Since you claim to now know why this happened, let me offer an initial news report on the confrontation. . . because making innunendoes without any reference to facts is quite detrimental and even incendiary.
"[Nashville Metro Police spokesman Don] Aaron said a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer was traveling along the interstate on Thursday afternoon when he noticed [Landon] Eastep sitting on the guardrail.
When the trooper stopped and spoke to Eastep, trying to get him off the highway, the man pulled out a box cutter, Aaron said. An off-duty Mt. Juliet police officer, who was traveling home with his family, saw what was happening and stopped.
The two tried to deescalate the situation for the better part of half an hour, according to Aaron.
“The man was holding a box cutter in his left hand. His right hand was in his pocket,” Aaron said. But as police officers arrived and continued speaking to Eastep, he “suddenly” pulled an unidentified “shiny, silver cylindrical object” out of his right pocket, Aaron said.
Nine officers then shot Eastep, according to Aaron, who added that police have not yet determined what the object was but that it was not a firearm. No Tasers were used before the gunfire, though at least one officer had one on standby, he added.
“Once the shiny cylindrical object was seen, the officers fired. Not knowing what that was, the officers were firing in defense of themselves, not knowing what potential threat could have been in that right hand as it quickly emerged out of his pocket,” said Aaron.
Nashville court records indicate Eastep had an outstanding charge of domestic assault with bodily injury. His next court date was scheduled for April."
Yeah, it shows one of the problem cops are dealing with: they almost always assume the worst. Like assuming hand in pocket is holding a gun and any sudden move would mean shooting at them.
It's mostly due to training. When you have a young cop follow the older one, the old one will pick the worst case to teach the kid to make sure he's not going to fall for tricks and die like an idiot. Except the lessons stick and those happened to be the only lesson he would remember and he would pass those on to the next guy.
@oddwaffle They'e already told the guy a hundred times to put down the box cutter and take his hand out of his pocket, he's already displayed the box cutter in a threatening manner, and you think the cops are supposed to be patient and talk to him until they conform that it is a gun he's pulled out of hs pocket. . . and by that time one or more of them have been shot. Only a lunatic would create such a use of deadly force rule.
If Eastep wanted to live, all he needed to do was to follow their instructions. . . but you think this is the cops' fault? This kind of bizarre thinking is why the 2022 elections will be a landslide for conservatives!
Of course they can't confirm it. But again it's up to their judgement because they are the one facing it. If they feel it's most likely a gun then they should react as if it was a gun.
The thing is, most of the time they assume it is a gun. They are influenced by assuming the worst would happen. Not by their own choosing but by training and "tradition". Then the rot fester.
This is why people don't like cops. They don't trust cops. If you assume the worst about people then people will be the worst they can because they all get the same slot. So it's massively disadvantageous to trust cops. There is no good to help the law when it's against you most of the time.
Then the circle continues. People don't trust the cops. They don't listen. They act funny. They get shot for pulling stuff out of their pocket. Then they hate cops.
@oddwaffle Listen. If a cop stops you and says "Take your hands out of your pockets," he is doing that for his own safety and f he feels safe, then you will be much safer. If you refuse to follow commands and have already threatened someone with a box cutter, and you then make a sudden movement to pull something out of your pocket, of course te cops will assume the worst. Because they hould not take a chance with their own life for someone who has conducted themselves in that fashion up to that point. That's the way it works and 99% of all people will say that is reasonable.
This is why people get shot. Someone thinks it's dangerous. Everyone assume it's the worst when it's not. Better kill them all and let God sort them out.
If you think really carefully you will see it's not normal or even "99%". You have to be objective. The likelihood of a person pulling out a gun and hit anyone isn't that high after he spend hours sitting there.
The the worst thing? They reacted extremely fast. Why? Because they think a guy threatening people with a box cutter has a gun that he didn't use to threaten people with.
If you think the worst of people then they will be the worst. This is the old lesson that has been around forever.
Have you realized how crazy it is? "I gonna threaten people with a box cutter because I have a gun in my pocket".
Yeah, sure it may be a gun. But it could so be a bomb? Didn't call the bomb squad did they? Why? Because it's maybe a gun but not maybe a bomb? Why not? If it was Iraq they would have.
Then again, if it was Japan they wouldn't shoot because it would less likely be a gun. So why? What makes Iraq, Japan and US different? Is it the environment? That US is dangerous and potential warzone? Or is it the training? Make believe that the world is dangerous? That people are evil and crazy? That some dude would use a box cutter to threaten people when he has a gun and spend hours sitting surrounded by police in the open?
@oddwaffle "Have you realized how crazy it is? "I gonna threaten people with a box cutter because I have a gun in my pocket".
You still don't get it? The guy was mentally fucking ill! Why is that so difficult to understand? And the fact that he is mentally ill makes him do irrational things and it doesn't make him any less dangerous.
So he should be shit because he is mentally ill? Are you that evil?
He had a box cutter and not normal so what? So we gonna shoot him dead because he is insane? Maybe we should kill them all because they might get a gun hidden somewhere and be dangerous?
Are we that fearful? That much of a coward who rather kill first and ask question later? So which part was I wrong when people just kill them all and let God sort them out later?
@oddwaffle You are absolutely right, according to your own logic, which obviously relies on ignoring the stated facts to reach the desired conclusion. If you waant to believe that all cops are shit, you can construct an argument that is convincing to you, and I will stop trying to respond. This kind of thinking is EXACTLY why Republicans wll win in landslide victories in the November election.

You beat me to it. How can any one justify an escalation that goes from offering a guy a ride home to shooting him dead in the streets.
Nashville officer in shooting loses police power amid review
Nashville’s police chief has stripped an officer of his policing authority after he fired the final two shots to end a fatal highway standoff in which nine officers opened fire on a man holding a box cutter.
Authorities had pleaded during the traffic-stopping encounter with Landon Eastep to surrender Thursday while they kept their guns drawn, but fatally shot him when he pulled another shiny object from his pocket and pointed it at police as if ready to shoot. That object turned out not to be a gun.
At this point, you point a shiny pencil at them and they will shoot you, then later tell the media they couldn't tell if it was actual pencil or gun. Same ole story with these fools everytime.
One voluntary or involuntarily move and you can go to a early grave with such idiots like these with a loaded gun on them inching to use it.

The solution is to take away police guns so theyre not so reliant on them. Shooting someone should the last option and used when life is in danger, not the first because your doughnuts getting cold
It is the last option. My dad was a cop 30 years and never shot anyone. You're all just brainwashed by liberal politics on that TikTok or Fox News or whatever it is you do.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply 'Fox News' was liberal. I mispoke. Regardless, my daddy pulled a gun on one person his whole career when a woman was running at him with a knife. And he worked during civil rights. You would probably rather get shot than fight him, but still. Give me a damn break.
So American police officer who came face to face with harden criminals daily never shot anyone but most American civilians think its unsafe to leave their homes without a gun
You can't win an argument by changing the subject. My point is that he carried it to protect his life, not because he was lazy or stupid. The criminals are the ones who are too lazy or stupid to find real jobs or stop listening to rap music long enough to actually learn something. Many police have wives and children who would like to see them at the end of their work shift. People should keep that in mind next time they decide they want to act out the aggression they learned about in a rap song or peer pressure. These are real people out there, really just making a living, so once you get caught you're caught ok, just call it a day and admit that you did something wrong. They'll take care of you in jail.
Ok take away gun from the cops I’ll then go rob a bank and get away with millions of dollars when the cops come and ask me to surrender without guns I’ll say see ya guys and move on with my day and there will be nothing they can do.
Or how about this a 16 year old black girl almost stabs another 16 year old black girl and right in the nick of time a cop shows up and shoots the 16 year old knife wheeling black girl who is seconds away from stabbing her friend to death. Oh wait the cop doesn’t have a gun anymore so the 16 year old black girl stabs and kills the other 16 year old black girl now we have an innocent black girl stabbed to death rather then a non-innocent black girl who is trying to stab people with a knife. See what happens when you take guns away from cops people die, what are we gonna take all cooking knives away from people all baseball bat and hammers all rocks and blunt objects? Anything that could be used as a weapon no more pillow cases because you could put rocks in there to beat someone to death. Cops have guns for a reason take them away more people will die

I don't know anything about it. Did he draw a knife or gun and charge or point it at them? Then he deserves it. Maybe if he had no weapon and wasn't claiming he had a weapon they can get close enough to tase and not risk harm by getting close enough for him to pull a weapon on them.
I don't know anything about this situation.

Well... if you can get away with shooting the guy and avoiding paperwork, why not?
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy I'll be waiting for the protests from all the people from "All Lives Matter". If they happened (they won't), they'd be supported by a lot of the same people who supported BLM.
