It's alluding to the fact that girls are usually weaker. It's true, but the need to make it into an insult just never made sense to me. We worship physical prowess, especially when it comes to athletic activities, when there's really no shame in physical delicateness.
no one is naturally 'delicate' unless they are ill.
@VIVANT Delicate means fine limbed or of graceful build.
and many women are stocky and many men are slight. graceful fine limbed is not 'delicate'.. dancers and marathon runners and martial artists gymnasts often fall into this category. can mean very fast or powerful dancer. does not have anything to do with weakness or delicacy or not being able to throw.
@VIVANT I feel like you are taking offense to this. We can argue over the definition, but fact is, women are physically weaker than men, even if they are stocky. Where you're right is that fine limbed and graceful people are often very powerful athletes. You don't have to be stocky to be that.
Because if you were to pull 100 men off the streets, completely randomly, only one would throw worse than the average female. Statistically it a legitimate insult meaning that you’re in the 1% worse “throwers” in a group of your peers.
It is because of the stereotypical notion that girls don't throw very well, the classic image being or a girl throwing with limp wrist and weak force resulting in the projectile travelling about two feet and flopping to the ground.
Well, a lot of girls can throw pretty well now, but girls used to not play sports or be “strong” that was “reserved for the men”. Obv that’s way different now
Guys are stronger than girls so when people day that they're saying their throw was bad, weak, not far because girls are weaker / less strong than guys and throw less far than guys.
It's an insult, because the female stereotype can't perform sports. So, it mocks weaker men by saying they're feminine.
Stereotype. Females are viewed to be weaker than men so when someone says you throw like a girl it's meant to insult you by saying you're weak.
I don't know.. the other day my 84 year old grandma yelled it at my 49 year old dad because he was playing a game with my younger brother. And she meant it 😂
If they're referring to me as a point of reference in girl, its an insult.
yea I don't agree with that saying. many girls throw hella hard.
Because we dont throw as well as men typically.
you speak as if there is one way women throw and one way men throw. there is not.
@VIVANT Yes, its called men throw harder, faster and stronger.Women throw softer, slower and weaker.
An outdated sexist termI had seen girls who throw better than guys
Clueless boys say that.
because you have weak armgame, son
because they're sexist
i guess it's a stereotype
means better than boy of course
It's true for me. I can't throw far
You play ball like a girl!! ➖ Ham Porter
I haven't heard that expression used since 2010.
to degrade women.
