While Biden ultimately won the presidency, why do you think it wasn't by the landslide the polls expected?

a lot of people are talking about how "the polls got it wrong again" but I think that if there is a fundamental problem with the polling in terms of representing the popular will of the American public, it's a drop in the bucket.

What all of these analysts who are giving all of these speculative reasons for why the "polling was off" are ignoring a huge *ahem "elephant" in the room. This is that the GOP has been moving further and further to the right while the DNC's position has been relatively constant:And now they more closely resemble authoritarian far right parties in Europe as opposed to center left ones:
And what makes an authoritarian regime "authoritarian" is that those in power do what they can to repress the popular will of their nation. Contrary to popular belief in the US, many authoritarian regimes have elections but they do what they can to manipulate the results and decrease the ballots cast by political dissidents. In the US, polling places usually have multi-hour wait times in predominately minority areas and Trump did what he could to gut the post office and limit mail in voting BECAUSE he knew that would hurt him.
You also see this authoritarianism in the attitudes many on the right take like supporting the electoral college because it gives them an advantage and they give BS excuses to justify it (like "it's needed to give small states a voice" when land doesn't vote, people do):
While Biden ultimately won the presidency, why do you think it wasnt by the landslide the polls expected?
And you can also see how many were complaining about how mail in voting will allow people who are "too lazy to do it otherwise" the ability to vote. If whether or not you get something depends on how hard you work, it's a privilege and part of what makes a free country free is that voting is a right. Even Trump's saying he'll engage in a peaceful transfer of power under certain conditions? What "conditions"; you lost, GTFO!

So why were the polls off? Because the party in power is moving into the authoritarian camp.
