Yet they can used to commit murder.
Well aware of that, but these additional "murder" weapons are classed differently in trials to make a distinction because to say "well everything can be a murder weapon" could get very confusing in a court case because there are often different penalties for carrying different kinds of weapons vs. using items that an individual then turned into a weapon out of convenience.
So a knife is a convenience? Since when?
For example: if a suspect broke into your home and you grabbed a kitchen knife to defend yourself as they started attacking you---that is a weapon of convenience (meaning it was available at the moment) rather then did you buy said kitchen knife as a weapon with the intention to go around stabbing people. You bought it to chop your onions.
But if he was carrying a knife, is that a convenience?
Yeah then why are knives banned in the U. K? Explain the OKC bombing? No guns used. Explain 9/11. No guns used to kill the people in the building. Explain Boston bombing. No guns. There are worse ways to harm people faster than an "assault weapon".
I understand and all of those are valid points. However, the majority of mass killings in the U. S. are with guns. Right?
Cigarettes kill more people than a mass shooter can ever accomplish.
And we have put MANY limits on who can buy cigarettes and where you can smoke them.
Yet we're not labeling tobacco companies bio terrorists.
Was that not a rant? Wow dude go take your testosterone meds.
@Thatsamazing Hi. I am trying to make this civil for a change. I meant that he made some valid points that there have been horrible atrocities that did not involve guns. That is not an excuse to not consider changes to our gun policies.
Boom. Yet this guy thinks he knows everything. I kept it civil by not insulting her at all whereas an asshole like him wants to throw insults before putting down his argument.
"That is not an excuse to not consider changes to our gun policies." Correct.
yeah in the highly rare event of a mass shooting. Most deaths come from suicide then comes murder, typically 1-2 people. Thats it. Not dozens. Same can be done with a knife just look at Elliot Rodgers
That’s fucked up, I’d move out of my country quick if they started implementing authoritarian laws like that, I’m from Canada and I carry a hunting knife often
@Someguynamedbob Dunno I personally wouldn't feel safe about someone holding a knife in the public.
"carrying a knife gets you arrested where I live"That's not true.
@NearlyNapping Um okay..Possession of a bladed article in public is an offense in Finland because it is often tied to street violence and crimes. So maybe you shouldn't make your claims out to be facts.
@Someguynamedbob Please do tell me if I'm wrong though.
Now you are putting conditions on it, which is a different thing. It's only in public, and it's only if you don't have justification for having it. In reality it's not enforced unless you are causing trouble. Simply walking around with a knife won't get you arrested. It's one of those things that's on the books just in case it's needed. That way if someone is causing trouble, the police have something to arrest them on.
@NearlyNapping What conditions? You mean street violence and other crimes? Even if you haven't done those things you will be arrested on the basis of public safety.
You gave one condition yourself. It's only in public. I already gave other conditions.
@NearlyNapping Well that's the only thing I was saying, to which you replied it isn't true.
You made a blanket statement, which is what's not true. Only a tiny fraction of people carrying knives would get arrested.
@NearlyNapping So you included people cutting up onions in their kitchen and people doing wooden sculptures in their backyards? It's obvious people like that won't get arrested as what they're doing isn't illegal. So me not including "in public" is the biggest mistake a human could make? Also it's true that carrying a knife in public doesn't get you arrested if it isn't seen, but if it is seen you will get arrested. I guess I should also mention that if the police officer is shot dead by a shotgun you also won't get arrested for carrying a knife because he will be too dead to care. I should probably mention more situations to avoid the arrest but you will probably find more things to nag about.
Only if he used it to assault someone.
OK. Makes sense? I guess to someone.
If I throw a bag a feathers at you, even with no harm done, that's still assault.
They didn't though?
Actually it was a bunch of anti-gun lobbyists in the 80's that came up with that term.
Weird that we used it in the military, then..
Civilian model AR-15's are usually semi automatic but because some people decide to alter them to be fully automatic, they're not the ones that politicians focus on. They'll attack those who literally have guns for self defence and recreational purposes. So whenever some lunatic goes and does something heinous with a modified fully automatic rifle that other people own but their rifles aren't modified, politicians will use what they used in their crime as means to label that gun as an "assault weapon".
So, is the "mislabeling" the work of gun advocates or gun control advocates? Because it seems like either side could benefit fromm the label.
Gun control advocates.

I agree with needing a license to own a gun, you should definitely have to go through a safety course before owning one, I live in Canada and you need a license to buy one, the problem is people are still trying to take our guns away up here even tho almost all our gun violence is from illegally attained guns
That depends. They can selectively choose 15 people you murder with a knife in a matter of days to months with a knife or do it all at once with a gun. Mind you, they can use a pistol with 17 rounds to kill 15 people. It doesn't have to be with a rifle.
These nutjobs want to kill as much people that they can at once. More people that they kill in a hour is like porn to themYou can't kill 15 plus people in a hour with a knife
You didn't specify the amount of time of this killer would kill 15 people. Depending on how they do it they'll either be labeled a serial killer or mass murderer.
Dude its just manufactured fear of guns to pass infringing legislation. Mass shootings are rare, only a little over 1,000 deaths since '64. The beginnings of the Great Society, hmm wonder if gun confiscation would be involved with that
But people want to use other counties as examples of gun confiscation yet fail to realize that they're living in tyranny.
Sad. What are you going to be using to cut your vegetables?
Whatever works I guess.
