Why is it society beautifies the female gender?

When you think about it, most of western society pushes the notion of beauty towards the female gender from a young age. They are shown a standard of what to look like and the majority of women for whatever reason really take this notion to heart.

Most women don’t even want to be seen unless they’ve done their makeup and hair the way they want to, because most women base their self worth from how they feel like they look. By adulthood beauty is pretty much a perfected ritual for most women with hour long bathroom routines and strange little devices made for curling out eyelash hairs.

Honestly there is nothing inherently superior about the male or female body in terms of how it looks. It’s all subjective. Like art. However modern western society has deemed females as the symbol of beauty and there is much effort towards enhancing female beauty through clothing, fashion, makeup, etc.

So was the female gender sort of chosen arbitrarily? You can’t argue that men don’t like beautiful things as well, they just aren’t taught to think they need to be one. But they could, and in history they have.

Would women achieve greater equality to men if female beauty standards were not a thing? What would women do if personal beauty was not a factor? How else would they achieve status and self esteem in today’s society?
