I believe in most trials, defendants are allowed to pick whether the judge or a jury renders a verdict. Which would you choose? The judge is most likely intelligent and knows the law, but is embedded in the system and could be an elected official. Juries, on the other hand, are regular people who aren’t savvy enough to get out of civic duty.

Jury. I’ve been screwed over by a judges verdict before, tossed out my initial protection order because he somehow thought my ex was harmless. I think he was paid off. Luckily the second judge actually had some fucking sense

We haven’t got jury here, which is fine with me. And judges are not elected officials either. I’ll go for judge.
That said, it tends to be rare. Also, the Supreme Court said that there needs to be a committee where someone can ask for a pardon to the King. But that has so far never actually been granted (it’s only 4 years old afaik)
A thing that more often is life in effectively prison is forced psychological therapy in an institution that stretches until said person is no danger to society.
