I don’t think they’re gonna mess with marriage equality. We’ve won.
I disagree. A few of them already disagreed with it and voted against it, but failed. Now that there’s another catholic activist judge, who is openly against it, I think they’ll try again.
I think you dont understand how the supreme court works. They cannot just randomly decide to go and retroactively invalidate decisions from the past. they can't even consider those cases unless they have something to do with cases that have been approved for them to see.. So where ever you're getting your idea that they will take away gay marriage, or voter rights, or even abortion you need to stop, cause its simply wrong and not how the supreme court works..
And yet routinely conservatives on the Supreme Court keep voting for the repeal of roe v wade, and have voted against gay marriage. So no, my concern is still valid. If they decide to over turn it, then there’s Jack shit anyone can do to stop them. They are the highest court.
So let me make this a bit easier to understand. Voting is a constitutional right. There is literally nothing the supreme court can do to change that. Nothing at all. The only way that changes is via a new amendment to the constitution, which would have to be approved by all 50 states. Gay marriage was also made a part of an amendment, so again the supreme court cannot change it without an amendment to the constitution. Same for abortion rights. The supreme court does not make laws, nor do they decide criminal or legal cases, they determine weather or not something is constitutional. Once decided, to reverse the decision an amendment needs to be made to the constitution.
Thanks for the clarification. I just hope you’re right
