Can someone explain to me why a lot Hispanic Americans fly Mexico flags with USA ones? What are your thoughts on it?

A large chunk of US territory was a part of Mexico. I’m not familiar with all the other states but in Texas, the Mexican government needed to fill the land up so they invited white settlers to come live here. The white settlers refused to assimilate to Mexican government so they started a revolution to break away from the country. Many Mexicans were already here speaking Spanish and flying their flag, they didn’t want a war... the end result was obviously that they had to give up a large chunk of the land to the United States. Except Texas was able to remain and independent country. Of course there were some Mexicans who were on the Texas side too, but they still spoke the language and culture was the same. Not all of them left their Mexican pride behind though. Texas was occupied by 6 different nations, hence the term “6 Flags over Texas.” We are able to fly every one of them as high as the US flag and one of them includes the Mexican flag. It’s a piece of history that we are proud of. Tells the story of our heritage and our roots.

I don't like it either. It's like shitting all over America. Such blatant disrespect. Just like those who come into America and only speak Spanish and never bother to learn English, or attempt to. I'm learning Korean on my own right now and it's HARD AF! Way harder than learning English. I would never go "America rules! Fuck Korea!"

Because they take pride in Mexico and wish there home country was better run, They reality is there needs to be many Revolutions and south American countries including Mexico they are horribly run they are mostly in the pockets of the cartels their newest presidents. I remember when the Honduran caravans were heading this way. They were fleeing a horrible country, and yet carrying their flag of honor. When they got to the border they were throwing rocks at Americans, because they were trying to stop them from breaking the law. Nice. Seek Asylum. Throw rocks at federal officers. And carry the flag of the country you fled from.

I lived in Thailand for two years, and I would never in a million years flown an American flag there. I flew the Thai flag. Thailand was the country gracious enough to allow me to live there, and I wouldn't disrespect them by doing that.

Also, during these protests because of anti-illegal immigration, I've seen them burn the American flag.

I don't like to get too into politics (I don't take either side), at least not on here, but I think you've misunderstood them, I mean aren't people allowed to fly the flag of their own nation, as a reminder of where they're from?

People in the UK of Pakistani descent sometimes fly the Pakistan flag high on it's independence day, despite many of them being UK born, it's just basically remembering your roots and not abandoning your culture altogether, it's not an attack on the nation they moved to - if people came to the nation, then I'm pretty sure they don't hate it.

You can't just 'pick one side', that's like saying Pizza is my favourite, there's I'm not allowed to ever eat anything else.

Also, if they're flying it with the flag of the USA, why is it even an issue, it's just a reminder of their culture if anything.

Flags, countries, borders are all just man made inventions aren't they? I love to see other flags flown in the US. People should be proud of where they came from and who they are. I am proud of my country even when I no longer live in the country where I was born.

It has to do with their culture. They did occupy a good chunk of the United States as it was growing as a nation with Texas being a big one to go with New Mexico and Arizona, but that aside, it is also their first amendment right. There is no issue with it.

Much like how people fly flags if they were in a particular branch in the military, from another country in this case or even if they fly the Confederate Flag. They have a right to do so because it is about culture and free speech. You may not understand it and you don't have to like it, but you definitely have no right to encroach on it. Make sense?

They're proud of their heritage. It doesn't mean they're not happy to be here or don't like America. It's a complete non-issue for me.

Now let's worry about something more important, why a lot of Southerners still fly the Confederate flag. And often it's the only flag they're flying. Shouldn't people be more worried about that?

I fly a Polish flag to celebrate where I came from too. Have I betrayed the US? No. In the US, the people who are betraying the US are people who fly confederate flags, because that literally symbolizes a desire to dismantle our union.

They do so because Mexico is originally their home. Their are many people in the US from other nations that fly their home flags and there is nothing wrong with that. Kinda the same if you leave your hometown because there are better opportunities in another state, yet you still miss home for some of the memories and good times.

Hispanic/Latinos are a weird bunch to boot. The sort of people who are "proud" of being from a place their parents (usually illegally) ran from.

But you could say they feel this makes them "American," as White Americans too fled Europe to come to the Americas. The only difference being the White Americans killed all the natives, stole their land and celebrate the fact each year with "Thanksgiving". Hispanics just rent it instead, and wave a flag ironically.

I only have a problem with the 2nd pic. I don't have a problem with people being proud of their heritage. I don't have a problem with people being proud of whete they come from. Even if they're fleeing there. I can understand how that's still home to them. But as the country that took them in i do think they should show a level of respect.
But back to the 2nd pic. It's ok to fly another flag be it foreign or state. But those flags should NEVER be flown higher then then old glory.

If you are an American citizen, as long as you pledge your first allegiance to the United States, I don't see anything wrong with flying a flag of another country... typically one that is part of your national heritage.

But I think that the American flag should take priority if both flags are displayed. For example, the foreign flag should be underneath the US flag. This shows respect and allegiance to your country.

I think that any US citizen that cannot take a pledge of allegiance to the US should have their citizenship revoked. If you don't appreciate the value of your country, you have no business enjoying the privileges it confers on you.

Mexico and the US share a lot if history together. And we share a similar story too. It is especially prominent in the South that borders Mexico. That sale thing is common up here in Minnesota with Canada. We play the US and Canadian National Anthems at all our Rodeos. Plus some Mexicans might just be proud of their heritage. Very common in Latin America.

I don't have a problem with having pride in your country of origin, but when at a protest for more immigration should you not fly the American flag as this is the country you are hoping to join?

Flying another countries flag makes them seem more like invaders.

The same reason German Americans fly the German flag, French Americans fly the French flag, Brazilian Americans fly the Brazilian flag with the USA flag.

Hispanic Americans are a huge group, so that covers a lot of groups.

The are proud of both cultures.

It's their right dude. In America, you can fly any flag be it Mexican, Confederate, Nazi, LGBT+, or even Coca fuckin cola. That's just how it is. You don't like the freedom, go move to China, as that "one flag" policy there is only violated by people who choose quiet death. Sounds like your cup of tea. :D

i mean i'm not mexican of origin and i'm not someone, who'd wave a flag in general... but having said that, i would assume that you can be as proud of your heritage as much as you can be proud of your current home country of choice.

Most of these Mexicans weren't even born in Mexico, but in the US. A lot of Chicanos struggle to find a balance between their Americaness and their Mexicaness. I don't see anything wrong with having loyalty to your home country and your motherland, but I always think your home country should come first. What pisses ME is when these people have more loyalty to Mexico, then to the US

What don't you understand? They fly the flags of their two homes. I'm American and also Italian. I too would fly both the American and the Italian flag. How is that confusing?
