Soldiers in WW1 found out pretty quickly that long rifles and bayonets were not useful when raiding trenches as they were long, slow, and very easy to see coming and deflect. Bayonets got shorter, but that only made a crappy situation slightly better. Many soldiers made improvised clubs out of anything they could find in an abandoned house like table legs, floor boards, fence stakes, nails, barbed wire, and so on and used those when raiding a trench. I took up the concept a bit for fun because I enjoy crafting and using my own ideas to see what I can come up with. The wood one is made from a wooden rod I found randomly by a tree near work, and the metal one I found at a flea market for $4. I have no idea what it's original purpose was, but I quickly started thinking about what can be done to make it more trench worthy, so I used hose clamps to hold nails against it and a drill to pull them as tightly as possible, this would be my choice. What would your trench club look like?
