What do you think would happen if the United States made it mandatory to serve in the military?

I think it would be a really good growing experience. I would want it to expand further then just military service but also a completely valid option to choose from.

like 2 years doing something outside of the village you only know. You meet new people challenged with the same goal oriented task. That's an invaluable growing experience.

All the racists wanting a single race nation state, saying "people only cooperate under helping other people like themselves." Shove it in there face and say that factor of "like themselves" can be anything. From military services to environmental conservation. You can make these bonds anywhere. Going outside of your own comfort zone is the real meaningful argument that i want.

I don't think mandatory military service should be required. Instead a minimum 2yr mandatory Government service should be required. It could be in the military or other Govt departments.

We all enjoy the benefits of our tax dollars, whether it be the highways we drive on, the historical monuments we preserve, the safety the military provides, the national parks, or anything else.

Giving a couple years of service toward helping your country would enable people to better understand just how our Gov't works and make better decisions concerning voting too.

If I'm being completely honest I'd be fine with that, I'm signed up for selective service anyway.

Also a lot of young people really need a dose of discipline and a good hard dose of reality, military is the perfect place to turn them into blank slates so to speak and build them up into proper men. Also the US military has a lot of good opportunities via schooling and education so it'd help people get useful and practical degree's and secure good jobs.

Nuclear war the US military would cost to much to keep going so they would need to invade Canada and Mexico and the middle east to gain resources which get the UN involved making it a world war witch eventually leads to a nuclear powered country backed into a corner and boom

Our citizens would be in better shape and our government wouldn’t be getting into stupid wars or conflicts because everyone’s child is at risk. Look at Israel, they get the US to do their dirty work because their citizenry would revolt if they invaded Iraq unnecessarily.
