Nonsense. The poor are going to be the most impacted either way. As far as it being a farce, experience shows that the places where action was not initially taken (italy, Iran, NYC) have fared far worse. China shut down and limited the damage.
And name-calling is the last refuge of those who can't support their statements with facts.
No, its not nonsense. That's just fucking stupid. Over 25 million americans are now jobless thanks to the lock down, we undid four years of economic growth in less then a month, people are now running out of money for food, all for a disease that by all evidence available is at best as sever as the common flu and you want to try to claim that this is an acceptable trade? You ignore the statements of actual proffesionals, people who have answered every question with data and facts NOT conjecture and models (like the "experts" you present) and you want to claim some kind of win for this? I'm sorry but that is idiotically stupid and your kind of a shitty person (elitist usually are though) for not caring that your destroying millions of lives and families for nothing (except that its either politically expedient or your just a coward (don't know which and I don't care). As for facts, I presented them, you ignored them (as you have done hundreds of times before). I didn't insult you and not present information, I presented information and data that directly refuted all of your claims, from experts and scientific sources, and then mentioned you are indifferent to the suffering of others as you have proven yourself to be. If I call you an idiot without providing an argument with evidence, that's just an ad hominem attack, if I provide a reasoned argument with facts that you directly ignore like all the others and then insult you, that's just me being frustrated with your stupidity and calling you what you are.
Tell that to the people who would be DEAD if no action is taken.EVERY country is taking some kind of action to control the spread. Some of the people on here seem to be OBLIVIOUS to that fact.
Good point. I'm doing better financially as I get the same pay without paying for gas, and since everything's closed there isn't much to spend money on.

The virus is subsiding BECAUSE of people avoiding public spaces. As a new virus it is poorly understood, and there is the possibility of long-term issues down the road among survivors, possibly even those with minor symptoms.
Did you even read what I said? And don't tell me the same scientists that figured out almost nothing about this virus in 4 months know that it is any one thing that slowed this down. Or that what I am suggesting would not also work. Most people would decide for themselves to stay home unless necessary and follow guidelines. We don't need the governor to threaten jail if we dont obey.
I think in some cases it would, but for things like movie theaters and such I don't see how it would be possible.
Its the same thing. Space people out. Wear masks. Sanitize between movies. Buy your tickets online prior. Theyll do less business but its better than nothing.
The problem movie theaters will have is, there are too many other alternatives now. Teenagers will still want to go to get away from their families, but most of us have HDTV's at home now and streaming, and won't think it worth the risk.
This has already been true. But who wants to watch a good action movie or something with good special effects at home instead of in surround sound and big screen? Or IMAX.
The added risk of getting sick could well be the tipping point. People aren't going to necessarily make those decisions with the same factors as before.
I think cruise lines are going to be screwed, especially since a lot of their customers are older.
The fear will subside. People will move on eventually
Sure, but that could be 2 years or longer, and some businesses won't make it that long.
Most scientists don't work for the government, they work for universities, corporations, or non-profits. And they don't all rely on government grants. And covid-19 is more deadly than any flu since the 1918-1920 epidemic. Only among those under 30 is it comparable to the seasonal flu. So far 60,000 Americans have died from it compared to no more than 20,000 in a normal flu season. And normal flu isn't fought by closing down schools and workplaces, so obviously it would be much deadlier if people weren't taking extraordinary precautions. Did you trust the businessmen in the tobacco industry when they extolled the health virtues of cigarettes?
@zagor"And they don't all rely on government grants."Oh, come on! I'd guess a huge portion of university research is paid for by the government.A couple years ago the death toll from the flu was over 60,000. It has been under 20,000 once in the past 10 years.www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.htmlOf course, this year it will probably be 15,000, since flu deaths will be classified as COVID.
You're a real prize, old man. Not sure where you're reading your "science" but it must have Fox News imprinted on it or a front page with headlines like "Aliens abduct Movie Star."
@coffeewithcream OK, immature girl enlighten me...
www.reuters.com/.../u-s-coronavirus-outbreak-soon-to-be-deadlier-than-any-flu-since-1967-as-deaths-top-60000-idUSKBN22B32CAnd you CONVENIENTLY IGNORED the fact that the deaths from covid-19 are while much of society is effectively shut down. What would the death toll be if it were business as usual?
Actually the 2 million was predicted to be the case WITHOUT social distancing. And doctors don't get money for making dire predictions; in fact many are losing money as the more lucrative elective procedures are being postponed or cancelled.
Those are not actual medical doctors, those are "scientists" making the epidemiology predictions. And their predictions were way off the mark. And summer is coming. And many, nay nearly all, businesses can reopen with easy social distancing, especially in rural and suburban areas where such distancing comes with the territory already.
How are there predictions off the mark? Would you have preferred that the lockdown didn't happen at all?
Are Americans this fucking stupid?Apparently so.
@coffeewithcream If they all were there wouldn't be a shutdown. It seems to be an affliction of the right.
