Guns are used in self defense bouble the amount of people they claim have died of covid-19 a year.
where did you get that statistic?
The CDC found that a gun us used 500,000 times a year in stopping a crime or self defense.
Thank you for the reference. I looked up the CDC stats and downloaded their book about it. Therein: "The NCVS (National Crime Victimization Survey) has estimated 60,000 to 120,000 defensive uses of guns per year." There's no way to know for sure how many of those would have resulted in a death if guns had not been present. By contrast, there are about 40,000 gun deaths per year. Again, there is no way to know how many deaths would not happen if guns had not been present. But you make a valid point. For the record, I do not advocate the banning of guns, except assault rifles, which are not defensive weapons. I advocate not selling guns to former criminals, people with serious mental problems or children. I also think gun safety training should be mandatory just as car safety training is mandatory.
Assault rifles are already regulated to the point that they are out of reach the average citizen unless you want to spend over $10,000 for the ones that are registered and trasferable ones, plus pay a $200 tax to the government to get approval along with a buch of other stuff so you can keep it. Why aren't "Assault Rifles" defensive weapons? Background check already don't allow the sell of firearms to criminals, people with serious mental problems and anyone undet the age of 18 for long guns and 21 for pistols. There isn't car safety training? You literally take a test and if you pass you can drive to class room or hours spent with instructor. Also driving is a privilege not a Right. The training your talking about would now make it possible for firearm trainers to jack prices up. I agree people should get training, but I never have and i am more trained than some people be after one of those classes.
Whats the gunbroker link for?No, even with how the NRA is today they wouldn't support a bill that expanded background checks, and i assure you this article is a complete lie. Also you go to a gun show and you buy from a vendor with a FFL you have to go through a background check. What they are referring to as yhe gunshow loop hole isn't related to gun shows at all. That they are referring to is the private transaction of selling a gun from one private individual to an other. Which the majority have the buyer go through a background check there at the gun show. The bill didn't pass because obviously it is unconstitutional.
"The only countries that have higher violent crime rates..."Uh, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil, Venezuela, South Africa, Congo... to name a few.

Except it isn't. It's nonsense. Take it from someone who actually lives in Australia. The vast and overwhelming majority of us support extremely strict gun control.
@Yaaten Do you have statistics showing that gun-related crimes have decreased?
Here you go: www.factcheck.org/.../
@Yaaten I would be interested in seeing more statistics. Of course, a fact checking organization can have a political/ideological bias and anyone can twist statistics to prove a point. In he article you cited, there as much said about the decrease in firearm related homicides and suicides but not one word to suggest if people were simply using other weapons to commit suicide or kill their ex. If the overall murder or suicide rates have not declined, then the law has not accomplished its purpose.
@OlderAndWiser even if statistic is right there are plenty of ways to show it in light you want, like coyetes kill 10 people per year but cows 300. So it looks like cows are murderous creatures, but it ignores the fact that there are millions of coyetes in farms packed close together and have constant contact with humans.
Yee right xD its not like you can't make firearms at home, just need ok lathe and maybe mill if you want to be fancy about it. In fact if you get the barrel (hardest part) you can use file to shape rest of parts.
Have you ever met a criminal? They are not the brightest bunch.
Yee, they just need to find someone to make firearms for them.
Right, which they can do now easily, because the manufacture has so few regulations.
You forgot one other thing, no firearm education means more gun deaths.
I haven't seen any statistical data on that variable, but honestly I wouldn't expect it to have much of an impact on the totals.
Why wouldn't it?
I tried looking it up, but couldn't find any research directly attributed to the gun safety education variable. However, the vast majority of gun deaths are homicide and suicide, so that would rule out any notable effect that the small percentage of accidental deaths has on the total.
Gun homicides would decrease if more people would take responsibility of their own safety by carrying a firearm and getting training with it.Also why do suicides get to affect gun deaths?
Simple logic - if I'm not armed, chances are that nobody will die by a gun by my hand. If I'm armed, the chances of someone, or myself, dying from gunshot wound go up exponentially. If fewer people carry guns, fewer people die from them. Before we get too political, I'd be ok with people carrying tazers and/or other less destructive means of protection. Bring back swords! lol
Simple logic - criminal has a knife, gun, whatever. My chances with a gun in self defense are much hight than without. No one will die by your hand if you have a gun unless you decide to.
If more gun laws work then explain why Chicago has the highest crime rate and gun homicides?
Exactly. This guy is either being deliberately dishonest, or he doesn't know Jack Shit about how Australia's gun laws actually work.
Gun lays may work in other countries but they still only do one thing, punish law abiding citizens and give criminals a bigger stick
Didn't ask if it reduce gun deaths. Asked if it reduce crime or empowers criminals.
hey banned semi-auto rifles, and pump action rifles and shotguns. No mention of a ban on Assault Weapons.
But when the do or they have any tool using as a weapon your severely out matched.
@Vulvalicker That's a point one can I just live in a country where one isn't allowed to go hunting without a license. Go hunting without a license is a crime because the woods here are either state or private property. There are seasons when hunting is allowed and there are seasons when it isn't. Even if you own parts of the woods one isn't allowed to go hunting when and what he wants, because the government controls which animal and the amount of them that can be hunted.
Licenses are required to hunt
Yes but if you have less weapons around and less people are allowed to buy them, that´s less likely to happen. It can still happen but you´ll never prevent that from happening. Or at least that´s my view.
@Lionman95 Criminals are like predators they go after the the most venerable. You of all people should know that.
Yes true, but that´s a problem you won´t loose with allowing everybody to buy a gun or weapon. That´s rather the risk of life.
If every law abiding citizen had a gun and uses it responsibly then this leaves no one venerable and makes it more of a risky endeavor.
But even that wouldn´t stop a person with criminal energy. Secondly of all, even if you give everybody weapon there would be still be a vulnerable person because having a gun and knowing how to use it properly are two different things. Even I don´t believe that everybody having a gun would stop criminals from doing crimes. Furthermore I doubt that everybody will always act responsibly for example when another person takes your priority in traffic do you accept that calmly. Some people will stop shouting at each other and start shooting if they´re really angry. I don´t believe that giving weapons to everybody is a way of reducing criminal acts. The reduction of guns and weapons can make it harder for criminals but they won´t solve the problem alone.
@Lionman95 It will stop them when you put them when you put some lead in their system. In a self defense situation your goals is to stop the treat, if the person dies from it so be it, they forfeited their rights when they violated yours.
Way to be racist there!
Sure no gun crime but did stop crime now did it?
America has one of the highest violent crime rates of any first world country.
And the most free country. Freedom over "theoretical safety" any day!
It's not the most free country if everybody is afraid of getting shot
Also you know where all that crime comes from? Democratic run cities with all the gun laws possible
Im not afraid of being shot because im don't live in a city where crime is highest because criminal have free rain over civilians because criminals have the bigger stick.
Why does gun control work in every other countrY?
It works because the government controls everything! People have no freedom. Plus its much easier to control when your country is isolated or buffered by others with gun control as well.
Prove those people don't have freedom.
No freedom of speech, no right to bear arms, no right to protest, government controls the media.
Most countries have freedom of speech and free media. You don't have any proof. You're a dumbass.
They don't because the US is the only on that the constitution garantee freedom of speech, right to bear arms, freedom of the press, and other human rights. Other countries don't have a guarantee, the government just permits it until you disagree with them.
@John_Doesnt look at Switzerland at that case, most firearms are at home including military ones, ant yet they have really low gun crime rate. So ask it yourself why it is so? Its culture, they have been taught what gun is. @berserk945 then I suggest you to read other country constitutions and to stop being stupid. My country provides all of it, except about firearms. Its not hard to get them, you just can't be criminal, have to know how to use gun safety and know law about firearm usage and have safe at home.
@_inkRat what country you from?
@__inkRat Switzerland is only one case. Other countries with strict gun control have low violent crimes and lower overall crime. Also, Switzerland has gun control where they require people to be trained with a gun before giving it to them. America doesn't have that.
@John_Doesnt I would call it common sense, not gun control. You train to drive car, why should firearm be any different?@berserk945 Latvia in 2020 raked 22 in worlds freedom of press while USA ranked 45censorship is forbidden, as rest of human rights are granted. Just dont get started on non-citizens, they are left over solviet occupation when next to 1.3m remaining Latvians solviets itruduced about 1m of Russians. They have all rights to get citizenship providing they know Latvian language know history and dont deny genocide against Latvian people at the second world war and occupation. And yee there are still people who hasn't bothered to learn language after 30 years of living here.
@__inkRat nothing about gun control is common sense. No you don't need to train to drive a car, just take a test and pass the physical drivers test. Firearms are different because we have the right to own them and making it mandatory to get training is a violation to that right. Should you get training yes. Driving is not a right its a privilege.
@berserk945 well to us it is common sense. Maybe its worth to look at it from different point of view? Its right to bear arms yes, but where to draw line on others right to live? If your right to bear arms takes away other right to live because you didn't know how to own and use firearms then maybe right to bear arms should be to those who know how to bear arms? there's a lot more to bearing arms than simply hanging rifle over your shoulder. If its so absolute then why in military then just dont give out firearms to every recruit on first day? In fact 2A speaks of well regulated militia, meaning they know how to use firearms, so asking to prove that person knows how to use firearm would not be against it quiz if they dont there can't be any well regulated militia. See Im not saying that you can't own firearms, just that you must know how to use them
What's happening in Australia? Go on, tell someone who actually lives in the country (i. e. me). Do you live in Australia? I'll bet not. This video is complete bullshit.
