EU Law - is it 98% 'the highest bidder'?

I don't know if any of you worked in Brussels - but after years of working there, and trying to do the right thing, I am noticing again - there is no such thing as the right thing, just the highest bidder (they call it 'the lobby group').

Anyone else had a similar experience - that you can get paid, as long as you shut up and ignore every shred of what you believe is the right thing to do (because we have to pay the Spanish, and the Greeks, and all others - yes, from your work - they don't like to work, but you do)?
