Right now we have millions on unemployment or without jobs. Do we really need 11 million more. These people are here illegally while immigrants in other countries have to deal with a lottery to see when they can be let in because of quotas. To make illegals citizens who sneak in and don't care about our laws - remember, they came illegally - and don't have to wait their turn like legal immigrants have to - is a slap in the face to those same legal immigrants. Biden wants to change Trump's policies, but are they for the nation's best interests? If Biden let's them in he will also have to provide them with unemployment benefits, even though they paid nothing into unemployment insurance It's also a slap in the face to essential workers who have to work and can't slack off and mooch unemployment like those who won't look for jobs because they make more on unemployment, My rant is over. It's bad on a lot of levels. You pointed out the obvious ones of more unemployment and illegal aliens getting US citizen benefits. Let's add in other issues that Biden & Democrats totally ignore.
Housing will be more unavailable, increasing homelessness. Welfare, WIC, and other Gov't programs for poor people will be over extended, meaning MUCH higher taxes for ALL of us, paying for more and more people supported off the Gov't. (We're already at 55% of the tax payers supporting the other 45% non-tax paying people.) Then there's the overcrowding in schools. CA already has this problem because they refuse to cooperate with Federal Government agencies charged with removal of illegal aliens. And let's not forget the strain on the police, fire departments, healthcare, and our courts. Some of these people ARE criminals, AND some of them bring many diseases the US has had under control for decades!
Add in these people will vote too. What will they vote for? More Gov't give-away programs. After all, they have zero history as US citizens, don't understand our form of government, were never required to assimilate into the US and so on. Overall, it won't help the US one damn bit. But... it WILL be used to help Democrats remain in power, their ultimate goal.
Slightly higher taxes isn't a bad thing ya want free healthcare? Well paying to get that has to come from somewhere. You want free government support. Well taxes fund it all.

After Obama was elected the 1st time, I realized my "home" isn't here, it's UP there. I may be living here but this isn't "home". During the primaries, I saw there wasn't one Democrat who out forth ANY working ideas FOR the country. They ONLY put forth ideas that people wanted to hear. I realized then, that the DNC had already chosen who they wanted. No matter who people voted for, the DNC cheated and forced the votes for Biden, just like they cheated in the general election.

So I think just giving illegals citizenship is stupid. You're basically giving an open invitation for everyone to just come in here and be a citizen.
I remember when Cuba allowed people to immigrate to the US and they were all criminals that they wanted to drop on us to get rid of them. With good people will come the bad, just as the 9/11 hijackers did. Sometime in the future this is going to bite us in the ass worse than it already is.

Realistically, any serious plan of immigration reform is going to have to include some kind of amnesty. Neither party actually wants to provide serious reform, as it's too valuable as a problem ("they want to starve desperate children!" vs "they want to let leeches steal your tax money!"; it's GREAT at energizing the voter base). But it needn't go so far as declaring them legit; you could have some sort of provisional or conditional citizenship (or some other version of that status; I don't know all the terms they use) until a certain amount of time had passed, or earned taxes had been paid; then you'd let them take the test. Perhaps you'd declare an amnesty period during which any illegal immigrant could come forward without fear of arrest (for that particular crime, at least; even as I write this, I'm seeing problems with the idea) or deportation, then put those who do into the program to train them to citizenship. Then, when the grace period is over, you crack down, HARD, on both those who are here illegally and (more importantly) those who are hiring them. The key isn't to punish those who break the law, but to reward those who follow it.
It'd be meaningless, though, without a better means of obtaining citizenship legally. Currently, the process is basically 1. fill out six million forms in triplicate. 2. Pay a small fortune. 3. Fill out half of the six million forms again, as you wait most of a decade. 4. Roll the dice on acceptance. If you fail, go back to step one. We need a better system, and a long-term solution for those who are already here illegally won't do anything if there's not a better alternative on the other end.

It's not really about the economy, even though it affects the economy. It's about enforcing the law. Every country has the full right to control their borders. Open borders would be a major disaster. They need to make the rules, and enforce them.
Not long ago this was a bipartisan issue. Democrats and Republicans alike were calling for immigration reform. Then suddenly Democrats decided to turn it into a race issue and did a 180 practically overnight.
I think it was more like the 90s when the Democrats did their flip. There may have been some bipartisanship after 9/11, but the big call for immigration reform was before that.
The first time I remember anyone playing the race card was a proposition when I was living in California. There was a ballot measure that required all schools (or schools districts?) in California to have a native speaking teacher for every language that any students spoke. Every language imaginable is spoken in California. It was one of the stupidest propositions I've seen. It got voted down and everyone was crying racism. I might not remember the details right, but that's basically what happened.
The flip by the Democrats, and kissing illegals ass is pure politics. It's buying votes pure and simple. In this case, it's buying votes of criminals.

Amnesty for illegal aliens is and always has been terrible policy. It's a reward for breaking our laws. That provides an incentive for more law breaking. It makes no sense to provide amnesty, citizenship and the right to vote to those people whose first act of regard for the United States was to break our laws.

They should not be allowed to be citizens. They should be put in concentration camps, until they are exiled back t their home country.
Citizenship should require some sort of proof of loyalty, such as becoming a police officer for 8 years, or a soldier for 4 years.

The DREAMers should get residency and citizenship. They grew up here and contribute.
Others who have been undocumented in this country for a long time, contributing to their community, should be allowed to stay. They are here, making no trouble, integrated into their community. Deporting them is cruel and serves no useful purpose.
Some make no trouble but a lot also sell drugs and are in gangs. Plus a lot of illegals commit crimes like rape and murder as well as sex trafficing. I remember at least 2 news articles I read where an illegal raped and killed a girl. Those are two that would still be alive if they got tough on illegals.
That is because there are fewer of them. Go to a California prison and a great number of prisoners are Latinos. A lot more than whites anyways.

trump was doing a great thing with the wall while increase job availability. it was under control. supply jobs while slowly granting immigrants citizenship and having work availabile for American citizens.
Yeah I can't support Trump. He let everyone down. He actually had a chance to go down in history as one of the great presidents. He didn't have the experience in government that most of these career politicians have and they used every tool in there book to slow his progress. That being said he let his ego and mouth get in the way as well. I didn't mind the mouth or ego so much because at least it was authentic and not some act to distract so much.
@virtue2332 Exactly. If after the election Trump had just said something like, "I believe something suspicious happened in certain areas with the election results. If that's true, it'll eventually come out, and I'll be back in 2024.", he'd have one hell of a platform for the next election. Instead, his scorched earth approach has thoroughly alienated him. @The_Sal Nah man, I just can't see it that way. As frustrating and annoying as it can be, you need to give time for things to develop and be uncovered. Justice always moves at a snail's pace. The Watergate break-in took place on June 17, 1972. Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974. That's more than 2 years later, and they had evidence on tapes. If something organized happened with this past election, eventually it will all come out (if for the only reason that any potential people involved will sooner or later want a book deal payday), and running on the platform for 2024 would've been tremendous. Trump could've been the 21st century Grover Cleveland. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. 👍

Immigrants generally are good for the economy because they are generally hard-working and prepared to take jobs that natives wouldn't usually consider. However the US economy is so f***ed by COVID, lack of consumers and business investment that any benefits are likley to be very marginal.
If they are contributing to society in a positive way and already here I have no issue with that. If he is only doing it to secure 11 million more votes for the next election I have a huge problem with that
Daniela1982. I appreciate questions like this because it allows people to see other opinions and allows for communication. It also allows me to see what narrative people are identifying with and allows me to research it. I'm mixed but mostly Native American. I served in the Air force and spent time overseas. I only bring this up because having traveled and interacting with people from all different areas. One thing that I've noticed is people often cling to things they are sold by someone imposing their narrative using fear or disinformation. So I make it a point to fact check because I've noticed that a lot of what polarized us is often based on bad information or intentional misinformation. So I have to ask you where your information comes from? Is it assumed based on what you've been told or can you point me to a site that you verified the info from because if it's all true than thats not good. So far though I haven't found anything that says that we have to pay immigrants unemployment insurance. I'm fairly familiar with unemployment having worked in Hr and management. I'm self employed now so I've been away from all that for about 5 years. So if you could direct me I would appreciate that. Also the picture posted as a drug bust with illegal immigrants being held is actually a photo from a raid on a slap house or illegal casino in Garden Grove. I believe one of the guys had some previous drug charges and was on parole. Maybe the illegal casino was confused as illegal immigrants and that guys drug charged thrown in the mix. I'm not trying to say you would intentionally post misinformation I just think its important especially now with everything the way it is that we do our best to make sure we aren't mistakenly pushing a narrative that has information that can't be at least verified. Any help would be appreciated. It would help me with a project I'm working on greatly.
People who are unemployed didn't have to show much proof that they were unemployed from the first stimulus. There was no oversight with the rush job. People usually have to show proof that they are looking for a job normally. They didn't the first stimulus payment and I don't know if they now have to. So illegals could get unemployment by just applying for it. A lot of crime happens in Garden Grove with the Latino and Vietnamese population. You name it and it happens. Any bust can include many different charges depending on what turns up in searches. I've seen many younger Latinos coming for the local Social Security office off Chapman so I figure they are getting some kind of benefits from there, but have never been there myself as I can't apply for benefits for 30 years yet. The Government can do anything, just like they gave the Vietnamese when they first arrived with low interest business loans that normal people couldn't get and the Post Office had to employ them even though they could hardly read or speak English and were misdelivering mail all over the place. But it was very hard to fire them. So if the government wants to give illegals special benefits there is not much we can do but gripe.
Thats not good a lot of people took advantage of that money. I saw they even busted an NFL player it was crazy what people will do. I just want to clear up one last statement you made ok. You do realize that not all Latinos are illegal right? It just that you mentioned that you see a lot of Latinos there. I remember my grandfather saying that back in the day that he would just tell people he was Mexican because he was Native American and Mexican was a step up from Native American. People always think I'm Filipino go figure I just hope for a day that we are just classified as American because you are all illegal according to my grandfather. 😆 I don't feel that way I served my country as an American. I just happen to fall into a certain category because of the color of my skin and its an awkward position to be in. You should see the disgust on someone's face when they speak to me in Spanish or Tagalog. My ancestry Choctaw native some African and Spaniard I guess that makes islander or Mexican. Depending on where you are because the Japanese couldn't guess when I was stationed there. None of it really matters I'm American its just not a comfortable feeling when you identify strongly with being American some would argue more American than most but based on my appearance could easily be thought of as an illegal. Its just weird.
I don't care where any one comes from as long as they obey all the laws, like I am required to, and contribute by paying taxes. Coming into the country illegally, not carrying car insurance, not paying taxes by working under the table, and driving without a driver's license is not obeying the laws. When I was heavy in high school it was the Mexican girls and guys who bullied me for some reason so I have no love for them and I hated high school because of them. But we all change from what we were back then. But at least they were legal - I think...
Im sorry you went through that it sucks. I went through a lot of that same bullshit because people would assume I spoke their language. Its one thing we have to move past as a society if we are ever going to progress. I grew up in California as well but joined the Airforce as soon as I was 18 and volunteered to go overseas. I grew up not trusting white people because because thats how a lot of people in my family were. It wasn't until went to the service that I realized that I couldn't characterize a whole group of people because of the mistakes they made. I'm glad I did too or I wouldn't have my beautiful Daughter. I don't choose to deal with criminals or low life's they are in every race but not worth my time. It just sucks if your surrounded by a particular race and have bad experiences because I could see how easy it would be to develop the resentment. I try to see them as they were born innocent and curious until society robbed them of it. The only way this continues is until we all wisen up and stop passing that shit down to the next generation.

Just what we need is more unemployed people. Where I live we have a huge homeless problem with them being in encampments along freeways, under bridges, and everywhere else. Why don't we concentrate on homelessness and homeless vets? Why don't we watch over our own who need help the same as we are supposed to pay for the upkeep of illegal immigrants.

They're in your country earning a wage and not paying tax. It's a smart move. Once done, that's a lot of extra money in the governments pocket. After all isn't America the land of opportunity for all?
If they were all earning a wage above table and paying taxes, having auto and health insurance, not on welfare or unemployed there would be no problem, even though they should not have been in the country to begin with. By breaking the law and entering the country illegally I'm thinking they don't give a hoot about laws. Why are boatloads of immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, and China sent back home but Mexicans and South Americans aren't? There was talk long ago about the "Reconquest of California" by Mexico and they seem to be succeeding. If Biden opens the borders there will be a flood of immigrants from all regions of Mexico and South America. Who are going to give them all jobs or are they, and the drug cartels, going to break America as we already can't pay back the $25 Trillion in debt that has built up.

Good and bad I guess. These people by definition are criminals by entering the country without going through the naturalization process, but they could have more than that on their criminal record. Then they would take the jobs of actual legal citizens. The only benefit i can see is that it would lower inflation because more people will be using the money.

Most of them work under the table and pay no taxes. A friend's car was totaled by an illegal with no license and no insurance. That didn't do her any good nor pay for her injuries.
Yeah cause right now yes they are illegal. But if biden made them citizens then they would have to pay taxes. And then they can have the benefits a legal citizen can have. It's kinda a no brainier. When ya can get deported for trying to get insurance or a license.
When you buy insurance you aren't asked in you are legal. And in California you can get a driver's license even if you are illegal so there is no excuse. Also if you work under the table you don't declare your income so the taxes you pay are almost nil.
And that's what would change if they are legally citizens. There wouldn't be a need to run from authority.

It's definitely good for the economy, as it makes these people who are already here, able to completely engage in the economy, and completely engage in pursuits where they are most effective and most able to contribute to America.
The great majority are hard working people, who contribute to America. And you talk as if only minorities have people to use drugs and sell drugs, and take advantage of others. There are plenty of white people who don't contribute much of America.
I think Nixon and Obama gave them a amnesty back when. Now they are letting more in. Yet you try and get a bride into the US from a foreign country and you have to go through 100 hoops to get it done and $1,000's of dollars.

@darkcloud1945 That is my fear. Hospitals are for profit businesses. When they have to give free baby deliveries to illegals, who seem to have a lot of kids, as well as other procedures, they go broke eventually. I know two hospitals that went under that had served the community for years because of losing money on illegals. Making them citizens won't change that as they still won't have jobs, medical insurance or auto insurance but have the ability to have and raise a lot of kids while most people can only afford one or two.
The $600 a week benefit in addition to their normal unemployment benefits has been renewed again so these same loafers still get to sit at home or go out of state and protest, courtesy of the US Government. They will milk it to the end and only seek employment when the dumb government notices people are taking advantage of it and cut the additional benefit, the $2,400 a month benefit essential employees don't get. Only in America.
Yes, i work with them! Some work for low wage, others make over 50k a year. I agree, they have the best drugs, but that’s also why I lost a lot of friends who OD’d on heroin, easy access.

@slatyb On the reverse they can collect SS but never contribute. I have to have so much time paying in to collect anything and can't get it until I'm 65. The illegals here can collect way before they are close to 65. I don't know how that is even possible but that is the buzz I've heard.
