Why are there barely any male super models. Is it sexism?

- Yes, it is, but it works in a good way. I'm not sure what your experience is with modelling as a man, but it is so so much easier than the crap women put themselves through. You know why? We have a limit where we just find a different job and won't put up with that crap.
I would describe myself as slightly above average in looks in the face, for my age about the same body wise. I could still line up a paid photo shoot because male models are needed, and there is such a thing as supply and demand. Women will poison themselves and each other to show up on the next cover of vogue. Ask any male model what cover shoots he's been on, unless the photographer told him ahead of time, he probably has no idea. I sure as hell don't.
So, yeah, it's a sexist system, but it's one of very very few that work in our favor. Most likely you don't see any male super models because any guy who has the potential to climb that hill would rather get into acting or marketing then pursue a career that is a dead end. Granted, we can model for longer than women, female super models end their careers sooner, oh so much sooner, I could be 50, or 60, hit the gym for a little while and do some shoots for men's fitness magazines.
Look into it, you can do the same right now, guar un teed. Seriously, go onto any modeling site or agency, take some selfies, give it a week or two (month tops if you're heavy), you're on the runway baby. Ask a woman your age to do the same, pitiful.0|00|0Is this still revelant? - Anonymous14 dThe feminists would have people believe that it’s about the so called “Male gaze” which is nothing more than horse doo doo. It’s just that feminists don’t want to admit that Women aren’t as visual as men are when it comes to sexual attraction, so there’s no reason for male modeling to be promoted as much. Men however are very visual when it comes to sexual attraction, even just the sight of a woman’s bare abdomen showing when she stretches is enough to turn us guys on. So that’s why women’s modeling is a thing.0|00|0Is this still revelant?
No it is not more like more women buy fashion magazine and high fashion clothes and are more interested in fashion
- Opinion Owner13 d
@Yyyyu Female supermodels aren’t only used to promote fashion, they are also used to promote other products like cars, tools, food, movies etc. It’s all about getting more customers and they know that hot women attract male customers.
Why do you think most action movies tend to have at least one hot female character, because without any hot females, the movie becomes a sausage fest. No straight likes sausage fests.
Most of the time a celebrity like Ronaldo get big deals lol not models and ads also have male models and female models have more status because of doing magazine and high fashion runway.
- Show All Show Less
Most of the cast in action movies are men and get most screen time. One girl don't mean that it is not sausage fest if it is true why guys watch sports? Isn't it sausage fest and many video games have all male cast still popular among men.
- Opinion Owner11 d
@Yyyyu
Ronaldo is a celebrity, women aren’t attracted to his looks. They are attracted to his social status. Do you really think he’d get female attention if he weren’t famous?
All there needs to be is one hot chick for male audiences to be pleased. Video games are different, most guys would rather play as a male character than a female character for obvious reasons.

- Partly, but not against men. The reason that there are more female supermodels is that the female body is sexualized far more than the male body. Therefore women are used to market things to men. Men are more likely to pay attention to a commercial if there are boobs in it.
The part that isn’t related to sexism is the part which is marketed toward other women. Which is fashion. Fashion itself is sexualized, so I guess you could say that is related to sexism as well. But I don’t think the fashion industry itself is a result of sexism. They’re connected. But one is not the product of the other. So that part of the female modeling industry isn’t related to sexism. But the first part I mentioned is.2|40|0Is this still revelant? - The modeling industry is about consuming beauty and turning it into a product. Female models are more lucrative because people want to value and devalue the appearance of women. Men will throw their life savings just to have access to female beauty and pleasure. And women, being insecure, will throw their life savings just to imitate the unspoken “standard” that men want. It’s all centered around the male gaze in general. And yes there are layers of sexism to be discussed because it goes hand in hand with patriarchy. It starts with men and ends with women, so it’s everybody’s fault at the end of the day.2|30|2Is this still revelant?

1855- Real men are barely able to even be seen by the freakazoids with rabid socio-political agendas that are trying to rewrite our values with degeneracy, and drive us to extinction. Increasingly, real men have trouble getting In. Sissies and weirdos get top billing. Narcissistic gender benders too. And even traditional women don't have as easy a time. Sure, they'll be let in the door, and don't have to worry about being catcalled like in the past, but they face harassment of a worse kind now: ideological purity tests. Diet of Worms, Spanish Inquisition, and Salem Witch Trials all in one! Affirm allegiance to the rainbow gods, as defined by the DNC any crony corporatist fascists, or you're out. And your whole family must suffer. The mistreatment of Miss California 2009 was a prelude to it all.0|00|0
- I think women value physical beauty in men less than men value physical beauty in women, or at least, they aren’t as influenced by it or obsessed with it. Women actually seem to admire fellow female beauty more, from what I’ve seen, maybe because they aspire to be more beautiful themselves due to social pressure and conditioning, as they view their own value as largely dependent on their looks. But to key back in on the “influence” aspect, ultimately, supermodels exist to sell shit, usually clothing, sometimes makeup or other personal beauty or personal care products. Men don’t wrap as much of their personal value into their looks, we often get our desirability from other traits. So whether you’re selling to a man or a woman, the female model just seems to make a more dramatic impact on men and women alike for brand/product recognition, which, again, is the endgame. There are plenty of men out there who could probably be supermodels too, but the demand just isn’t the same.0|00|0
- Sure it is. Men aren't supposed to be pretty, aren't supposed to earn their bread by their "looks" or by wearing clothes created by fussy designers.
There's a few major magazines that have been devoted to men's fashion: GQ and Esquire. How many are there devoted to women's fashions? A dozen?
It's not "masculine" to be involved in being a fashion trendsetter. It's considered "affected." Unusual. Different.
Women have always been considered to be the beautiful sex. Men have not, though they are just as beautiful: It's a different type of beauty. It consists of being bigger, more muscular, angular, wider in the shoulders, narrower in the hips. It's "power" beauty, whereas feminine beauty is "passive" beauty.2|00|0 - If it is the economic system, or the culture. Than this system and this culture is sexist.
If you notice this fashion thing more between the women themselves. When they fulfill themselves by looks more than anything else. This leaves them out of many tables.0|00|0 - Most men don't care about models, so the industry can't really profit on them, so that is the one reason.
There's many men models out there that are famous or notorious enough, and I can't still name or describe one man model... most I can remember is that guy that was in jail and then got out to be a model... lol
And about current supermodels that are women, I don't know much either, I can name that one Gigi, and also the Kardashian sister I think she's a super one too, I guess, and maybe that Barbara something with the interesting eyes.0|01|0Most men don’t care about models? Then female models wouldn’t be popular. What you said literally makes no sense and is false. Wtf
@Aphrodite801 I’m pretty sure he meant Men don’t care about male models. They’re not interested in the anonymous face in an advert for a watch.
- Show All Show Less
Females care about male models. Why the hell would male models care about men caring about them? Like I said it makes no sense. And I’m pretty sure I didn’t ask you.
People on this site are so angry.
What he said makes perfect sense. You just can’t make sense of it. The issue is not what he saidNo it didn’t, you’re just as stupid as him which is why you think it makes sense. People on this site seem angry to you because you’re always saying dumb shit to them, making them angry.
@Aphrodite801 I clearly said most men do not care male... male, male models.
About female models I made a distinction, and I did represent the fact that even if I do not care much about (current) female (super) models personally, I do know female models indeed. "super ones"Male Models used in product advertisement for men are supposed cater for men. They look good to us, but we aren’t buying what they are selling. We aren’t the target market.
In those adverts, guys don’t care about the random male model wearing the product.@Aphrodite801 Females care about models, okay... I was aware of that and I never said it wasn't the case.
It doesn't matter if male models care or not, what matters here is the industry marketing, male modles not only have a lot less to model but also their impact and reach on the industry marketing is very very limited, and if this wasn't that case, then the industry would push them as much as they do with female models,. and they clearly do not, so financially speaking is not profitable and that's why is not happening.
Most men do not spend as heavily into fashion as women do and here I am talking about the broader picture, and not specific or particular cases.
The question was specific to the top of the model industry
female SUPER models vs male SUPER models. Why would MALES care about male models? Male models obviously still do profit off of male and female customers so what you said is still a bunch of crap
@Aphrodite801 You're just a little bit full of your own issues right now, and for some reason you want to take it on me, I do not mind this one bit, vent off.
🤣🤣 oh okay you are trolling, makes sense. Well this conversation is done then lol, lonely cat man.
@Aphrodite801 yes, I know they profit... but they do not bring enough nor the same profit as the female models will do, hence... less projection they have.
The industry makes the rules, and that was the point of this question, is not sexism but business what makes this things happen the way they do.@Aphrodite801 If this conversation is over, is because you realized you were wrong, and probably because you have also realized that I am not the one thing you're hating right now, so you just can't keep off with your charade.
It’s obviously done because I said it’s done. Wow you really aren’t smart huh, old age getting to ya? Bye byee! Have fun being an ignorant 🤡.
Everyone, ignore Aphrodite, she's rude and aggressive towards anyone who disagrees with her on anything. If you were on her question, she'd probably block you and delete your answer too, as well as call you ignorant, when 99% of her questions revolve around attack men.
- Are you likely to buy clothing because some other guy is wearing it and walking up and down a runway? I can tell you personally I’m not. Women are more easily manipulated by image of celebrity and popularity. They let other people think for them and follow the leader of the group hive mind...0|00|0
If modeling and advertising worked on men, 70-80% of consumer purchases wouldn’t be made by women. Men want facts about products, they want durability and destruction tests to see quality craftsmanship, etc. All the things that sell men, have nothing to do with image.
- Anonymous14 dYes it is sexism because objectively men are more beautiful than women, at least there is a higher potential for beauty.
In a purely objective world free from male lust, the most beautiful maybe men, as they have the keenest abilities to interact with the fierceness of nature. But womens beauty is tied up in the idea of pregnancy and nursing of children--the kingdom of Heaven, our perpetual last hope.
In other words the beauty of women is bound up in the metaphysical beauty of children.0|00|0 - Let's be honest. Straight women are attracted to the male body, however they have no desire to really see it unless they're into you as a person. They're sent dick pics on the daily on social media and dating apps. Female bodies will eternally be beautiful and always get mens attention, no matter how many naked female bodies men have seen. So females have appeal to both genders and males don't appeal AS MUCH to both genders. That's why I'd say there's a much larger demand for female models than men.1|00|0
- Women are the fairer sex for one thing. And also because women make up 3/4's of total sales across the board. So you would want to cater to the ones making you the most money. And having guys turn their heads and say "I bet my girlfriend would look good in that" also helps sales numbers lol.0|00|0
- Simple fact is if you consider fashion industry, it mainly targets women and lot of experimental clothing are done for women they have varieties as compared to men.
But don't worry my friend the amount of dress people are decreasing now people will wear kerchiefs just to cover the required elements and fashion will cease to exist0|00|0 - Before You ask that Kind of question, just Google IT and See that you're Wrong...
Every male Actor, football player, soccer player and so on is an male supermodel...
Chris Hemsworth who played Thor, actual makes more money through model work than through the avengers movies... same with his brother0|00|0 - There's no demand for male models. Clothing stores dedicate no more than 20% of their space towards men's/unisex clothing. And all male specific clothing stores sell nothing but those boring looking suits.
Most men don't care about it. Most men are OK with showing up looking like they just came from a construction site or from mining ore.0|00|0 - What do you deem a super model? Someone with that title only or could someone like David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo or Chris Hemsworth be deemed one since they appear in various ads and sponsorships etc.
Another thing, that photo they all bloody look the same practically. Who would be interested if they where the fucking gold standard? I know it's just a picture but get my point?0|00|0 - Because girls are more about looks than guys (unless you are gay which is essentially the same as a girl).
What makes girls attractive are looks. What makes guys attractive is money and power.
The proof? All the ugly rich guys you see with the hottest women.0|00|0Really? mark zuckerberg bill gates most people date people who are as attractive as them.
and it don't make them attractive most women don't date for Money some do some guys also do. see celine dion boyfriend and you hear problem like cheating and dead bedroom and divorce it happen when a girl marry guy she don't find attractive
The other proof? Womens' cosmetics and clothing is one of the biggest industries in the world. Men's clothing is a tiny percentage of the size.
- Show All Show Less
Women dress to impress each other more than guys as for guys thing like height matter and also body way more men go to gym. men mostly wear casual clothes because it look better on them anyway
- lol,
where's the call for:
Male plus sized models
Female garbage collectors
Male Teachers
Female chess players
Higher salary for male porn stars
Ugly people as super heroes
Fat action stars
Strange thing is, the only area where we see the most honesty in media is in porn...
WTF?0|00|0 - It isn't sexism, it's capitalism.
Generally, men aren't as impressed as women are by the entire fashion and beauty industry. They aren't the ideal target, so male models aren't pushed forward in the public eye. Also, even if men are into fashion, they're less likely to care about the models - while women are more curious about that said model's life, beauty routine, even personal life.1|10|0 - No it's a response to businesses, models usually sell clothes and accessories. Women is the target market so they need female models. Men buy less of this and hench has a smaller market footprint. You don't sell what men wants with male models unless it is cloths. Computers and other tech gadgets have no need for models in the marketing and the sport stars is selling the sport stuff.0|10|0
- The purpose of modelling is to sell products and services. So free enterprise dictates that companies will use whichever models generate the most profits. And for whatever reasons, that just so happens to be female models more often than male models.0|00|0
- If men were as crazy and whiney as women there'd be a law that every company has to have 50% makes models that are paid the same regardless of if there is any public demand for this. Just like we do with every profession that men are better at. Ever see a bunch of men protesting because there are too many female nurses?0|00|0

Mariano Di Vaio

there are quite a few
Many Male actors cross over into modelling ( or many Male models, like Brad Pitt, cross over into acting) Male sports stars also seem to dominate the Male model world. A well known face seems to sell better.
On a general catwalk, there are just as many male models as female.0|01|0I did notice many actors and athtletes got the contracts for modeling... and also how many female models got movie roles, replacing action actresses.
@NathanDavis I think it’s mainly because sports stars and “cool” actors are idolised. It’s influence. If the person you would be in an ideal world has one, the appeal of the product is higher.

@Dontaaa She just went all in, before reading well what I said, it happens, the impetuosity of youth, I remember it well, now I am just a lonely cat man... lmao

- Men get nominated in GQ and Time magazine for sexiest man alive, most sexy man of the year, that sort of thing.0|00|0
- Just like male sports industry is bigger and more profitable, female fashion is bigger and more profitable.
No sexism, just money.0|00|0 - Market forces at work Not much demand for male models , and BOTH genders overall consider the female gender to be the much more visually desirable gender.0|00|0
- if the left believed in half the shit they say they would say yes. i on the other hand as an adult understand that inequality of outcome is a natural part of life and is not a sign of discrimination0|00|0
- It is definitely sexism. There are hardly any white players in the NBA which is blatant sexism.0|00|0
- No, most likely, men aren't as interested in modeling as women are.0|20|0
- I don't think so. The world of men's fashion is MUCH narrower than women's, and that's mostly due to different personal priorities; men simply don't care about clothes the way women do.0|20|0
This is something quite noticeable on the news, and sports news... men will seem to have the exact same outfit for years and years, some shade of black, some blue very minimal changes, perhaps the tie.
While most women will aim to have a new outfit every single day, or at least they won't repeat them as much. and it won't be just the clothing, but the shoes, the hair, accessories, make up and what not.
And I am not against any of that, it's just something easy to notice, male fashion is not as profitable as female fashion.
- Most men don't like modeling and we aren't attractive compared to women, plus most people don't look at them0|00|0
- No it’s not sexism because there’s a larger market for female models since they’re used in more advertising, shows etc. The fashion industry’s main market is women, this is why it makes sense that there are more female supermodels.1|20|0
- Tell us what a 'male super model' is.
Is that like a fast car? LOL0|00|0 - My guess is men but less clothes dude and its just commercial dynamics thing.0|00|0
- It is pure business women are more into fashion and buy fashion magazine etc0|00|0
- Anonymous13 dbecause people don't give a shit about looking at guys. not even women do. guys and women want to look at other women for their bodies and figures because it's more appeasing to the eye and more eye candy0|00|0

- I think people prefer to look at female Models so the female ones get more attention and money1|10|0
- Not necessarily. The target market are women. Like there aren’t any male cheerleaders.0|00|0
- Anonymous14 dNo. Its just one of the jobs more popular with women. Nothing to do with sexism. And wtf would anyone want to look at male models? Thats gay. This is one of the few jobs that should stay mostly for women. If they hired more men they should look luke sterotypical incels. Because you don't usually see models that looks lie that either0|00|1
See francisco lachowski he is handsome most male models are. there are more women model because women buy fashion magazine and high fashion clothes and watch runway and fashion
- Less of a market from men. I've had the same shoes for 2 years.0|00|0
- Well not technically, it's based on the male or the fashion designer who need a specific body to his clothes0|00|0

- Men aren't groupthinkers on the same level women are. We dont buy clothing based on magazine ads, billboards, mainstream media and social media posters. Men dont buy a shirt just because some handsome model looks good in a poster. Women do.0|00|1
- All the attractive men have gone in hiding. So of course it’s not sexism.1|00|0
- There are plenty.
Men wear clothes too.
Designers design for both sexes.1|00|0 - There are they just don't get as much attention as girls0|00|0
- Anonymous13 dFunny how women understand how business works at this instance but when women are paid less in a profession or are hired less, they lose their minds.0|00|0
The reason that there are more female than male supermodels is that there is a higher demand for female models than there is for male models. This distinction makes sense because the male and female figures are different.
Are you going to make the case that there is a higher demand for male doctors than female doctors? Or a higher demand for male lawyers than female lawyers? Because if so, you may want to rethink your position.
I’ve seen semi-decent arguments against fixing the wage-gap. This isn’t one of them.It depend it don't matter that male athlete are earning more because more people watch male sports
