Rhonda Rousey. Pretty sure she's the most overrated of all time, ever, in any sport. Not the most famous, mind you.Mike Tyson is the most famously overrated sportsperson ever. Never beat a top professional, beat an endless horde of scrubs and tramps, got beaten by Buster Douglas in his PRIME. And got taken apart by anyone genuinely brilliant.Still a good boxer, but nowhere NEAR what people think of him. Tyson vs Ali? Come the fuck on son, get real 😐. Genuine question people have posed, and the main draw of Ea sports Fight Night game. Lennox Lewis wasn't anywhere on Ali's level, and he made a joke of Tyson. Holyfield wasn't even a heavyweight for goodness sake... and you look at what big George Foreman did in his later years. Yet Tyson got beaten SOLIDLY by 2 utter shit boxers, Williams and McBride. Greatness won't disappear completely, Foreman proved thatVery hard to find a single individual outside of boxing who's as famous and overrated, teams drop overrated people, and golf and tennis and things are fairly boring and ignored by people
carmelo,he's good, but he ain't all that and never was ronda rousey,a real champion doesn't quit the sport after getting beat. a real champion would go back out there and take back what is rightfully hers. besides, she wasn't even that good to begin with. if you kept a fight on the feet she was terrible which is why she needed to go to the ground to wintom bradyput him on any other team and he's not nearly as good. brady is a system quarterback made better by the fact that he plays for one of the greatest coaches of all time in bill belicheck. put him with anyone else and he is not that good
I disagree with Brady. He's by far the goat (I'm a SF 49er fan so I'm acknowledging him passing Montana). Belichick didn't have success coaching before Brady (he was fired in Cleveland). Brady is the one consistent player on a team that wins 12+ games every year while always winning their division, not to mention his record amount of Super Bowl wins. He does it with a "hodgepodge" of players. He does it with his whole receiving corps injured.
okay, lets just be real for a second... Nobody wins in Cleveland XDyou can't deny all the help he gets from referees though. any team that plays them is also playing the refs plus you're acting like his recievers are terrible even though julian edelman is a pro bowler and he's also got gronk and danny amendola. his offensive line is really good to and always in the top 10 of sacks allowed. plus you can tell how great of a coach belicheck is because of jimmy garoppolo and jacbobey brisset who both had success on the team and now play for other teams. the system belicheck runs is very quarterback friendly and works for a pocket passer like brady. put any decent qb in the system and they become god level players. take brady and put him in jacksonville or green bay and he doesn't make it pass the early 2000's.
Brady is the GOAT. period. And while Bilechick deserves kudos for being great, Every great team athlete has had a great coach but not all of those athletes have amassed the records and longevity of Mr Tom Brady.
they also dont cheat as much or have rules like the tuck rule made up for them to succeed like he does
The Browns have won championships before! I have little doubt that if Brady was the quarterback in Cleveland, that he wouldn't have won multiple championships. Belichick never won without Brady though so we can't know what would have happened without him. I agree Belichick is a great coach though. He had nice receivers but I believe he can make any receiver look nice. Look at in the Super Bowlast year, he didn't have Gronk and his other number one receiver and had great numbers with basically nobody. I saw the same thing happened last year with my 49ers. We were like 1 and 8. Somehow our receivers were "bad." Once Garoppolo started playing though, we won like 6 games in a row and somehow we have good receivers now! Brady makes people good! They literally pull guys off of job selling cars and make them players.
I'm sorry but you're delusional lol. It's too much work to go through what you're saying. For example, the Patriots usually have a good offensive line. Well yeah if you have a good quarterback you're going to want to invest in an offensive line of course. But, the low sack totals are likely also due to Brady play calling and his ability at short passes. He's pretty hard to sack.
bruh the last time the browns won anything was in '64 and that team fucked off in the 90s and became the ravens XD. these new browns are the most laughable franchise in all of major professional sports (not to mention the fact that they have the ugliest uniforms I've ever seen)so we can throw that argument out the window. the reason belicheck was even fired from cleveland was the move to baltimore. he never coached these cleveland browns he coached the first browns. when he was with those browns he amassed a modest 36-44 record and a playoff appearance which, for a newbie to the hc position, is pretty good. as for jimmy g, like i said, being in a bill belichick offense for 3 years is what made him into the player he is today.im definitley not saying brady ain't a good player, im saying he ain't all that and wouldn't be had he not been with belichick
Mesut Ozil is a good candidate; I think there was an American football coach called Vince Lombardi who said 'the only time win comes before work is in the dictionary'. Ozil doesn't just not subscribe to this maxim, he's paid in excess of £300K a week to do it...
I would say Michael Jordon is over paid. I don't deny he was extremely talented and worked very hard to succeed but who wants to pay OVER $500 dollars for a pair of shoes? If he charged $300 - I would accept him as legit.
Steffi Graf and Serena Williams, both now often touted as the two best ever in the game. Not that they weren't/aren't briliant, but the competition both played against was so poor for so long. Compare that to Navratilova and Evert who won 18 singles majors EACH playing at the same time- the two of them met EIGHTY times in their professional careers.
Lance Armstrong, Just watch the Docs, the guy is a pretty terrible person in them, it is kind of sad, it has a bill cosby effect for me
If you want to count money in this equation, whoever is getting paid the most in baseball or soccer right now, THAT's your man!
Derek Jeter, he's regarded as one of the best players of all time and given a ton of credit for the Yankees success, they wrote the championships in his name, when it was the team that won it, not him. His stats are definitely good as far as his average, but he can't hit a home run to save his life, making him less fun to watch, and he was given the golden glove many times when he did nothing more than a mediocre job most of the time.
I've had full season tickets for the New York Yankees since 1998 and I've watched every playoff game and World Series game that was played in person from 1998 until now. Derek Jeter is revered because of his intangibles and his ability to raise his level of play in the postseason. The more the game mattered, the better he played. He constantly and consistently and continuously outplayed many, many, many players in the postseason and World Series that had more natural born talent than he did.
Jeter didn't have big home run numbers because he played the game the right way and didn't Juice. 3000+ hits in a Career do not lie.
@Logorithim Also, the only right-handed hitter to have more career hits than Derek Jeter (3,465) was Hank Aaron (3,771). All the other all-time career hit leaders ahead of Jeter were left-handed (Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Tris Speaker). Pete Rose was a switch hitter. The reason this is important is because at any given time in baseball, at least 3 out of every 4 pitchers is right-handed. That means it's more difficult for right-handed hitters to climb the all-time hit list.
Excellent point, and I would add to it that the old Yankee Stadium was favorable to left-handed batters.
@Logorithim Yes for sure. It was 495 feet to dead center field when Yankee Stadium first opened in 1923. When the bleachers and upper deck expansions were completed in 1937, from left foul pole to right foul pole, the outfield dimensions (until the late 1960s) were 281 feet, 402 feet, 461 feet, 457 feet, 407 feet, 353 feet, 296 feet. Can you imagine how many hits and home runs Joe DiMaggio lost being right-handed in that ballpark?
I've seen his stats, am I saying that he's bad? No, what I am saying is that he's given too much credit for the Yankess success during his time. People often look at him as the only reason for their success, when in reality, it was the team that got it done 5 times as a whole. He did his part, but so did his teammates, yet they were given no credit whatsoever for their performances.
Anyone who doesn't give his teammates the credit they deserve weren't there in person during those dynasty years.
This question is an oxymoron. Every great athlete has had his/her failures. I just can't criticize an all time great like Alex Rodriguez for not performing better for the Yankees in the playoffs. Although Gabriella Sabatini was certainly the biggest choke artiest that women's tennis has ever seen.
Bob Griese of the Miami Dolphins. He had a great team around him and that's part of it. But in terms of athletic ability, he was good but not great in my opinion.
Are we counting Pro Wrestling? Because if so John Cena
Wrestling is dependent on hype to even exist. You can't count wrestling because it hypes EVERYONE, ALL THE TIME. It's not a sport.Cena is warmed dogshit though, agree 100%
That Egyptian soccer player Mohammed Salah sooo over rated
Easy.Babe Ruth. The most glorified runner-up in sports.Because of racism, Hank Aaron was suppressed in sports history and Babe Ruth was highly overinflated.
Have you ever even been on MLB. com and actually looked at Babe Ruth's hitting AND pitching numbers?
You must be a Boston Fan..
@legalboxers Not me.
@Prof_Don I also don't understand the "runner-up" comment. Babe Ruth was 7-3 in the TEN World Series that he played. Hank Aaron is 1-1 in the TWO World Series that he played. Babe Ruth also PITCHED in 3 World Series games for the Red Sox (one in 1916, two in 1918). He was 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA. Out of Ruth's 2,873 hits, 714 were home runs (that means 1 out of every 4 of his hits were home runs). Out of Aaron's 3,771 hits, 755 were home runs (that's 1 out of every 5 hits). Aaron had basically 900 more hits, but only 41 more home runs (which is still impressive, because he was right-handed and at least 3 out of every 4 pitchers is right-handed). Ruth's career OPS is 1.164. Aaron's career OPS is.928. If you was to say Aaron faced racism throughout his career, that's factual. However, to say Ruth's career numbers are "highly overinflated, is absurd. One has nothing to do with the other and is not statistically accurate.
Babe was like a better pitcher than Kershaw while being still being a better hitter than Aaron.
Tiger Woodsfull of himself... and he had a gorgeous wife, then threw her away
David Beckham, Matt Leinart, John Daly, Carmelo Anthony, Kenny Anderson, Landon Donovan
Melo? Lol. Are you watching basketball or you just heard from someone that Melo is overrated? 24 PPG for his carrer overrated this is a joke. He never averaged less then 20 poins except his last season. You are typical Melo hater, hates him but if he is im your team then you would say we have all-star in our team in Carmelo Anthony.
His non-existent defense makes him overrated (as did his shot selection this past Season). "Overrated" doesn't mean he is a bad player, just not as good as his All-Star rep.
Brett Favre, Danica Patrick, David Beckham, Dwight Howard
@RangersHe's a great player, just a bit overrated maybe. Mainly because of his interceptions. I mean like I would take Aaron Rodgers over Brett Favre. Would you?
Lionel Messi because Ronaldo has achieved more on different platforms
Messi ain't overrated. He's a fucking god.
Ronaldo has achieved more? Hm. Okay. Which team in Spain did the clean sweep? Who won everything available? BarcaWhich player has scored the most in a calendar year? MessiWhich player has made the most goals for himself, from non goalscoring positions? MessiAnd look at their scoring records. And remember Messi always has 2 more years to score than Ronaldo. Messi is younger than himDon't vote with your pussy, Messi is infinitely better than Ronaldo, Cristiano has done nothing like as much as Messi in his career.
Pff I would put Ronaldinio over both of them in a heart beat!
Messi ain't overrated. I don't care if you're a Ronaldo fan, but no one can ever say Messi's overrated. Ronaldo ain't overrated either.
Ronaldinho is the Chosen One of football. Magician? More like a fucking Jedi
Messi is amazing but Ronaldo has achieved in England Portugal and Spain as well as international football with Portugal
With all due respect but Messi doesn't have to prove himself against teams like Sunderland, Newcastle United and such when his track record basically consists of humiliating the best teams in the world
I agree Ronaldinho is on top of everyone.
Messi has humiliated Real Madrid, scoring more against them than any player in history. Sorry, but no other team, even international team, has the history and success of shitbag Madrid. And Ronaldo has passed literally half as much as Messi, scored 100 goals less, has basically half the assists, (150 compared to 85 or so). Messi is 7% more accurate at shooting, 9% more accurate passing. . . . the stats are there to back up the argument. Ronaldo doesn't beat Messi in ANY category, when they match up.And winning the poxy Euros is a bullshit achievement. Portugal have a far more balanced team than Argentina, they made the final in 04 as well, it's not like Argentina who can barely scrape a defence together and leak goals like a rusty old boat.
@Rodgerinho I don't know S about those two really. I've seen 90% of people on here seem to support Ronaldo but by the statistics you gave Messi seems better. I don't see how the "success on many teams really matters." Like if you know American basketball, it wouldn't make sense to penalize Michael Jordan for only playing on one team. "But LeBron won championships in Cleveland and Miami" doesn't mean much to me.Either way I bet they're both great so there's no reason to put one down like I've noticed the people against Messi seem to do.
Mate honestly, check Messi vs Getafe, or just type in Messi halfway line dribble goal. Literally dribbled through the whole team and scored, like something out of a comic book! And that was only round 1. . . . there's another time he did the EXACT same thing. Ronaldo has never in his life done that, and it is on merit the hardest goal to score. You know why Ronaldo is preferred? He speaks English, and even though he fucks dudes, women find his posing ass attractive. Murad Haddad was his guyfriend, all boner'ed up by the pool in pics with him. He's a great player, but unless he tingles your pump gear, you can't say he's better than Messi.
For me the number 1 stat is goals created for himself. That's like, marked by 2-3 players, back to goal, gets a pass 40 yards out - then does something to break the moment and suddenly he's through on goal and he scores. Again, Ronaldo doesn't do that, but at his height Messi ranged from 16-30-something % of his overall goal tally being self-made! Think of that. He could play, with ANYONE. Even you and me, vs the best defenders in the world. He'd still score. We'd still have a shot at winning. FC Random Dudes and Fans vs Real Madrid, and we get the win because of Messi. Insane statistic, so much so that Time magazine did an article on it, that's where I read about it.
The scary thing? I'm a Man United guy. I LIKE Ronaldo as a player, he was OUR guy! But I'm not going to tell you Ronaldo's better than Messi, I'm looking at the evidence, which is overwhelming. 2 years younger than Ronaldo. Lionel has more time left to grace us with, long may it last and he WILL go down as the greatest in history, no doubt.
@RodgerinhoAh interesting. I feel the same way about being real about whoever is better even if the guy play for my local team. I don't doubt some girls think he's better because of the pussy lol, and liking someone more because they speak English sounds almost like some racist shit lol
@cavmanier Yeah I have to agree, Messi is an all around better player, he sets other players up better, he handles the ball better in traffic, and I think he sees the whole entire field more clearly.
Bullshit move from Barcelona and do something or achieve with Argentina granted Ronaldo is less likeable but he's achieved more in the profession
Well it's not racist, I don't think. It's just, you can get to know Ronnie better, he's more accessible than Messi, for more people, and you can "get to know" him. That's a bullshit fallacy but the illusion is there for those who want it. He's more attractive than Messi, so yeah, more attention. But as mentioned, Messi just does so much more
Britpop Was Raul a useless player? Casillas? Scholes? Giggs? Gerrard? Xavi? Iniesta? A one club man isn't as good? ? ! ? Get fucked on that, greatness isn't defined by travel proclivity, if it was then Anelka and Balotelli would be the best that ever played. As I already mentioned, Messi makes more goals for himself than anyone in the history of the game. It's so remarkable, scientists analysed it as a pinnacle of human sports. Ronaldo just hasn't ever been that player, he's a flat track bully who overpowers defences and scores goals, LOTS of goals and in different ways, but still he's dependent on his team and he's far less of a dribbler. Lio scores more consistently and with more ease, he's just far more naturally talented.Liking Ronnie is fine. He's far more liked than Messi, by the average and general populace. I like him too, he's a United legend. Just he's not as good a player as Messi, I see no point in pretending otherwise, the evidence is literally overwhelming.
Interesting. The only argument I hear for Reynaldo is he's won on more teams I guess? It's such a team sport though that I'm not sure how much that matters. The best player in our game baseball right now by far is Mike Trout. He's basically Willie Mays. He can do everything in the game, yet he's never even made the real playoffs (minus a one-game elimination playoff) because of his team.
Exactly, more teams, that's it. He's won a single International trophy and Messi hasn't, but that's like your neighbour won at bingo and you didn't, internationals mean so little, it's just luck. He's scored in every game, or maybe just group game, of the Champions League. That's his record but so what? Messi could still do that, it's only 6 games then 7 more games. Messi has scored in every game in his full league before, that's 38 games.Ronaldo makes more sponsorship money. And he scores in the air, he scores headers, good jump. His team have won the Champions League 3 times, but it's a team sport and their manager was MR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. He was the most important factor in winning those trophies. Besides, winning through the season is most important and Messi has 8 (maybe 9 now actually) league wins where Ronaldo has 2.Grahhh... it's just SOOO obvious, it's not even a debate!
Well actually Ronaldo won 3 league titles at United so that's 5 titles all together and he's won 5 champions league titles, not 3. He won 1 at United and 4 at Madrid...
And also playing in the premier league does matter since it's the hardest league in the entire world to play in. Ronaldo's proven himself in the hardest league there is. The way I feel about the Messi Ronaldo debate is they are 2 of the greatest players in history and instead of arguong who's better, we should be enjoying the football they offer us. We don't know how lucky we are. Their time playing football at their best level is almost over. It's stupid to argue who's better. Just enjoy their football.
3 on the bounce. That's his main achievement with Madrid, figured fans would catch that, obvious enough he won titles and the CL at United. He won 3 leagues back to back with us, not easy, but Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney too so. . . .
Premier League isn't the hardest league in the world. It's just the most physical, but the defending isn't intelligent or tactical, it's lump and boot. He had more kicks here, doesn't make it a harder league, La Liga is a fair bit ahead of the Prem. Judge it by results and the CL will bear that fact out.Nobody would get close to Messi to kick him. If United and Chelsea couldn't kick Barca off the park, MANY TIMES, what chance to cunting Burnley have? ? ?
I agree it's stupid to argue. When the facts are so one-sided and glaringly obvious, that is pretty stupid to argue about. As to which one people prefer or who looks better, off the pitch or on it doing what they do best, knock yourself out, whatever you prefer yourself, the aesthetic of Ronaldo vs Messi really isn't in my wheelhouse, that part is completely subjective.
Don't tell me to get fucked if you disagree that's fine but construct an argument just look at Messi spitting his dummy out every time he fails with Argentina
I did construct an argument. You didn't answer. Xavi. Shit player? Go answer what was said.As for spitting the dummy. . . . jesus, we're talking about RONALDO here. He cries and throws a tantrum at the SMALLEST thing. He even got pissy when Benzema had the audacity to finish from 6 yards rather than let the ball roll to him, standing posing and pouting for the camera unhappy he didn't get ALL the praise possible. He's a brat. He also holds the dishonour of being the player to receive the Pussy Bitch Red card. Yellow for diving, yellow for taking his shirt off. They both have flaws. We tolerate that. Ronaldo has MORE flaws, I watched and ignored them for long enough. This isn't about personality. Only quality on the pitch. Messi stands taller there.
Bloody hell. Are you guys still arguing over this?
@RonThirdWheelWeasley LMAO soccer brings so much passion
Exactly 😊. Biggest sport in the world
Yeah, if you love the sport so much, maybe you can start calling it by it's actual name. It's Football, not Soccer
@RonThirdWheelWeasley I'm in North America, so I don't want to confuse others... ;)
If they think it's called Soccer, then they're already confused mate...
@RonThirdWheelWeasley Well, there is another sport they have deemed "Football" here, which makes me laugh sometimes since you barely use your feet with the ball in this game.
You mean handegg? It's closer to Rugby than it is to Football, so I don't know why they decided to call it Football and not Rugby...
@RonThirdWheelWeasley Because it's how great the American mind is... ;) "I touched it with my foot, it must be a foot ball..." ;)
Rugby is rugby football. So to distinguish from rugby football, they just called it football. Look it's a whole thing, fuck British colonies, that's all it is really. I can get behind that. I just call it NFL personally, or American football. But still. What we love is football. Not soccer. More than half the world, like 3-4 billion people, agree. So if it ever came down to it. . . .
@Rodgerinho Yeah, well it's a lot more playable for the world than American Football to an extent and is possibly more skillful to an extent. That being said I love both sports actually.
Definitely more skillful, definitely more accessible to people. Just throw a football out and 1-22 people are going to have great fun. NFL... man so many pads and it has to be on grass so you need boots and there's basically 4 teams needed and just... yeah. Not for everyone. A little guy can play football. And you look at Ronaldinho dribbling, flicking the ball, pulling out elasticos and hocus pocus and sombrero flicks, nah no question, maybe NFL gets to a great pinnacle height in technique, definitely a more athletic and powerful sport, but football has the individual magic, nothing comes close. Maybe tennis or basketball, but I can't think of anything so skillful that's also so physically intense.
@Rodgerinho HOLY SHIT! You guys are still on about this? It's been 7 days now!!!
Um. . . . we stopped talking about it 4 days ago. . . . and YOU and I were the last ones to talk about it. . . . are you feeling okay dude? Headaches, dizziness, overall feeling of retardedness?
@Rodgerinho Oh. I just went back through the list again and you're right my bad. I was looking at the days by the first post I think. LOL um a little bored and maybe could use a good drink of Whiskey, but either than that, I'm fine.
maybe he is iker cassilias. I have never really thought as a world-class keeper (even in his prime time) buffon is a legend.
All of em because its just a game
Hamilton, he dont do anything by id own. He steals other ideas
Easily, Anna Kournikova.
"MOST overrated sportsperson OF ALL TIME" and people say Messi smh
Anyone who's known for running
Kobe Bryant, Ryan Leaf, Bo Jackson
Um Bo Jackson played 2 professional sports at the same time practically... So...
Yes he failed at 2 sports at the same time. Did he make the hall of fame in either? Because when he played he was rated as one of the best.
But he still played them at a high level somewhat successfully until his major injury. Also, who knows how great he would have been if it weren't for the injury? Really you can't put him on the list. He's a tremendous athlete.
As of right now. Lebron James
My bitch Serena Williams.
You're an idiot if you think Serena Williams is overrated...
I don’t think she’s overrated. I thought the question was a professional sports person who’s underrated. Oops.
Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady.
My husband , he is best in sex games
All of them are overrated
Seriously, you wany to tell me that the guy who is 24 PPG throughout his carrer overrated? He averaged over 20 PPG every season of his carrer except last with OKC because he played with ballhog Russ and PG13 as well. He is not overrated he just doesn't care about the game of basketball, he is only playing it because of the money which is the reason why he never got deep in the playoffs except once when he got in WCF.
@LiLOwL: Dude is selfish and doesn't play defense at all.
James Harden is MVP who doesn't play defense as well. Also Melo is 33 something like that, he is older and slower like LeBron who is not playing D anymore except in the playoffs when he has to do it.Only thing he has to work on is how he looks. He needs to get in the better shape so he can be in the league as long as possible and I believe he can still put up around 20 points if he is im the right system.
@LiLOwL: Harden is also overrated for the same reason. Melo has never played defense.
@LiLOwL Melo was extremely overrated especially in his prime, but he hasn't been seen as a top 5-10 player the last 5 years so he gets a pass. I would say his current Point gaurd is the most overrated athlete. CP3 is sometimes put in the discussion with the original Isaiah Thomas as the best little gaurd ever (Steph Curry is closer to 6"3 so he isn't in the little gaurd category). CP3 doesn't deserve to be in the same sentence as Thomas and the Bad Boy's.
CP3 overrated? Well I don't about that. That may be the case but only thing that I know is that Hornest CP3 was a bad brother. He was balling even Clippers CP3 was solid. In my opinion one of the most consistent players in the league and a pure PG.
@LiLOwL Historically speaking some some stat guys argue he is as good as Zeke cause the analytics use stats primarily. The best he has done carrying the team was against the Spurs in the year he arguably was the real MVP over Kobe. Zeke won 2 rings as the best player on the team. CP3 is really good, but when i hear him compared to Zeke it just isn't in the same league.
Not even close to overrated, ofc he isn't CR7 but he is way above any other player for now
aww 1 downrate..
