Republicans, are there any lefties that you can respect?

The only progressive alive today that I can respect is Andrew Yang. I disagree a lot of what he suggests in regards to fiscal and monetary policy... but he brings up a lot of points that make me think. He doesn’t play the emotional game that so many democrats make. No moral superiority. Just logic and facts. He’s not hostile. When he’s interviewed by a Republican like Ben Shiparo, he ends up teaching them something new and they typically both walk out of that conversation understanding each other a little better. He always seems to create a constructive conversation that requires critical thought.

Define "Leftie."

In terms of elected officials, Rep. Debbie Dingel and Senator Joe Manchin are both highly respected and respectable. Ditto Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver and former Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford Jr. The current House Majority Leader, Rep. Stenny Hoyer, is also someone who conducts himself honorably and articulates his views clearly and without undue emotion and vitriol.

Also, the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Probably one of the most distinguished and thoughtful intellectuals ever to serve in Congress. By any measure, he is deserving of respect if not downright admiration for his clarity of thought, his dedication to intellectual consistency and the rigor of his principles. There have been few like him on EITHER side of the aisle.

As I work in politics, it is to the elected officials that my mind first turns, and hence I list these Members, current and past.

Also, these individuals may be classified as more moderate - certainly Manchin is so classified - and so "leftie" is defined only relative to their position on the overall spectrum between Republicans and Democrats. Certainly there are figures further to the left than those I have mentioned above, but these still qualify within the broad context of the American political spectrum.

Tulsi Gabbard. I'm conservative but that's one liberal I respect and could vote for. Calling out Obama for arming ISIS, refusing to back hillary, calling out harris on her prosecutor record, calling out the DNC for cheating bernie out of thd primaries, introducing the stop arming terrorist Bill, served in the army in Iraq, called out the US government on perpetual regime change policies in the middle east that keeps the us military involved

I like your point in this question, EXCEPT that you think only Democrats play on emotions and/or moral superiority. Republicans do the same exact thing, only they do it on different subjects. Anyway, I appreciate Yang's point of view quite often. No one agrees with everything one person says, but he does make good, FACT based arguments.

I see this from the left a lot more. They fight for social justice, so naturally they start emotionally charged arguments and debates more often. This is definitely a democratic tactic. Oppose their policy and validate your narritive by standing on some moral high ground. In other words, you’re a terrible selfish person if you don’t support socialized medicine, universal basic income, and welfare/social programs. This is definitely a democratic tactic per the current political climate. I think the right can utilize this tactic when it comes to religious beliefs, but I see the tactic being used by democrats much more so. I mean, the whole idea of Biden is that he’s simply a nice man with upstanding morale in comparison to trump. That was the entire narrative of this election strategy. Even the democrats I run into within my real life use these tactics. It’s annoying. One of the big reasons I lean right.

Whether you want to believe or not, Trump is NOT a nice man... he's a fucking piece of shit. But I maintain that both sides use emotionally charged arguments. What's wrong with the idea of "socialized medicine" ... ? Do it right and it works.

I mean I honestly don’t care if they’re nice or rough around the edges. I care about how effective they are as a leader, and what policies they implement. Character is simply a bonus, but it’s of little importance to me tbh.

And Trumps personality truly doesn’t bother me. He’s a womanizer, and a narcissist, but I don’t believe he’s truly a bad person. I’m used to see loud mouths like him on the daily. You’re entitled to how you feel though.

Socialized medicines have negative ramifications for the physicians and the people. I’m a veteran and can tell you that you don’t want to deal with the VA. It’s a horrible experience, and everyone would have to deal with it. It equates to lesser quality health care for all.

Not if it's done right, but to do that, the entire system has to be revamped, as well as the incentives for becoming doctors and nurses. Nice talk.
