How can people be Libertarian in the GOP when it simultaneously supports Right Wing populism and the religious right?

I'm a Republican, but in a blue state where most Republicans aren't a bunch of True Believer loons. Sure, some are. They usually don't win elections. Me deciding to join the GOP as opposed to the Democratic Party was a result of carefully researching all candidates in several elections to see whether or not I was okay with their agendas. I was an independent when I first registered at the age of 18, then declared as a Republican 2 years later so I could vote in closed primaries.

I did the iSideWith. com quiz and retook it as recently as last year and it still puts me in the "Libertarian Right" spectrum, but I wouldn't call myself a capital-L Libertarian.

American Libertarians is a very unique type of Libertarianism, one that is mostly very far to the right actually. It does seem contradictory in some aspects, but American Libertarianism is one of the dumbest ideologies on the planet to begin with, so I don't really expect much from it.

Libertarianism and the GOP are two different political parties. The gop is made up of conservatives and republicans. Not libertarians.
