Yes, it is, but it works in a good way. I'm not sure what your experience is with modelling as a man, but it is so so much easier than the crap women put themselves through. You know why? We have a limit where we just find a different job and won't put up with that crap.

I would describe myself as slightly above average in looks in the face, for my age about the same body wise. I could still line up a paid photo shoot because male models are needed, and there is such a thing as supply and demand. Women will poison themselves and each other to show up on the next cover of vogue. Ask any male model what cover shoots he's been on, unless the photographer told him ahead of time, he probably has no idea. I sure as hell don't.

So, yeah, it's a sexist system, but it's one of very very few that work in our favor. Most likely you don't see any male super models because any guy who has the potential to climb that hill would rather get into acting or marketing then pursue a career that is a dead end. Granted, we can model for longer than women, female super models end their careers sooner, oh so much sooner, I could be 50, or 60, hit the gym for a little while and do some shoots for men's fitness magazines.

Look into it, you can do the same right now, guar un teed. Seriously, go onto any modeling site or agency, take some selfies, give it a week or two (month tops if you're heavy), you're on the runway baby. Ask a woman your age to do the same, pitiful.

The feminists would have people believe that it’s about the so called “Male gaze” which is nothing more than horse doo doo. It’s just that feminists don’t want to admit that Women aren’t as visual as men are when it comes to sexual attraction, so there’s no reason for male modeling to be promoted as much. Partly, but not against men. The reason that there are more female supermodels is that the female body is sexualized far more than the male body. Therefore women are used to market things to men. Men are more likely to pay attention to a commercial if there are boobs in it.


The part that isn’t related to sexism is the part which is marketed toward other women. Which is fashion. Fashion itself is sexualized, so I guess you could say that is related to sexism as well. But I don’t think the fashion industry itself is a result of sexism. They’re connected. But one is not the product of the other. So that part of the female modeling industry isn’t related to sexism. The modeling industry is about consuming beauty and turning it into a product. Female models are more lucrative because people want to value and devalue the appearance of women. Men will throw their life savings just to have access to female beauty and pleasure. And women, being insecure, will throw their life savings just to imitate the unspoken “standard” that men want. I think women value physical beauty in men less than men value physical beauty in women, or at least, they aren’t as influenced by it or obsessed with it. Women actually seem to admire fellow female beauty more, from what I’ve seen, maybe because they aspire to be more beautiful themselves due to social pressure and conditioning, as they view their own value as largely dependent on their looks. But to key back in on the “influence” aspect, ultimately, supermodels exist to sell shit, usually clothing, sometimes makeup or other personal beauty or personal care products. Men don’t wrap as much of their personal value into their looks, we often get our desirability from other traits. So whether you’re selling to a man or a woman, the female model just seems to make a more dramatic impact on men and women alike for brand/product recognition, which, again, is the endgame. There are plenty of men out there who could probably be supermodels too, but the demand just isn’t the same.

There's a few major magazines that have been devoted to men's fashion: GQ and Esquire. How many are there devoted to women's fashions? A dozen?
It's not "masculine" to be involved in being a fashion trendsetter. It's considered "affected." Unusual. Different.
Women have always been considered to be the beautiful sex. Men have not, though they are just as beautiful: It's a different type of beauty. Most men don't care about models, so the industry can't really profit on them, so that is the one reason.

There's many men models out there that are famous or notorious enough, and I can't still name or describe one man model... most I can remember is that guy that was in jail and then got out to be a model... lol

And about current supermodels that are women, I don't know much either, I can name that one Gigi, and also the Kardashian sister I think she's a super one too, I guess, and maybe that Barbara something with the interesting eyes.

Let's be honest. Straight women are attracted to the male body, however they have no desire to really see it unless they're into you as a person. There's no demand for male models. Clothing stores dedicate no more than 20% of their space towards men's/unisex clothing. And all male specific clothing stores sell nothing but those boring looking suits.

Generally, men aren't as impressed as women are by the entire fashion and beauty industry. They aren't the ideal target, so male models aren't pushed forward in the public eye. Also, even if men are into fashion, they're less likely to care about the models - while women are more curious about that said model's life, beauty routine, even personal life.

No it's a response to businesses, models usually sell clothes and accessories. Women is the target market so they need female models. Men buy less of this and hench has a smaller market footprint. You don't sell what men wants with male models unless it is cloths. Computers and other tech gadgets have no need for models in the marketing and the sport stars is selling the sport stuff.

The purpose of modelling is to sell products and services. So free enterprise dictates that companies will use whichever models generate the most profits. And for whatever reasons, that just so happens to be female models more often than male models.
