Yes I heard of that also. Slavery was practiced on a global scale it seems. But you guys never complain about it? Why not?
"you guys" what exactly are you assuming that I am.
You’re Native American?
I'm pale AF, so I doubt it.
What's your point? That blacks are bigger victims? You realize that many of these Africans were sold to Whites by... Their fellow Africans, who were slave owners in Africa?
I wouldn't assume they were few in number: news.osu.edu/.../In addition, Davis's figures only include slaves taken from what is now Western Europe- it doesn't include those enslaved by the Ottomans (it looks like Davis estimated 2 million Europeans brought to North Africa and the Middle East as slaves). The point is that the existence of slavery is much broader than what we're usually taught at school.
Maybe YOU feel guilt. Most people don't. The only ones who should feel guilt are all dead- the slave traders in Africa who sold them and the slaveholders and overseers in the US.
@Avicenna Doth protest too much Avila. I’m sure you can see the domino effect from civil rights and before.
I see abject failure in Democratic policies in the past 55+ years designed to keep as many African-Americans as dependent on government as possible rather than building private wealth, in stark contrast to what Booker T Washington envisioned. Democrats should feel guilty about that and the poor state of public education for many African-Americans.
@Avicenna As opposed to being dependent on local businesses? Black poverty is an issue for a reason.
Who's "dependent on local businesses"? There were and are plenty of black-owned businesses and the businesses you claim they're dependent on need employees. No one is better off with government handouts than they are with stable employment, managing money well and being a long-term homeowner.
@Avicenna so you don’t see a problem with black poverty rates?
I see a problem with poverty in general, not just among one group- would you agree that poverty among all races is a problem? Solutions to reduce poverty in general would also benefit African-Americans. https://www.povertyusa.org/facts
@Avicenna Joking aside, you don’t think blacks having double the poverty rate of whites is a direct correlation to how we’ve treated that community for centuries?
Don't be vague- come out and say exactly what you mean. Be clear. But make sure whatever you come up with can explain why over 40 million whites are also living in poverty.
Do you get mad as a white person that you people were slaves also tho?
i'm not white
I thought you were larping?
