Why do people attack others for wearing fur/leather while eating meat themselves?

Unirocks
There are major movements against people wearing fur/animal products.
However, oftentimes, a lot of those who are offended are people who eat meat etc themselves. If you are also consuming animal products that encourage their death, albeit in a different form, are you not as much a party to the killing of animals as others?
For the sake of clarifications, I am a vegetarian by choice, and do not wear any type of fur.
I understand that this argument is a bit of a slippery slope, as even vegans can blame vegetarians for still using animal products. However, I am concerned with the parallel between consumption of meat and using fur, i. e., both methods that cause the death of an animal.
