buddihism Monk? That's for pussies. And that's why Tibet is a conquered state.
Not really. Morals are a very technical philosophical thing that most people do not bother with at all. I do not think that the number that actually think about it has decreased in a long time
More immoral than ever. People flash their skin and don't think twice. You have 13 year old booty hopping on webcams for people in their 20s. They don't care about decency. It's usually the sexual morality that is falling the most but other immoral things are on the rise too. Less people are compassionate when others are hurting and struggling and people are more revenge driven now than ever before in history and I don't think it'll change for the better ever again.
Yes but in 1890 13 year old girls were basically sold although they were often married they were just used for sex and breeding purposes. Prostitution was one of the only jobs that actually made a woman enough money to survive but put her in physical danger. So are webcams not great in some cases? Of course. But there are far more protections in place than ever before.
Not more immoral just more open about it. If you look in the Bible or other times in history you'll see many examples of human immorality and just look at how many wars have happened in the last 100 years. We are sort of a mess most of the time.
Not in general, but most companies work with immoral principles... over long therm, most people learned they get something from being immoral...
we have new morals now. i it earns you more money, it's right to do. it's not a good moral but it is one.
Unless your in Asia , Buddhist monks have always been rare. People are no less moral or immoral then have ever been.
Yes people no longer have descent morals and have no regard for their fellow man or have an appreciation of human life.
Yes, I hear the statement "it's legal so there's nothing wrong with it" more times than I can count...Seem we just want to get it even at the cost of others.
No, they are immoral to begin with anyways. Society just reinforces it.
Yes we see the plenty of fish in the sea but are blind to the meant venomous snakes in the grass
Yes there is definitely overall moral decay in the world today vs generations ago
People have been 'immoral' since we gained sentience.
Amoral maybe... which is not necessarily a bad thing.
People have long since in general fallen off immoral and landed on degenerating demoralized subhuman disappointments
Who says that Buddhist monks are morally? Do they keep the Ten Commandments?
Yes I believe so very much! It's sad.. Society is changing so rapidly in a bad way!
Yes but I feel like people are realizing and it's shifting back
Don't you love the hypocrites of the religious right. Preach morality and vote for trump SMH
No I'm virtually a saint
No. I think people were already immoral in the past.
In small ways yes but violent crimes are decreasing world wide.
Actually there are still a lot of monks lol
Morality does seem to less and less.
They have been and always will be.
Can Buddhist monks have sex?
But if someone thinks that sex is the end all and be all then i suppose people are in error... True error!
It is fun
Fun is good. But there are far more important things to do... and learn!
Learning is important
But people dont even know the basics of how to treat others... Im not agianst sex but, morality comes first. Talking immorally to others. Abusing other people's religions, saying bad things about what other people hold dear unto themselves, not caring about how would others feel based on ones actions (may they be intended towards them or not) is immorality of the highest order!
Because you haven’t met me yet.
Thank God. Monks suck. 🤣
When weren't people immoral? Tell me that.
It's not something in human history.
New in*Just a phase.
Most people are are idiots not immoral
welcome to the dark side, we've been expecting you
they always have been
No i like degenerate shit hot hah
no. They are getting better.
Yes I do
First of all being immoral is subjective, it isn't based on truth but on perspective. Where you come from, what your religion is, etc. What might be immoral for you can be perfectly normal for someone else and vice versa. Also people are just people, they have never been anything more or less. Human behaviour has been pretty much the same for thousands of years. Some are nice, others not so much. Some cherish life others take it away etc. etc.
Religion or social background is not talked about here. Im talking about the basic human instinct. For example Lying is a bad act whether you are a christian or a jew or a Muslim or an atheist doesn't matter. Murder is immorality (unless its done in self defence). Humiliating others is a bad deed regardless of your religion. Abusing other people's beliefs is a bad thing regardless of your religion. Sleeping with another person (who isn't your spouse (Adultry)) is a bad deed regardless of your religion, honouring and respecting your parents and not throwing them in old homes is a bad deed... But people lack in these departments also...
*good deed (for the parents part sorry lol)
You're wrong about most of the things you wrote. Religion and social background is the basis of morality. Basic human instinct is to survive. Some lie to conceal reward or benefit, others to protect someone from har, for self-protection, to mantain privacy, to avoid embarrassment, to be polite. You're perspective is that lying is bad, mine is that it isn't always. Humiliating others? Yeah, not a snowflake here, when someone is fat I'll tell them they're fat not "plus size" or big "bonned", this is the truth from my perspective, so by your standards it should be a good thing, but this also is debatable. Murder also isn't immoral, for many its just a job. Telling people that they have imaginary friends is also something that isn't wrong. They are wrong believing nonsense written by a bunch of guys who didn't even know where the sun went at night. What I do is bring truth to them, which you also see as wrong. But it isn't. Polygamy has been a thing for ages, it exists as long as humans do, and its tens of thousands of years not 3-4 thousand like the bible tells you. Not all parants are nice people, not all deserve to be honoured. All of it is a matter of perspective and yours isn't even close to mine.
History also shows that that has been a lot of "evil" going back in the day, things got a lot more chill if you ask me. The Christians aren't raiding Europe and killing everyone who is one of them, the Germans aren't hunting down the Jews. Genghis Khan also wasn't messing around, nor was Stalin.. Having big orgies was perfectly normal all throughout the Roman empire. etc. etc. etc...
Another example of my point of view that everything is a matter of perspective when it comes to what moral and what isn't "Age of consent laws vary considerably around the world, although a majority of countries require young people to be over the age of 14 before having sex. Of the countries with lower age of consent laws, Nigeria has the lowest at just 11. This is followed by Angola and the Philippines at 12, and several other countries, including South Korea and Japan at 13 (although Japan has notoriously consent laws that vary in different parts of the country).Additionally, a number of countries in Asia and Africa require individuals to be married before they can legally have sex. These include Libya, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, all of which are known to be highly conservative on issues around gender and sexuality. Perhaps surprisingly, the country with the oldest age of consent, at 21, is Portugal in Western Europe (Bahrain's age of consent is also 21). And while most European countries have 16-17 as the age of consent, several other European countries, including Malta and Vatican City, also have higher than average consent laws, requiring young people to be at least 18 before legally having sex. Austria has Europe's lowest age of consent at 14 years old."
Simply put morality is a subjective matter and it differs in all of us. Therefor it can not be stated that there is more or less of it. There are more perspectives on it, more than 7 and a half bilion of them. We shall never agree on who is right and who is wrong, because everyone is both, it just depends on who is judging them.
Better put no one is right and no one is wrong when it comes to morality. Because in a way morality is fictional and the authors are many.
Its simply subjective.
No no my friend u need to change your thinking about a lot of things
That was a very well argumented statement on your part. I'll take it into consideration... This for example is called sarcasm. It's kind of like a lie but it's also a joke.
Morality isn't far from slavery, but in this instance your brain is the slave. I on the other hand like to do all the thinking for myself. This shall not change because that would be evolution going in reverse.
You're a slave to ideas passed down to you from others. Not many thoughts are your own. This isn't something I wish to be part of. This is something I wish everyone could wake from.
at least those ideas are in harmony with what we call BEING A HUMAN, they are defined... What you call morality is undefined and absurd
Snowflake is something that is defining as well. Also you need to stop saying "we" and start saying "I". You don't know the basics of human behaviorism or psychology. Which I suggest spending years to research. What you say/wish is unrealistic. A dream at best.
Not really! Maybe for you. Since you lack self discipline. But dont compare the whole world with yourself. Maybe a thing might not be achievable by you, but its achievable and has been achieved by many before you and by many living in your age also...
I do find the concept of self fulfilment through slaving to delusions fascinating. I can tell you that much.
Yes yes right! You are the one living in delusions! You need to open your head to that...
Its spelled "knowledge"
ps: You still haven't provided a single solid argument to support your case. Did you want to discuss this or just preach nothingness?
Yeah right, knowledge!I can see that! 😅
I wanted to discuss it but you went in the completely wrong direction... so... 😉
By wrong direction do you mean to reality? Did it get to real for you?
Your SENSE OF KNOWLEDGE is completely absurd and void. So discussing it with you is just a waste of that which i call TRUE KNOWLEDGE!
Actually real is what you are far from my friend. Its like this, you are like an ostrich which pits its head inside the ground thinking that the world does not exist...Waking someone who is asleep is easy. Waking someone up who pretends to be asleep is a whole different story. You are of the 2nd sort!
You haven't provided a shred of it...
You're putting words together but none of them can be backed up or make sense...
I won't. Because you are living in a net of your own imagination and a few scientific and psychological concepts which you call knowledge. Its much more than that... But u lack that sense. So there's no use of providing...
Actually nvm, my fault man, I keep searching for intelligent life on here but I guess it won't happen. Take care.
That which u call intelligent is far from intelligence... lolOh well never mind! May you develop the wisdom of coming out of your net! Bye!
ps: one last thing, the way you argue ideas is the way of a shitty preacher who knows he can't win. So as the last stand uses higher power/sense that is unreachable through logic. Because it doesn't fucking exist
you - "It's a higher power which no one can see so they can't disprove it.. I'll use that as my agument!"
The above is what is called by you as "mean" and by me as constructive criticism. Which I know you don't understand why, but people need it.
