So I know this Turkish girl who so obsessively want to show everyone that she is European. I absolutely have no clue why she is trying so hard on it. When she talks with an Asian she would say things like "You Asians...", "Is it so in Asia?", "Here in Europe it's..." etc.
I once got involved in an argument with her after she acted rude to a Filipino guy. She called him a "Stupid Asian." I lost my patience and said, "Stupid Asian? Then what are you? You're the one who is stupid enough to not know about your own origins. Whether you like to accept it or not you are Asian too. I know that some 1% of your country is in Europe, but Europe doesn't count your country as a part of Europe. Even your ancestors are Asians. Stop being so rude and dramatic, I don't see anything bad about anyone being Asian."
She has a friend who is also Turkish, and she is no different. I met a few Turkish guys too but they were nice and weren't mean like those girls.
I have nothing against Turkey or Turks. Your country is a beautiful place, and I know that many Turks are friendly people, but I just don't understand what's the hype about trying to prove yourselves as European, especially when someone behaves like this.
Why do Turks want to claim themselves as European?

Istanbul is within the continent of Europe and if she is from Istanbul then she is European and has the right to claim to be European. Also, 2000 years ago Anatolia, the precursor to Turkey was known to many as Galatia which was a Celtic nation and the Celts are usually thought of as European. A lot of their DNA is Celtic as a result.

Turkey is in the unenviable situation of falling into the category they dislike. They want to be seen as developed and powerful but they are on the fringe of that and they are fairly hostile towards Asians and Middle Easterns yet they arguably fall inside that category themselves. Furthermore historically they are part of the Roman and Byzantine Empire and they also can't really let go of this European heritage.
As such Turkey is suffering from a sort of identity crisis.
She's using the label of Asia and Europe and you're using the same labels. You're arguing she's Asian, she would argue she's European at the end of the day the argument will come to a standstill because there is no definitive line where Europe ends and Asia begins.
I would challenge your friend to move beyond those labels. It's quite racist and it's more destructive than conducive to a harmonious society.
Well see the funny part about Turkey is that there is European part (aka Istanbul, Izmir, lets sum it up as north Turkey) and the Asian part. Now if this girl is from Istanbul then hell yeah she is European and definitely not Asian. As for her behavior I have no words.
And Turkey is in the European union. So that validates that she is European.

You're pretty ignorant and on the same side as her, just side by side.
Turkey is in Europe. It's simple geography. It's even in the shortlist to join the EU.
But what you're confused about is their being bigoted towards others. It's not because they're Turkish or European. But because they're callous and have little tolerance and understanding of others or their culture.
15% of Turkish land is in Europe 85% in Asia. France has a bigger chunk of land with French Guiana in South America, does it make France a South American country?

No it never happens. I’m Turkish myself. You should focus on why Westerners believe the race Middle Eastern intead. Because it doesn’t exist. But you don’t care about that right. When you refer As Middle Eastern and have expectation people to look as you ecpected is normal, i saw million times people do this and even harrass Turkish people over it. But it’s not okay to say European? Be honest for one fucking time please. Who cares? It’s just a land. A lot less harming comparing judging people how they look. There is only a disgusting ego behind your question.

They're racist and the Nazis of the Middle East, so they need to feel superior.

It's because 3% of their land is in Europe. But I don't think that it makes someone European. Bermuda islands belong to England but it doesn't make them a group of European islands.

I don’t know but they’re not and never will be European. They’re West Asians.

American, in all but nationality, in other words.
