Do people have a right to their own tissue?

Whatthefluff
Hundreds of millions of Americans who go in for routine surgeries have their left-behind tissue studied and used in medical experiments. Of the people who have tried to sue over this practice, one man was told he could not sue the hospital as his spleen was a sort of waste he left behind.
The purposes for tissue experimentation often have to do with finding cures and testing the effects of medications, but tissue activists argue that people have a right to control of their body parts, even when detached from their bodies.
People rarely receive compensation for this. This issue has been left in the dark despite being practiced for decades.
