Why is it more socially acceptable for men to date younger people, but not vice versa?

Although too huge age gaps gets criticized both ways, it's still older women who dates younger men who receives most criticism. In many societies, also the Western, it's more socially acceptable for older men to date younger women than the other way around. It's also in some societies more acceptable for men to date other younger men than women dating younger women.

The age gap between D. Trump (73) and Melania (49) are almost the same as president Macron (41) and Brigitte (66) - 24-25 years old, yet it's considered worse when the man is youngest. When Sarah Paulson (44) started dating Holland Taylor (76) they also received a lot of criticism although both of them are women.

When the Norwegian celebrity Tore Petterson (40) dated a 26-years old man, almost none reacted at the gap. It would have been a big deal if he dated a 14 years older woman or if a woman dated a 14 years younger woman. But since he dated a man it was fine. Him dating a 26-years old woman would also be fine according to our society's standards. #Dating

If men's career, economy and stability wasn't as important, would it be more socially acceptable both ways then?
