When is the last time you gave a homeless person some money?

Its so sad to see. I get that they could get out and get a job, and i hope they do. But still, i cave sometimes. This lady this past weekend asked me for some change. At first i said i didn't have any. Then i felt guilty so i walked back and gave a dollar. But after walking away i wanted to turn back and give even more. I know in Vegas, a man with a guitar kept singing on the street that he just needed $1. I gave him a $20 and then he went back to singing for $1. Kinda ticked me off lol but i felt like i did a good deed. Then another person gave him $100 and he kept singing for more. Its like alright buddy, shut your scamming trap at this point. But anyways, i just feel like i wanna help em if i see em. I wonder would it be nicer to give a bag of clothes and groceries as well as money? Either way a lot of people say dont help the homeless because they’ll just try to rob you in return

Thanks for all the answers. Honestly, you can’t control how people spend their money. I’d still consider giving up to $20 per person i see. Maybe even some of those quarter coin holders. They have the free will to do whatever with it. But for the most part, i’ll try to make care packages instead with hoodies, bottled water, tylenol, beanies, flashlights, bodywash, toothbrush kit, chips, and protein bars :) Thanks for the ideas

I don't give homeless people money. Give them a dollar and they'll start asking you for $5. I learned that the hard way when there was this hot homeless Australian chick living in my city. She played her keyboard outside the subway station at 2nd and Market. She was a total scammer, though.

Not that she wasn't homeless; but she had a boyfriend supporting her (who lived with his parents) and was only using that money for herself. She could've moved back in with her stepparent anytime she wanted, but chose to "sleep in her car" because it was more lucrative for her than getting a job. And also being cute in her early to mid twenties with long black hair, also helped her cause. She basically made more money being a moocher and practicing her keyboard skills than working an honest 9-to-5. But the issue is, she lied to people.

I found that there is a LOT of fake homeless people where I live. At 9pm, they get off the subway, stop going from car to car soliciting people for money, and get out their iPhones and start chatting away. I've seen it happen. I'd guess maybe 35-40% of the homeless population in Philadelphia are scammers.

So NO ONE should give homeless people any money! Buy them food or something. If they're truly homeless, they'll appreciate the food. If they're scammers, they'll scoff and reluctantly pretend they want it. But don't enable bad habits from people who are often homeless for a reason (drug addicts and weak-willed).

Yea i agree its smarter to give food or clothes. And i know homeless people who have iphones but theyre usually old now and were bought by someone else. Plus theyre usually only working by wifi
