Dont you pay taxes? Where will the govt get the money to dispense to black people?
The same way the government gets the money to spend $725 billion on the military
@CreamySeed instead of us buyers why don’t you go after your own people that sold you?
It gets that military money from you fool 😭
debts aren't inhereted, and blame doesn't pass on to relatives.
@CreamySeed That’s intentionally missing the point
@TheSpaceGnome The UN Basic Principles states that if a person or entity other than the state can be found liable for the violations and abuses endured, such party is responsible for providing reparation either directly to the victim or through compensating the state for reparations rendered. That’s what I’m referring to when I mean “debt”
You can read the principles and guidelines set by the UN for reparations here; www.ohchr.org/.../remedyandreparation.aspx
"if a person or entity other than the state can be found liable for the violations and abuses endured" A person is only liable if guilty, and no one is guilty of acts commited by someone else. My point still stands.
Well in the case of slavery it’s tricky because in reality African Americans should’ve been given reparations much earlier so we wouldn’t have this problem. So we could just have the reparations be paid by the US government.Than again the US government is in violation of so many UN, domestic, and international policies so I doubt reparations will ever be paid
No, the people who were slaves are the only ones who should get reperations, and the people who were slavers are the only ones who should pay it, neither party exists anymore in the US, so no reparations should be given.
Yes, the people who were slaves should get reparations. But the US government is at fault for starting the trans Atlantic slave trade so shifting the blame isn’t solving anything when you can’t disagree America had enabled the enslavement of an entire group of people for 246 years. The individuals in which are supposed to receive this reparations are specified by the UN as being “Victims of violations of international human rights or humanitarian law have the rights to prompt, sufficient, and effective reparation. Victims can be individuals or a collective group of individuals who suffered similar violations. Such victims, as defined by the UN Basic Principles on the matter, are:"Persons who individually or collectively suffered harm, including physical or mental injury, emotional suffering, economic loss, or substantial impairment of their fundamental rights, through acts or omissions that constitute gross violations of international human rights law, or serious violations of international humanitarian law… the immediate family or dependants of the direct victim and persons who have suffered harm in intervening to assist victims in distress or to prevent victimization”As you can see, the victims immediate family is included, therefore if reparations were not paid, the US still has an obligation under The United Nations Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law to pay these reparations.I’ll also remind you that after slavery was abolished, it’s not like the suffering and humans rights violations ended. We had segregation, several lynchings, murders, the formation of the kkk, the discrimination of black Americans in the criminal justice system which arguably still prevailed today, we had red lining which still effects black communities till this day, discrimination when it came to housing that was legalized.Segregation was only 60 years ago, there are still
People alive from it. Ruby Nell Bridges, the first black girl to integrate the first school in America is still alive if that puts anything in perspective
*57 years since segregation actually, not 60
I remember listening to an old man talk about this. This and other things but he was talking about how things use to be and such. How everybody else got this or that when they came to America. How the Irish and Italian use to be at the bottom and that's why there were gangs and now those gangs are gone. How once slavery stopped the Irish got the police and the Italians got the fire department I don't know something like that he said. I learned a lot. I don't remember anything anymore. But I remember thinking every time Black people started to do well, White people dragged and push them back down. I mean Martian Luther King said that one thing... uhh "I fear I am integrating my people into a burning house"... Anyway the old man was telling about times before integration... And it sounded like it was going pretty great for Black people in just about every way. Test scores were higher than whites, blacks had their own businesses etc. Then integration happened and all that changed. People started only going to white businesses because they thought it might be better. Black kids were put into racist white schools that consistent told them they were nothing, including the teachers. Anyway it's hard to learn about history that school never taught because you really start to understand that white people in the US nation did some pretty evil things. I remember someone said they use to have n-word barbecues... Like they would cook black people literally at a park on a grill. A lot of stuff school never teaches. It's hard to learn about. Or Black wall-street. Like what happen there is just sad. You know all I think black people really want is for white people to care and admit and know about all the wrong doings. The old man wasn't bias either he seem to dislike Obama and think that segregation should have been longer. Hard to argue when you look at what happened.
@GaGirls i would rather live in a monocultural neighborhood myself
Anything that was done to a person who is still alive should be compensated for, but only out of the pockets of whoever wronged them.
@TheSpaceGnome The US government wronged African Americans.
The US government isn't a specific person or specific people, you can't take it out of taxes, then you are charging innocent people. take it out of the pockets of whoever was actually responsible.
You had no problems naming a living victim, name a living cuplrit who opressed them, then the victim would have the right to go after the culprit, thats how all crimes work.
Also, since you are 15, not elderly, if you yourself were trying to get monetary compensation as a victim, you would need to prove hardship, hardship that would not have occured without (is a direct result of) your parents or grandparents being direct victims themselves. then you could sue the person or people who either enslaved them, or segregated them, etc.
but you can't morally go after non participants/innocent relatives of the guilty/other members of the government/innocent tax payers.
@TheSpaceGnome they aren’t due anything since slavery was legal at the time
@Pterodon I don't think it being legal at the time should matter in this particular situation.
yes it would. Just like someone can’t be prosecuted because of laws being nonexistent. This is why laws change or new ones being introduced
@Pterodon following laws for no other reason than "just because" is one of the worst mentalities to have. A law without moral conviction is pointless.
@TheSpaceGnome tough. That’s the way it is. Slavery was legal then and not just in the USA so they get nothing. You can’t make a new law and punish those that broke the new law before it was law. You can only punish those that broke the new law after it was enacted.
@Pterodon that’s now how it works, we’re talking about reperations and in the context of slavery it was breaking humanitarian rights. It doesn’t matter if it was legal, the Holocaust was legal in Germany and you see they still paid reparations after it happened? That’s a lazy excuse
@TheSpaceGnome again, not how it works. Institutions and governments can be at fault of humanitarian rights violations. It’s not just a group of people, it can definitely be a system. The US government is at fault for never paying African Americans their reparations but than again the us government is a hypocrite and puts other countries to standards it rarely ever meets itself
They were forced to repay because they lost a war. You can’t force us. You’re just a lazy typical liberal that wants to be a freeloader
If you hate America so much officially renounce your citizenship and I’ll personally buy your black ass a one way ticket to Liberia. You wouldn’t last 24 hours in your home continent
Thanks for showing your incompetence to engage in a constructive conversation.I’m not even liberal, I’m far more left wing than that and I’m sorry to disappoint but I’m 0% Liberian.I’m also sorry to disappoint you but I’ve traveled to my parents home country and it’s peaceful. It actually has a significantly lower crime rate than the US 😂 so I’d probably be much safer there.
I’ve also explained several times that I myself am not African American so the reparations I’m advocating for wouldn’t effect me since my ancestors weren’t even present during the trans Atlantic slave trade. But of course in your twisted racist brain, all black people are from Africa and we’re slaves right? It’s clear you lack emotional intellect if you’re getting this angry over me explaining to you the UN’s policy on reparations. I hope you find peace, there’s no way a human can exist with that much hate in their heart ❤️
They’re not getting a fucking thing
Again, when did I ever say they were. I said they should because it’s common Curtesy to pay off the damages to help the victims or the victims families. That’s just how it’s been done so it’s not different
@Pterodon I've already said my 2 cents on the matter, but I just wanted to say it's spelled Pteranodon.
@TheSpaceGnome I know how it’s really spelled. I did it deliberately
No just the black folks here
America pays the bill and most black people do come from slavery
To be honest I don't even want their money - it's probably tainted and they'll never give it out with good intentions
I like your answer
Oh wow gee thanks to them for freeing people that they enslaved
@SmokinAces2000 they didn’t. Why don’t you go after the sellers instead of the buyers
The sellers didn’t keep it going for hundreds of years and beat, rape, and sell the slaves
@SmokinAces2000 yeah but if they hadn’t of sold them in the first place. . . They new what was gonna happen and didn’t care.
A lot of them were selling each other to save their own assess and most of them didn’t know how severe it would be, you are just trying to deflect because you want to keep the false narrative that the US can do no wrong and is the best country in the world
@SmokinAces2000 if you hate it so much then get your ass to Liberia and show up us how to run a country. I don’t owe any N anything. They’re nothing but freeloaders
😂 deflecting again
@SmokinAces2000 nope. I told you we’ve repaid them in deaths so fuck you
Plus they have affirmative action so fuck you again
You didn’t repay shit 😂 and fuck you too 🤣🤣🤣
I answered asker’s question already.
