Would you work for 14 hours a day?

I'm a parent. I work 24 hours a day. Minimum. So does my wife. If anyone dares deny that's not "work" then clearly they're A) not parents, B) incredibly stupid

We may have chosen to become parents, but that doesn't mean it's not working 24 hours.

Right now for various reasons, the biggest being the lockdown due to the covid pandemic, we're forced to be living apart. I caught covid and spent 6 months last year in hospital. It didn't stop me having to be on duty as a father for 24 hours each day.

There's no other "job" so rewarding and so exhausting and so vital.

I have done that. Honestly its not about how society sees it, if I've learned anything jobs are just you giving your time for someone elses dream and often they dont treat you with respect for that. The best way to find the best jobs is connecting with people with similar mind sets

I've done that. You know what it got me? Told I was lazy. Yeah, didn't get promoted, didn't get a raise, didn't get recognition, then when I cut my hours I got bitched out for being to lazy to work more. Wasn't worth it and anyone who tells me that my entire existence has to revolve around spending every waking moment of my life at a dead end job that I hate can go fuck themselves with a very jagged redhot firepoker.

If it were the expectation of normalcy for me? No. To work 14 hour days and get a normal nights sleep, factoring in travel time and other such stuff leaves you with what? An hour to yourself per work day? No thanks.

Not working 14 hours a day doesn't mean you're lazy or worthless. That's just name calling. And that's on them.
If I could have every other day off, then it might not be so bad. But I would want to start with working 8 hours a day for one week, then the next week increase it to 9 hours/day and so on - instead of working 7 hours today and 14 hours the next work day.
Poor housewives and mothers have to work more than 14 hours a day and be on call 24 hours a day.

I've done 15 hours before on one cup of tea, but I felt that. Depends on the Job. I mostly do 10 Hour shifts with my current Job, but some days 12. 14 would be too much , but once a month I could manage. My Job is physically active. The Job I pulled 15 on, I was standing the whole time, was cashiering, grilling, sweeping, and wiping down tables.

I'm ALREADY seen as lazy and worthless by a big chunk of society; it's not that bad. And I've never understood the point of working so long that you have no time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. I work to live, not live to work.

But... I used to do it. One day a week, on Saturdays. I would work one job from 6am to 1pm, and then the other job from 3:30 to 11. So that was like, just over 14 hours, actually. I took a 1 hour nap in between, though.

That sounds horrendous. You need 8 hours sleep daily to keep mentally stable, Which leaves you with 2 hours free time daily which is bad.
9 hour shifts are bad enough

(Pre-pandemic) I work 14-16 hour days routinely. I still work an average of 44 hours a week, so it really just means more days off than just the weekends, with enough overtime pay to be a nice boost to my annual income.

It's unsustanable except for some weeks or months. 2-3 years tops, and only if that means paying off the bulk of a mortgage, which I think cannot be achieved anywhere now. Plus, in Europe, the unions would not allow it anyhow.

Are you kidding? When I am out of town on a job site my BASIC work day is 14 hours plus travel and team meetings.

Only Europeans can afford to work 35 hours per week.
