I like this comment, because you start by saying he probably wouldn't do it, and then go on to justify such an action, just in case he does. Or to put it another way, no matter what he does, you will defend him.Closing businesses down IS a major thing, I agree. People are going to suffer immensely under the nigh-inevitable economic recession that this has caused. When the economy crashes, people die: suicide, increased crime, drug addiction, etc.HOWEVER, the economy will not be able to operate at its full potential while this is going on. The health-care system will be overburdened, and people whose lives could've been saved will die which results in lost productivity, since you seem interested in talking about this in the cold calculus of business. We will lose huge tourism revenues (which is pretty big for us). Other countries will close their borders, halting trade. If this is allowed to rage unabated, sick days will increase, minor health problems won't be able to get treated due to the overburdened healthcare system, people will lose their jobs and then there is the bereavement days. If you let this go on unabated, there are going to be very few people in the United States who won't know someone who died because of this thing. Deaths of close family members could trigger depression, which also will cause a drop in productivity. That GDP you're talking about will also be affected, when we lose 2% of our taxpayers. Conservatives seem to think that the economy is run by automatons, but there is a human element in a market. A market is nothing but a human element, which is why they aren't perfect.
@WhistleForTheChoir I am not justifying it if he does I am justifying Trump's eagerness to do so. There is nothing cold about business, it is what keeps the world living and all our lives depend on it. Without productivity there is nothing for anybody.
@WhistleForTheChoir Abortions kill a lot more potential taxpayers. just sayin'
You're petty-fogging. "I'm not justifying it if he does it, just justifying that he WANTS to do it." Which, if he were to do it, serves equally as a justification for why he did it. Business is not inherently cold, but saying, "Well, maybe we should let people die so we can open up so businesses don't suffer," is what I would call cold. The rest of what you said, is so banal and "duh!" that I don't really feel need to address it. I mean, I sort of agree. I maybe wouldn't put "business" (I assume you mean "trade") on the same level as "love" or "togetherness", but it is one of a few pretty fundamental pillars of our society. Do you think other people aren't aware of that?
@Massageman Nice attempt of derailment. I wasn't even going to respond to the other guy, because his argument was so bad, but I had to, because now I have to respond to you. His argument is better than yours, just to be clear. It's at least somewhat related to the topic at hand. It's like he and I were talking about the causes of World War 1, and you started talking about the Holocaust is made up. Just saying. But you want to talk about abortion, I'm happy to. As it turns out, zygotes and fetuses don't pay taxes. I'm not sure if you're aware of that. Is there another point you want to make?
@WhistleForTheChoir Why can you not understand, people need to work for the world to survive? No matter what decision we make lives will be lost, but we need to make the best decision.
@WhistleForTheChoir If a pregnant woman is killed along with her developing human, the perpetrator is guilty of TWO murders. Your turn!
@WhistleForTheChoir social distancing has been extended to April 30th.
@Massageman Not according to the Bible it's not. Or modern science, but I'm sure you don't care about that.
@Jackblue Good, he did the right thing, and it's good that you justified both sides prematurely, so you didn't have to admit that your Daddy Trump made a mistake and get your fee-fee's all hurt.I understand that people need to work, you're attempting a really shitty straw-man argument right now. But it's a lot easier to work if you're not in the hospital or fucking dead, and the decision to not social distance will result in a lot MORE lives being lost. Look, I realize you're an entitled American stereotype, who has been raised in conditions of extraordinary privilege your whole life. Medical care has always been available, you haven't seen what happens when it's not. And this privilege ironically why you think you know everything, but if you've ever been to a plague zone, it's not a fun place. You don't know what you're talking about. Italy, Spain and Iran are currently building mass graves that can be seen from fucking orbit. Skating rinks are being used as impromptu morgues. And relatively young people who have very treatable conditions such as heart attacks or appendicitis are not getting the treatment they need to survive. You probably saw the governor of Texas or Glenn Beck or whoever talking about this, and you figure, "Eh, they're an expert right?" No, they aren't.
@WhistleForTheChoir Son, when I was 23 I studied 4 months in India amidst the beggars everywhere and the scrawny stray dogs. Last August I returned to the US from 14 months in China where I taught English. In China I lived in an apartment with holes in the walls and roof and still not cleaned up from the previous occupant. I slept on a bed that was as hard as a rock. All that was fine until I got sick in the winter. I had a fever and explosive diarrhea which I couldn't control. I soiled nearly every pair of pants I had. My company took me to a hospital which was overcrowded and where there was no privacy at all not even in front of the doctor. I was so weak that at times I couldn't stand and there was often nowhere to lie but the floor. Ultimately I was ill for two weeks, I was far from home and nobody knew the English word for what I had, to this day I still don't know. I got through these experiences by remembering that America used to be just as bad, but that we got over it by developing in the same way that the third world is trying to develop now. If Americans are idle for too long however, our society will start to fall apart and it will be difficult to repair it.
I believe you, because I'm currently in China, and how you describe hospitals and the mattresses is pretty par for the course here. But it kind of speaks to my point that you think that your personal struggles and having to sleep on an uncomfortable mattress is somehow equivalent to being in an active plague zone. You're entitled. The fact is that you still GOT medical treatment. That's just how the hospitals operate here. Now, what would've happened if you had those issues, and they couldn't treat you because they didn't have enough resources and doctors? What happens if you have a fever and explosive diarrhea right now. Do you think going to the hospital is a good, reliable option?
And don't call me "son", you're three years older than me, ya know-it-all cunt.
