Do you think selling single cigs should be illegal?

Me just sat here watching a documentary to find out this is a thing wasn't even related to the documentary really but some guy there arrested was doing. I am just confused to hell who actually cares about someone selling a cig lol. Like ya know there is million other serious problems but nah focus on his cig selling. Also who would even buy singles that would actually cost more smh.

I don't smoke and never have but I just searched up a random price for a packet of straights, a packet of 20 would cost £10.80 according to UK news, note this is not every brand but certain ones.

I which means if someone decided they wanted to go and sell cigarettes individually then they should only price them for 54p each.

But obviously there is a MUCH easier way around this... learn how to roll your own cigarettes with a packet of tobacco and papers.

they sell singles for more. So it makes it more profitable for them which don't even make sense why people would buy them in first place just seems like a waste but if someone wants to they should be let to. and yeah rolling is cheap or cheap not so legal ones anyway that you can find in many places never seen shop been shut down for having them. But it's a £5 for 2 packs of 20 so for a £10 that's 80 cigs. Which ain't bad.
My ex use to smoke, i did with her. But other than that i don't really smoke just more of a social thing. I vape every now and then just cause it actually has super nice flavours like custard. And well is much healthier.

I would guess the problem is not in selling a single cigarette, but something else. Selling it without a permit, selling smuggled cigs, selling it on the "black market",...

nah they made it actually illegal to sell 1 cig even in stores due to it's not healthy... which umm yeah smoking is unhealthy anyway lol. And yeah smuggled cigs and a big operation would be a whole other issue that's already illegal due to other laws so wouldn't need to have a law on selling one cig. Nvm just one guy selling a couple for a quick buck ain't an issue.
So it just seems like an excessive added law. That the cops could focus on better things.

I don’t think selling them should be illegal. The reason that cig selling may seem like a big deal to some is because of capitalism. These businesses don’t want to lose money or have others profit off their items because it takes money out of what they could’ve made. I think it’s all dumb cigarette companies already made a crap ton there’s no reason to be super worried about lowkey cig sellers but I mean life is all a money game.

Im surprised about this. In my country, its normal to sell single cigs in the streets and small stores. Did they say why it is illegal?

They didn't say but i looked it up. Something to do with how it effects the government getting tax money on it and is a cause why tax goes up on cigs. So basically the government can siphon more money. That's good it ain't there. love your name on here by the way lol

Yup seems to be the case. And some double standers on how it's illegal to sell unhealthy stuff in lower amounts because that is worse than buying more of it? which they do a lot with unhealthy stuff.

Multiple pack stuff is not actually illegal to sell separately, it's just there to discourage big shops selling them separate on cheaper deals. If there sold for the same price individually as they would cost then legally it's okay. This is why at cafe's and stuff they will sell multiple pack soda's but never get in legal trouble. But then again i doubt it's that enforced if it's a smaller seller compared to supermarkets.
