Lethal force is authorized if a threat of great bodily harm or deadly force on part of the aggressor is evident. The aggressor seemed to have a firearm, so there is zero obligation or requirement to use rubber bullets or other non-lethal methods. You want to kill the dude if he has a gun, not use non-lethal methods because that could give him the possibility of still being in the fight. The volley is to ensure he is dead and can’t shoot back. You’d be surprised how much it takes to kill a person. People have survived getting shot in the head, shot multiple times in the body and fought still, stabbed and fought, etc.
Not just possessing a firearm, but pointing it & waving it in a threatening orientation to the officers for the them to use deadly force.
Again The first shot put him down. And he wasn’t moving. I’m not saying policing isn’t hard but if you’re skittish go work at the mall.
You nor I don’t know if the dude was moving or not. Either way, you shoot to KILL. So, the volley is perfectly justifiable if deadly force is justified which in this case it was.
Actually no. You shouldn’t shoot to kill. You shoot to disable or disarm. Cops go to jail for shooting to kill. Not as many as they should though…
Legally, that’s what is outlined. Nowhere does it say you should or ought to shoot to disable or disarm. You don’t know what firearms are for don’t you? They’re for killing people, that’s why there’s such a thing as NON-LETHAL. Shooting to disarm or disable is Hollywood movie/cinematic, where the perp’s gun is shot out of his or her hand by someone’s near impossible-to-replicate accuracy. In other words, it holds no viability in real life, especially in self-defense or tactical situations.
Well true. It just seems in the age of auto driving cars we could invent a non lethal gun that completely disables a person harmlessly.
I’m all for it man, if it works the way you ideally want it to work, it’ll surely save more lives and I think that’s a good thing. Currently, unfortunately, we don’t have such a thing. Perhaps in the future, something like what you envision will exist and I think there’s a good probability that such a thing WILL definitely exist.
Doesn’t seem “in demand” as the iPhones.
You could be very right.
What do you mean?
We need people to police the police. This is a very bad situation.
So, you think police were wrong to shoot?
