Why does the janitor keep addressing me as ma'am?

I’m a big “miss” guy, basically until you’ve got a full head of gray hair. But some people only think in terms of “ma’am” and “sir”, so if you’re older than a teenager you might get “ma’am.” I think it’s just meant respectfully, I wouldn’t trip about it.

I've learned to stop calling people ma'am. I used to call everyone either sir or ma'am, but for some reason women find it offensive, rather than respectful (which is how I meant it).

it most likely because he has been told to by the management like a man being called sir, my dad worked in a hotel for a few months he refused to say either but then he was only waiting for a new job to start

It’s out of respect , I’ve even had people call me mam and I’m young LOL. It’s literally no big deal I wouldn’t see why that’ll be on your mind. .

you're definitely overthinking it.. Seriously if you're that upset over someone calling you Ma'am there is something wrong with you. He is in the service industry, That term is used regardless of age in that industry.

It is out of respect to me. or maybe he just doesn't care and calls all ladies ma'am. Whatever the case may be, it is not that serious.
